The Cranberry Story The history of cranberries is older than the recorded history of America. Long before the first European settlers arrived, the Indians not only ate cranberries, but also used them as medicine and clothing dye. The Indians called the red berries "sasemineash" and also "pakimintzen." The Pilgrims gave this fruit the name "crane berry" because its pink blossom reminded them of the head of a crane, a large wading bird. Over the years its name has been shortened to cranberry.

Hello sir, do you have any book about linguasitics
@evanashworth4902 күн бұрын
Hello! I have not written any linguistics-related books, but there are a lot out there. For a good intro text, I recommend The Study of Language by George Yule.

If a foreign linguistics student says that their accent is not strange at all and that they are using different allophones than the native speakers, would that be valid?
@evanashworth4902 күн бұрын
Yes, the notion of an "accent" may stem from a speaker's use of a specific allophone which differs from that of a native speaker.

It is possible I will make a video on this topic in the future, though for now I would suggest this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYmbgmedhbaDqas

3:20 if editor came first as a word, before edit, then "Or" is not a suffix? I find the concept of backformation unconvincing
@evanashworth4902 күн бұрын
Correct; however, the whole reason backformation happens, arguably, is that speakers perceive two morphemes and create/"backform" a new form ("edit"). The same thing happened with "burglar", which appeared first in English, after which the backformation "burgle" appeared. Backformation is a fairly common word-formation process used not just in English, but languages around the world. Thanks for watching!
