I have two Vietnamese friends (not related to each other) that both use the butter trick and both use a bit of sugar which you will see being used in most Vietnamese rice recipes. And no, you don't taste the sugar it just adds to the flavor with the soy & fish sauces. Their rice recipes are better than any fried rice I have eaten in restaurants in over 30 years. I'm going to approve Lanie's method! lol Looks delish!

Actually, it tastes much better with butter. Before turning off the stove or when you're just done, put in a little scoop (not too much), give it a quick even stir then serve...yummy. i'm Vietnamese & love to eat

To each is own...make the way you like it... I've never had sausage with mine but you add butter for taste if it's your choice just saying...😉

I dont get it, why do Americans always use powder garlic. It tastes like shit. Why can't you just chop up some fresh garlic and it would taste a whole lot better.

Gotta use what I have… some days it’s fresh garlic… some days it powder, my friend.
