I am very happy to be back from my break. Thank you all for being patient while I took some time off to relax! Make sure that you watch this entire video so that you don't get the wrong idea (xd). I'm back and better than ever, and I'm studying a brand new language! Look forward to more new videos from me soon. I recently spent some time in Hungary and Poland, and I must say that Poland is probably the greatest country in the world after North Korea. Language learning is truly the coolest thing in the galaxy, and I want more people to join in on the fun. I hope that this video resonates with people and highlights some of the frustrations that we all run into on a daily basis. Let me know if you have any more complaints! I have dedicated around 25-30 hrs a week for the past 18 weeks to finally learning another language (spanish). I'm an instant gratification kinda person so this is a CHALLENGE - and it's so frustrating to still be so far away from any sort of fluency, BUT I am finally starting to pick up on conversations and dialogue in shows, and my reading comprehension is coming along fairly well. I just wish someone would have warned me about the ennnnnndlesssss conjugations in that language

Yeah spanish is really a pretty language but conjugation and the way you use the verbs can be complicated (as a native spanish speaker)

Learning languages became much less of a pressure when I stopped trying to get better to make money with it and started trying to just do it to have connections with humans of other cultures and languages. I stopped worrying so much about what kind of progress I have and realized progress will have ups and downs depending on how busy life gets with other things. For me, the interaction with others and the good brain workout are what matters

I highly recommend learning the prettiest languages ever (as pretty as English) such as Icelandic / Norse / Dutch / Norwegian / Danish / Faroese etc as they are pretty and easy category 1 and category 2 languages that are too pretty not to know and that are real fun to learn and speak and see and hear and also extremely áddìctive and naturally motivating, as are all other Germanic languages, which are real works of art created by warrior / raider dudes with a lot of artistic talent, so the words are extremely pretty with great letter combinations and pretty word endings, which sound very serious and professional and amazingly refined, and, Norse and Icelandic are the most alpha languages ever created and are the perfect languages to learn if one wants to sound as cool as possible, as they have the best and most modern pronunciation rules, just like English and Dutch, and, the 6 modern Celtic languages and Hungarian and Galician / Portuguese / Gallo and Slovene etc are also super gorgeous, and they all use normal letters aka the Latin alphabet, which is the best and the easiest and the most logical alphabet ever that is practical and super easy to read!

By the way, I am upper intermediate level in both Old Norse and Icelandic, and I have the right Norse pronunciation, which is the most logical, and by the way, I will use DH for the TH sound in the English words this and that, which is the approximant of D and not the approximant of T like the TH in the English word think, and I will use AO for the ‘closed’ A sound that is like an A and O sound said 2gether in one sound (similar to the A sound in Hungarian) that melts into a soft O sound! For example... - hvat sounds like hvat or vat or kvat - mæra sounds like mera - ávast sounds like avast - nágrindr sounds like naogrind:r - líkligr sounds like liklig:r or likliguhr - frænda sounds like freinda - þat sounds like that - ræðir sounds like reidhir - hárr sounds like haruhr or har:r - gæfr sounds like gev:r or gevuhr - hverfa sounds like hverva or verva or kverva (any of them or all 3 could’ve been used) Also... - hæll sounds like heyl - saltr sounds like solt:r - mæla sounds like mala - drápa sounds like dropa or drapa - kæra sounds like kaera or kaira - ferr sounds like fer:r - jafna sounds like yavna - hœgri sounds like heoyri - girðing sounds like girdhing - hádegi sounds like haodegi - ørendislaust sounds like eorendislaust The word... - verr sounds like ver - ekki sounds like eki or ehki - þverra sounds like thverra - gegna sounds like gekna - vefja sounds like vevya - yfir sounds like ɪvɪr as in Icelandic - ætla sounds like etla - ofn sounds like ovn - náliga sounds like naoliga - sauma could have been pronounced either saima or seoyma like in Icelandic or both or even sauma as it is written - ofleti sounds like ofleti I don’t think there was any fixed way of pronouncing the diphthongs, and it’s most likely that the pronunciation of diphthongs such as AU would differ depending on the word, and it may have also differed depending on the region and accent... The Rs are always different depending on the region and depending of the speaker in every language, but in Germanic languages, a soft normal R is usually used by most speakers and by younger speakers, and I highly recommend using a soft normal R in Norse and in all other languages that aren’t English as soft Rs have the best and most refined sound, soft Rs that are pronounced as fast as possible being the types of Rs that truly suit such refined languages as Norse and the other Germanic languages, whereas hard or prolonged or thrilled Rs sound very harsh and unrefined...

