Another fantastic video as usual. We are over in CT at the end of June and I saw on one of the Lanzarote forums that the northern lights may be visible in Lanzarote through June. Would you know if this is the case? Cheers Mike.

It would be a surprise if it happened. I know they've occasionally seen them from parts of mainland Spain when there are big solar flares, but we're a long way south of there. They have occasionally been visible from Mount Teide in Tenerife, but that's over 5 times higher than the highest point in Lanzarote.

Thanks a lot for these informative videos, Mike. My wife and I are both subscribed and watch them every Saturday after lunch. I went to that place in Timanfaya the first time in 1993 with 3 children and have been quite a few times since. It’s not somewhere I would have a child on my shoulders. I can think of a lot of words to describe such behaviour and intelligent isn't one of them. I would have thought it’s made very clear that there are very high temperatures, and it can be dangerous. I’ve been surprised a few times about the use of the word “lady” by British people on Lanzarote. And men somehow happen to be referred to as guys. What’s wrong with men and women? You mentioned the wind but not the awful weather. We came back a week ago after just over 3 weeks at our house near Munich - awful weather there too, especially this weekend - and haven’t been able to sit outside to have lunch since then. Not impressive for the end of May / beginning of June.

The latest update is that the child's burns were mainly to the feet and less serious, but she has been transferred to Gran Canaria for further treatment. The woman's burns were more serious, but she is "out of danger" and will also be transferred to Gran Canaria soon.

Mike once again thanks for the updates.Any news on the HD resorts hotel in Costa Teguise .They are due to shut down this September for a make over.

Good they are going to sow wheat but I guess it will need water to grow, stableizing the soil so as not to become a mud slide under torential downpours, basicly going back to their roots(😊sorry)

Why have the farmers abandoned the fields, is it financially impossible for them to cultivate these fields?

There are a few factors at play. The fields are small and hard to access, so no automation is possible, which means everything has to be done by hand, which is very expensive. Essentially they were created to feed the farmer's families, but with the advent of inexpensive produce being imported from the mainland or other islands, they fell into disuse. Currently, we also have a water problem on the island, with years of drought, and the desalination plant running at low capacity while it is being refurbished, so growing anything that requires regular watering is a real problem. Wheat needs very little.
