Shipping is $6-7 an item unless you rack up a total of $35 or more and by not having Prime, you also miss product discounts as well. I would only do what you’re suggesting if I feel like burning through money.

I made it as an Amazon driver in the SF Bay Area for only about 8 months before I had to quit. I gave it my all, and honestly had incredible coworkers and supervisors, but the turnover rate was insane, and switching our routes and service areas completely took me out of it. Still, I got to be Santa to so many people that Christmas, and I'm glad I tried. You guys are the best. To any current Amazon drivers out there, y'all have some serious heart.

I worked as a driver for a week, then quit. The amount of packages they give a newbie is insane. I was on the road with a trainer 1 day, 1 shift. 2nd day and forward, on my own. Did I get all my stuff delivered, of course not. Did I catch hell for it? Of course I did. Constantly being told to go quicker. I went as fast as I could, as safe as I could. Still was getting reprimanded. My last day, halfway through, I called dispatch and told them I quit. I had enough. I got rescued, drove the van back, and left. Best I felt in a week. I never took a break cause I knew I was behind, yet by law we should be taking breaks. I must have sweat off at least 20-25 lbs of water, and when I was done working I had no energy to drive home more less eat. All I did was drink water for a week. Being honest. I get there are many packages, and I'm one that does like a fast paced job, but this was ridiculous. How they treat a newbie to the job sucks. The demands are way more then a newbie can handle. And they wonder why their turnover rate as astronomical.

Amazon contracts third party companies. That one really seems to suck. For my company, they gave my trainer a lighter load so he can better teach me and on the second day I was on my own but they gave me reduced stops which increased to pace me in over a month. Tho a coworker told me that another company (which is literally one desk away from my company) doesn’t do all that, much like the one you worked for. It’s pretty bs, no way would anyone fair well being thrown straight in without any proper preparation.

I feel for you guys. I work for a UPS Store and mostly what we do now is Amazon returns. We broke our record for returns after Prime Day not to mention our returns are growing fast in general. I've been there for 16 years and it's pushing me hard to throw in the towel and move on. Two other co-workers said they would quit if I left because they're getting worn down. The good thing with going through this return insanity over the years is that I cancelled my Amazon account(use to spend thousands a year) and it made me rethink what I really needed and how I could get it locally or buy it straight from the manufacturer if I couldn't find it here. I told Corporate back in 2022 that all the stores will turn into return stores and they laughed at me. Now it's 2024 and we barely print or actually ship anything and corporate is bending over for this return dystopia that society is feeding.

Yeah, you're right. A lot of people in the comment section express their gratitude towards the delivery drivers which in general is great but kinda missing the entire point. People who care and have the ability to should try to do the mild inconveniences you mentioned like ordering directly from the manufacturer or your local stores (e.g. groceries, books etc.) to the best of our ability and generally scale back the heavy cosumer mindset Amazon and other corporations condition you to do with their sales like Prime Day, Black Friday and general marketing. You thankfully really don't need much in our day and age to live very comfortably. Only people who don't want you to think like that are the big corporations and how they design their business strategy and even products (think of Apple and other electric manufacturers with their planned obsolescence) but thankfully there are a lot of alternatives still around.

I miss my delivery job sometimes. It was fun and i enjoyed seeing the customers faces light up or smile when i arrived with there package. It felt good seeing someone's day be made. I worked for a sub contracting delivery company and let me tell you the management was horrible. They did not care if you were out super late. They would only send help to the people they liked or were cool with. I couldn't take it anymore so i quit. I hate how most drivers decide to skip breaks because of the amount of work they have. I always took my break no matter how heavy my route was. Don't kill yourself working for companies like these, they do not care about you. They will replace you in a heartbeat. Always do your job well though, don't be lazy but also don't work too hard. I'm excited for what's next for this channel.

I’m a dispatcher at a DSP in Florida, if you had that much on our watch, we would have you split your stuff up with extra staffers we employ just to help get routes finished. We operate a little differently, and our retention rate is above 80% because our people love us!