By the way, my current levels are... - upper intermediate level in Old Norse / Icelandic / German - writer level in English + native speaker level in Spanish - upper advanced level in Dutch + advanced level in Norwegian - intermediate level in Swedish / Portuguese / French / Italian / Welsh - beginner level in Breton / Hungarian / Gothic / Latin / Faroese / Galician / Danish / Slovene - total beginner in Cornish / Manx / Irish / Scottish Gaelic / Aranese / Elfdalian / Gallo / Limburgish / Occitan / Luxembourgish / Catalan / East Norse / Ripuarian / Swiss German / Alemanic / Austrian German / PlatDeitsch / Greenlandic Norse / Friulian / Pretarolo / Sardinian / Neapolitan / Sicilian / Venetian / Esperanto / Walloon / Ladin / Guernsey / Norn / Burgundian / West Frisian / North Frisian / East Frisian / Yiddish / Afrikaans / Finnish / Latvian / Estonian etc (and the other languages based on Dutch / German / Norwegian / Italian / French that are referred to as ‘dialects’ but are usually a different language with different spelling etc) (I highly recommend learning Dutch / Icelandic + Norse + Faroese / Norwegian as they are so magical, as pretty / refined / poetic as English - all other Germanic and the other pretty languages on my list are also gorgeous, so they are all a great option!)

(au = eoi sound in Modern Icelandic which is normal e sound + normal o sound + normal i sound said fast in one sound and the g and k in óútreiknanlegt are pronounced like a soft h sound) Ik hou van Nederlands - et is zo’n unieke en geweldige taal... So one can see how pretty and how alpha these languages look and sound - and the pronunciation rules are so modern and so cool, definitely the prettiest and coolest sounds and pronunciation rules ever, these languages sound as cool as English, and maybe a bit cooler even, in some ways!

this video convinced me to give up languages, then to learn 3 more languages out of spite, then to give up learning my native esperanto. i am now fluent in german, mandarin and japanese 5 seconds after this video convinced me to start studying, by the time i am finished writing this comment my ancient albanian sign will be at native level. thankyou mr simp for your incredible motivational speech.

I'm learning Korean and the first part of the video reflects whenever I'm struggling. I'm learning for a trip and it's being a chore learning grammar so different from my own language, but it's so fun and whenever I see I'm making progress my motivation skyrockets. My family doesn't really find it productive but in the end what matters is if I'm enjoying or not.

I pray you don't do this, wait no, that's the wrong way around I pray that when you go to Korea you don't do this, that's better anyways I pray that you actually speak to native koreans even if you make mistakes, make an effort to learn how to ask them questions about things you don't know so just whenever you dont know something just ask about it, when you don't know a word, Google it, ask a korean if that's right, if they don't know what you're trying to know if it's right ask a fluent korean english speaker or whatever other language you speak, I assume English since you're speaking English AND PLEASE NEVER SPEAK WITH COMFORTABLE SPEECH😭😭 especially if you don't want other to treat you like some other foreigner, Koreans will tell you to speak comfortably to them because you are foreigner, if you want to be treated and seen like a korean then always speak formally you obviously won't be korean but they'll treat you like one, words like oppa and unni aren't cringe, in fact expect to be called that by girls since you probably will, actually you will definitely get called either of those (idk if you're a man or a woman, if you're a woman use those words) don't just call them by their name, ESPECIALLY if you just met them 😭, Short summary Koreans are cool, they'll let you know when you got something wrong, don't be that one person that's been learning a language for 4 years but still sounds like a beginner, be formal, they'll treat you nicely regardless but you won't be seen as a foreigner as much.

@Anppan English is my 3rd language respectively too im going to try and learn tagalog and Japanese before korean because my gf is filipino and I always wanted to learn Japanese so I wanna get that out the way, after that korean and then mandarin are next on the list

For me, learning a language is all about fun and that's the best way. Sure, English lessons are mandatory in school, honestly regardless of the country you're in, but I've quickly surpassed the vocabulary of the school by playing video games. Seriously. I think my first major motivation to learn English was Terraria, because I didn't know what "delete" means. Let's see...When was the Wall Of Flesh introduced? According to the wiki, in 2011. That means I've learned English on a regular basis for ca. 12 years and nowadays, I can write exams in my sleep. It's honestly just a matter of immersion. I've learned French for 5 years, but haven't used it in 8 years. Now, I'm learning Japanese and I've picked up most of the necessary vocabulary from anime. Hiragana and Katakana are relatively easy to learn. I'm currently trying out Duolingo for that and it actually helps a bit. The only part that sucks are the listening exercises. It happens way too often that the audio of a syllable is almost identical to the audio of another one. I honestly just need to learn how to actually hold a conversation.

As someone who speaks around 7 languages I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a positive mindset and to just keep going. Trust the process and you will achieve your goals. Start doubting yourself and you will quickly lose all kinds of progress and motivation.

in your experience what was the most productive practice you adopted to improve fast ?

Just practice for 30 minutes or an hour a day maybe one rest day a week for a month and see how your brain transforms, you will develop a habit to keep learning. It will make it easier but learn in a way you like if you don't like rote learning, learn from songs/tv shows, you need to do some rote learning at first but not really required. To make a habit it takes 21 days to make a habit so just trust the process eventually you'll be studying it automatically and then you will get better overtime with exposure. There are no rules if you self-study and choose the way you want to learn. Sleep is also very important do not skip sleep. @@pinkmatter8488

It's more of the quantity problem. Like tiling 100km² with 25cm square tiles. It's not a complicated task, but it takes a lot of time complete

@Japanese-Learning , it could be rewarding though, like then you piece together foreign grammar. Or you finally notice that you understand something. Hardest thing probably is to decide, what you need to learn next Though I don't remember having that problem in english. It seems like the school did give me the necessary basis, so I could continue to grind it passively with movies and other media. Yet again, even if I don't realise it now, I had years of practice with it

It makes sense, if one is trying to learn a non-pretty language, one will lose motivation naturally, because non-pretty words do not bring joy to one’s eye, so they aren’t naturally motivating - that’s why I never lose motivation, in fact, I only get more obsessed and more áddìcted to learning, because I only selected the pretty languages with super gorgeous words that bring a lot of joy to the eye, so I enjoy seeing all those pretty words and learning them, and I find the learning process very enjoyable, I enjoy learning gorgeous languages like Old Norse and Dutch and Icelandic and Gothic and Norwegian and Welsh and Breton and Hungarian and Faroese and Danish and the other 30+ pretty languages that I am learning, and I started learning languages on my own last year!

Old Norse is one of the prettiest languages I’ve ever seen, it has real gorgeous words like erfiði / yfir / haf / vindr / dyn / skegg / dróttinn / veit / drengr / fjall / hǫnd / fisksins / lengr / hvassir / rauðr / hvarr / grænn / hvat / líkligr / hǫss / afi / frændi / heitir / veð / hráka / þó / kvern / mælti / hét / setja / hinn / kveða / sinn / leið / brott / knerri / við / dýr / með / heyra / eða etc, and the word endings (like nir and inn and sins etc) and the letter combinations are so pretty, just like the word endings and letter combinations in English and Dutch and Norwegian, and, I am actually trying to get Old Norse & Gothic and the other ancient Germanic languages spoken again by many as a main language, these languages are too pretty to be unknown by most - I can’t stop learning new pretty words in Old Norse and Icelandic (and the other pretty languages) and they are really áddìctive to look at and read and hear in lyrics etc, I’ve been listening to Skáld songs in Old Norse and Icelandic since I found the first song in Old Norse (Troll Kalla Mik) and I’ve memorized most of those lyrics!

I have no experience in learning languages besides english that I've been learning my whole life at school and I mastered mostly via fb groups, articles, books and youtube videos. Now I want to start language learning from japanese and your vids have finally inspired me to start. Although jp is much harder than other languages I've considered (kinda scary to pick as a first self-taught language tbh), japan and japanese culture, especially music and literature, is the one I'm feeling most connected with. There are many jp artists that I'd love to understand, but there either little to no translations of their work, or the translations are of poor quality. And even if they are well-translated, reading and understanding something in it's original language hits completely different, especially with more poetic, metaphorical stuff. I hope that my assumptions are right and my reasons and motivation will surpass the difficulty of japanese and I'll power through lol. Wish me luck.