My DSP used to do that, until they found out that some people are capable of doing so. To the few people that are capable, they ever receive any rescue, but those that aren’t, will always do. This is why there should be a pay raise differential, sadly there isn’t.

I started in June... The summer was brutal, but eoc thrown out the window 😊 Full blast of ac all day and other key is to hydrate... Not just straight water, grab those electrolyte packets Amazon gives out. I still use them even in Dec as well

Strait up abuse, and these last 10 days have been horrible. 171 stops/331 locations/516 packages and nearly 100 grouped stops that one guy received, is insanity. The fact that Amazon thinks this is ok, let alone doable, is absolutely hilarious. I’ve been bringing back full totes and overflow most days during the last week or so. The loads are impossible for most, yet they think the majority of people can get them done, with all breaks taken, and 100% safety metrics. And they wonder why the turnover rate is sky high 😂🤣

Respect man. Sometimes I do deliveries where I work and it can take a few hours just to drive the route around the city for ~20 deliveries. Construction, road closures, one-way streets, and nearly zero parking doesn't help. I basically park illegally for probably 75% of them.

Absolutely, I Illegally park for most deleveries, cause I don't have a choice. And it ain't no lie about the hours on 20 deliveries. I know some routes where it takes 2 hours to get through 10 deliveries. And they expect you to do 250 by the end of the day. On my route, I do about 60 in 2 hours, and that's chilling taking it easy, taking a few minutes here and there. But then I'll get sent on the buisness route, and ain't shit getting done. Cause I can't make a left turn. Why Amazon insists of left turns is beyond me.

Pro tip from a fellow drive, ,use a sharpie to mark your overflow with the driver aid number. It makes it sooo much easier. I would quit on the spot if I got 26 bags and 50 overflow lol

I did that in the beginning, then I got a Box truck instead of that tiny van. I just organize them by the aid numbers and figure it out when I get to the stop. All 500s here, 600s here... takes most of the looking for it away without wasting time to mark them. The only real issue with it, is when everything is so fucking big you can't organize shit, and then you look through all of them and don't find it... turns out they put the wrong aid number on it, so you have to look at all the addresses. The other thing i started doing if i get a van, is just throwing all the small shit on the passenger floor, cause it's easier to just look through that pile than it is to organize all of it, "in stop order"

Then you will not succeed because your working for a third party contractrd to Amazon, it's the subcontractor that is the issue, they get a lumpsum from Amazon but also have deadlines and a quota to meet. Pro tips for people who want to drive for Amazon: -Do not obey stop signs -Do not obey speed limits -Do not follow delivery instructions (scan it, drop it, and GO!GO!GO!) -Disable GPS it takes too long to calibrate -Do not take breaks -Need to pee? You will not recive travel time allotment to find restrooms. Grab that water bottle you got from the distribution center, go in the cargo hold and press that skjt up to your junk and let it rip. No exceptions for girls. -Remember it will be ~10° hotter in the cargo area than ambient temperature so if you live in an area with 90-100° weather......good luck not getting heat stroke. -plan your own routes, bc the meth addict Ai route planner will screw you with frequent tight U-turns, and doubling back on places you already went to. -Leave your van doors open even if you must jam them, they take too long to open and close hundreds of times -Spoof the seat belt safety device so you needn't waste time taking it on and off every stop. -Realize that by following these tips your delivery speed will be...just barely satisfactory...and the algorithm will push you harder the very next day.

I don't mind the work I'm doing too much but I reckon I'll start being more strict about our official policy in the future; which is that our company actually only have to deliver to ground floor entrance when it comes to flats/apartments. People often expect us to carry them up to their floor, even if there's no elevator, and if you ask them to give you a hand sometimes they refuse lol. So if I get that kinda person in the future I'll just say i have to cancel the order. I'm more lenient when it's old folk or people with clear physical disabilites, but when its just someone who doesn't wanna do it for themseklves its like brother Im not paid enough to ruin my body for you to get your 20 crates of cola today.