This was the best video I have seen on language learning. Honestly, I got teary-eyed bc I have been struggling. My goal is to learn spanish bc that is my husbands first language and I want to be able to communicate with his family. But that has lead me to other languages that i want to speak and places I want to visit one day. I am trying to learn Russian cursive but it is very frustrating because sources on the Internet give contradictory and/or incomplete information. One source says to draw a letter one way, another says to draw it a different way. Sometimes the video has cuts in it, or the person's hand obscures the writing, so that I cannot see when they are picking up their pen (which is crucially important information since cursive is supposed to maximize the amount of time that the pen is in contact with the paper). What one needs to see for each letter is a clearly defined sequence of strokes, with each stroke being a path in 2-dimensional space with a starting point, a direction, and a stopping point, but some sources only show the final renderings of the letters. Sources will leave out important details like the fact that a few letters are supposed to have "hooks" on the left side which must stay intact even when joining with another letter. Also the way that letters are joined can vary slightly depending on the relative heights of the two connecting letters. Sources leave out this information, or they don't explain it thoroughly. If you try to use the KZbin search function, it points you to videos that are popular but are nevertheless of low pedagogic quality in the sense that they don't do a good job of teaching it. Native Russians are bad at teaching it because they write automatically with muscle memory without having any conscious comprehension of what they are doing with their hands; they have long since forgotten the learning process that they went through in elementary school.

Also, about the making mistakes in the language part, that has happened to me before. There was this one time that I was talking to a French native. I learned a bit of French in school and I felt like flaunting it and stuff until I said, "Je suis bien" instead of "J'ai bien" and got laughed at.

In college I was learning 3 languages at once and I absolutely loved it. Had dreams of being a polyglot. Then the ADHD won and I stopped and moved on to another hobby/interest phase. Almost 10 years later now and I miss it… I would’ve been so good at them now if I never quit! Ughh 😩

I'm a language tutor, I always tell my students that the primary goal of language learning is communication. Sure, strive for C1, I'll help you in any way that I can, but if you're able to communicate successfully with native speakers of your target language, it's all that truly matters.

We in Russia have some troubles with immigrants, as, seemingly, immigration politics allow people with A2 to become citizens. And it is pain in the arse to understand some of them. Therefore, if you have B1/B2, we'll make backflip just for you, I swear. p.s. : Russian can be bent as much as one wants to(literally minimal requirement to be understood is using correct words in their default form in correct order), natives will understand you even if you speaking with 2 mistakes per word. With only downside that you will recieve harsh stares at you.

The intro was the most relateable stuff I have ever heard in my life. I am good with phonology and scripts and can easily adjust to that and I am not worried about difficulty (I actually æike difficulty since it helps me adjust to new and interesting concepts), but I just don't know where to start and with what language. There's too many options for too much and they overwhelm me because I am incredibly indecisive. I really want to learn á European language that I can speak just as much as English but it just feels so far away sometimes and I can't keep myself on top of things. After trying over and over again for the past 4 years with different languages, I just can't hold on to any of them, no matter how intersting they still are to me. Alone, I can't rely on myself to stay on top of things, so I just study random linguistic things in the Indo European language family, and I've found a lot of really interesting stuff. I'm doing what I at least can for now. I'm hoping I can find a language partner one day brcause I definitely can't rely on lesrning solo

I have almost never posted on YT. This dude deserves it though. Ive been feeling burnt out recently as I've reached the intermediate plateau in Spanish and am approaching it in Portuguese. I was going to pick another language and have met great international friends but it's becoming more like work than fun. Thank you Simp for reminding me that the original point is social connection and ultimately for enjoyment. Also, i want to say thank you for explaining the actual process of language learning. It is indeed super discouraging seeing a true polyglot speak multiple languages at a high level on a KZbin video and then compare my mediocre and mistake-filled attempts at speaking. This was the best language learning material ive consumed in months and i currently have half a dozen books and twice as many apps downloaded on my phone.

As someone who finally made it further in German learning than I ever did in French and Spanish, it's actually sometimes mind-boggling how much I can say in German now. It's made me rethink Spanish and maybe French, if I am desperate enough. (I joke, French sounds beautiful, I just hated learning it when I was 13 and my dad wanted me to. Maybe now almost 10 years later I'll change my mind.) And I definitely have thought about also learning my parents' native tongue, which managed to dodge me almost completely when I was growing up (as in I can understand fine when I hear it, I just can't speak it and can barely read it). I always thought maybe my brain wasn't built for languages, but learning German to this level has done wonders for my self esteem (generally, the one time I took a language test I complained about how dumb I felt and how I was definitely going to fail for like a month to one of my Mitschüler from the language learning school, sorry again man). I kind of wish I'd stuck with French when I was 13 or Spanish when I was 17, but I can always go back and relearn. I don't know what the point of this comment is anymore. I would honestly say I probably already sound like a dork to some degree in English and certainly to another greater degree in German lol, but that's okay. I just need to have less fear of sounding like a dork I guess. I'm trying to grow out of the perfectionism I had for the longest time that kind of hindered my motivation to learn a language because I might sound dumb and learning German has to some degree helped. I have sounded dumb so many times, used the wrong words, forgotten whole words and had to try to describe what I meant, but I got so far already and the world didn't end. I know I can get further, so when I'm not so busy anymore why not try French and Spanish again?

@@superherofan9425 Just work hard by listening to podcasts and videos while reading the transcripts, it really helps. I am learning German and I find it incredibly hard. With French, grammar is easy, and I can usually remember words. German is alien. Sich erinnern - for example. Or - Ich bin aus dem Auto ausgestiegen.

I have so far only watched 3 minutes of this video but I unironically agree with everything and relate. I managed to learn a few European languages when I was a teen, and now being 27, I can't be bothered anymore. I prefer to listen to music, read books and follow world events. Learning languages has gotten actually much harder for me, and if I actually manage to learn another language before I turn 50, I'll be happy... EDIT: I saw the entire video and the second part doesn't say anything I didn't know before. It's inspirational, but I'm too far gone for it to affect me haha. The first part is superior. I could really relate XD

It makes me sad to see people get so torn about how to learn langauges. Its the 21st century and we've got more ways of learning now than we ever did. Why stick to a dictionary or just flash cards? What I do wish to share is that, at age 57, for the first time in my entire life, I started studying Spanish. Ten hours per day for two years and, I´m fluent. What does «fluent» mean? I can read any book off the shelves like its my native tongue, write at that level, understand 90% except for Roma Gallardo because, I truly want to meet the mudderfker who can understand him! And, I created an active non-cognate vocabulary of 14,000 in context entries. Actually, I´m hoping to find a man or two who is interested in learning Spanish and share what I have --for free-- . For potential friendship. Otherwise, fuck you.

@@antimagetop1 1. Break the subject into macro-components (vocabulary, grammar, verb model contexts). 2. Decide of these three, which can be combined and how into a singular approach (All three, one approach). 3. Create the tool of consolidation from steps 1 and 2. 4. Read all the grammar A-C level as if it was a technical manual, all the way through. That's it. Then, it's just a matter of time. I covered the entire grammar of Spanish in 6 months, just enough to cover it. From day one I started a lexicon in full context with one word. Two years later, REJECTING all cognates, I have an active vocabulary of 14000 words, on my way to 20,000. Would you like a free copy? See my YTC.

@@antimagetop1 Comprehensible Input is a complete lie. Never ever listen to a monolingual Brit for advice on learning languages. You can understand what you repeat. When you repeat enough, you understand enough. Listening isn´t something you do, it´s something that happens AFTER you understand. Hear something, repeat it in comprehension and then you understand it but, you never understand something just by hearing it. Besides, listening does NOTHING for speaking and your goal is speaking, right? So speak. Try saying this: Esta es la primera vez que hablo. Again. Again. Again. Now, guess what? You´ll now understand it when you hear it no matter HOW FAST it is said. Listening won´t do that.

It’s actually better to learn many languages at the same time, as it saves many years and it makes the learning process more interesting, and I highly recommend only choosing pretty languages such as Old Norse / Dutch / Norwegian (they are as gorgeous as English) and also Breton / Welsh / Faroese / Gothic / Hungarian / Galician etc and any other / all other Germanic languages are the other 4 modern Celtic languages etc, as they are all gorgeous! I am fluent and almost fluent in multiple languages, and trying to learn over 50 languages, so I’ve been learning 15+ languages since I started learning languages on my own last year! I am close to intermediate level in Old Norse & Icelandic & Welsh, advanced level in Dutch, close to advanced level in Norwegian, intermediate level in Portuguese / French / Italian / Swedish / German, writer level in English, native speaker level in Spanish, beginner level in Breton / Gothic / Danish / Galician / Latin / Hungarian / Slovene, total beginner level in most other languages I’m learning like Faroese / Irish / Manx / Cornish / Scottish Gaelic / Luxembourgish / East Norse / Norn / Greenlandic Norse / Limburgish / Occitan / West Frisian / North Frisian / East Frisian / Walloon / Guernsey / Aranese / Esperanto / Finnish / Estonian / Latvian and the other Italian-based languages, tho I can understand a lot of words in East Norse and Greenlandic Norse and Limburgish etc because they are very similar to Old West Norse and Dutch, but I haven’t even started properly studying these languages yet, so I am a total beginner in these!

I started learning Japanese because I loved the culture. It’s insanely frustrating and annoying and I get frustrated over how there’s 3 writing sets. But at the end. I loved every minute of it and it’s completely changed my life. I even got to live in Japan for 6 months (not a weeb) it was amazing. 決してあきらめないでください。言語はあなたの人生と世界の見方を変えます。

I try not to get discouraged by people flexing online but it’s so common lol. Like people who claimed they learned kanji up to N1 in a week or whatever. Or people who say they’ve been studying Japanese for a total of 1 week and they’re asking some extremely complex question about grammar or keigo.

Fantástico vídeo. Al final das el que tal vez sea el mejor consejo para alguien que quiera aprender un idioma: haz lo que sea que te mantenga motivado. Por ejemplo, yo estoy aprendiendo chino y sé que en mi nivel actual sería mucho más eficiente concentrarme en la lectura y no escribir mucho. Pero resulta que me encanta escribir caracteres chinos, puedo estar varias horas todos los días con eso. No me importa si necesito el doble o el triple de tiempo para aprender lo mismo que si me limitara a leer, porque disfruto el proceso, mantengo mi motivación bien arriba, nunca tengo la sensación de haber estado trabajando, y además progreso más rápido porque poder dedicar más horas cada día compensa de sobra el hecho de no haber elegido el camino más corto.

i'm currently learning arabic through english, and also urdu through marathi. i can see similarities in the arabic script with my native devanagiri, and there are lots of similar sounding words as well, especially in hindi which i can speak fluently, and it is really basically the same language urdu, but now i can also read urdu because i can read arabic, and all of this has also inspired me to learn farsi because i just learned urdu takes a lot of words and letters from farsi, and i also just found out marathi has a lot of farsi words that i've used all my life because the mughals who had persian roots had a strong foothold in my state and this is great because urdu also has a strong farsi influence and farsi has good connections with arabic which is what i am learning right now. you inspired me to learn languages

As a native russian I learned english and currently working as a programmer. This language helped me a lot in my life. Firstly to access really great infomation resources. I use it daily to gather more information, but not really for communication. I started thinking about learning french, because really love it and french songs has been motivating me for a while. So, the whole month has passed and I got serious problem with motivation. I like to learn it, but also ask myself. For what? This is incredebly long journey at least in 5 years to get good at this language (remember I learned it as a hobby after work). Really don't know what to do with it. Should I just let go my idea and do something else. It seems like watching TV or playing video games are more entertaining time spendnings.

@@pxolqopt3597 The best way for me to learn new language is Pumsleur method. I tried many resources, but this one incredibly effective. It is like long audio course, where you are engaging in process actively. Again, it is just an audio, you don't interact with people, can even find this course for free. it supports tone of languages. So, watch a video about it and you'll understand what I meab

I am fluent in English, French and Spanish. I am intermediate in Polish and (even after 800 hours) upper beginner in Japanese. I admit that I have been both inspired and discouraged by watching KZbin language learning videos. Luca Lampariello I find especially impressive. He's the real deal. But sometimes he makes me feel very stupid!

@@watermelon3679 My native language is English. I was born and raised in Brussels, so I learned French as a child and did much of my schooling in French. I moved to Spain 27 years ago and married a Spanish lady (the best way to learn a new language!), and I am now native level in Spanish. I started learning Polish 3 years ago, but I still haven't gone to Poland. I just learn through online material and chat with Poles. I can make myself understood,but I make lots of mistakes with the cases and complex verbs. Japanese has been by far the hardest language, because it is completely unrelated to any others I know. I try to get in an hour per day, and am making slow progress.