I been working for a bit corporation in Canada for about 4 years and it’s not the same since I first join, when I joined it was before Covid so they used to gift us 30$ Tim Hortons card, give us 2k check to spend on stores the company owns, give us free merch, would let us get 3 extra pay vacation for 50$ and give us free carry on bags for groceries and was a decent place now it’s 2024 my last year I’m gunna work there and they don’t give us all the things I mention and now there’s hardly any work going around to the point we barely even work like last week I only worked 30 hrs and week before that was 37 hrs and this week was 33 hrs cuz they been giving us a lot of cut shift due to things breaking down due to being too old, no one is buying product from the stores and not enough work to go around for everyone so I ain’t getting full paid check every time always loosing 250$ each paycheck cuz of cut shift stupid! Now next year I am thinking of doing trade school we will see

Bro you should put your over flow in order when loading your van, It makes it so much easier to grab the boxes, From the phone grab the first over flow by the order sticker and go down the list when loading your van, This trick has saved me so much time delivering the packages rather then digging through the van for 1 package

Unfortunately you get 20 minutes to load everything in the van, sometimes your packages aren’t ready, and by the time you hit the road you don’t really have time to resort everything as it would require removing a good deal of them. It’s actually faster to just dig through it. I put my first few overflow boxes in the front which helps make room

At least you guys got the fancy new electric vans, and have a nice and clean warehouse to be in during morning briefings and loading. My DSP had old dirty vans, half of em the side door didn't work properly, the driver seat cushions damaged or missing the cushionings, food crumbs and small trash all over the dashboard, and some of the vans' AC doesn't work, or work well. Not that it mattered since with the gas vans you are also technically suppose to turn off the van at every stop and take the keys with you, giving the AC no chance to actually cool the front seats before you reach the next stop anyway during summer heat. We also did our morning gathering and prep talks out in an open parking lot with no shades, and loaded our vans out in the open sun instead of in the warehouse, real fun during the summer.

I worked for a DSP from September of last year through Januaray. Prime Day, Black Friday and Peak. I stuck it out for the overtime but can comfortably say this it was far and away the worst job I've ever had and I'm happy that I had a fall back that allowed me to quit the second I got scheduled a 30 hour week. From ant infested vans to vans with shit smeared on the walls to even finding a used tampon. Then they started making us follow engine off compliance and it was a complete gamble weather or not that van would turn back on because they just refused to change the batteries in them. I knew Amazon was dog shit from the years I worked in the warehouse but I thought it'd be different considering it was a DSP. But no, Amazon still has a stranglehold on every aspect of the job to where you're just an Amazon employee that they don't have to take responsibility for it something happens to you. Dog shit company, dog shit job. Get as far away as you can.

Just started this past Nov. The app routing is terrible and this isn't my first rodeo with driving. Walking up to the wrong house hands full is the worst. Solid content that's helped out quite a bit. Mid Michigan here

I work with a contractor for FedEx and we have designated routes if youre good enough to have them. In my honest opinion, the worst culprit of these really heavy days is NOT the corporations, rather the customers. I deliver A LOT of Walmart, Target, Home Depot, etc. when there is literally a store within 10 minutes of their house. People have become so consumed with pressing order on their app that they dont understand how those packages are getting there. This summer has been one of the most brutal times ever, even during Christmas peak from last year. The amount of furniture and all around goods is staggering. Last year summer averaged around 135-145 stops (200pkgs). I have not had a day below 165 (250 pkgs) in the past month, it is exhausting. If this reaches anybody, please take that extra minute to ask yourself, " do I NEED to order this, or can I go to a nearby store to pick it up?" It will save everyone in the long term. Also if you order heavy furniture, please be ok with it being at the edge of your driveway, we did not order it and we are not going to risk a hernia just so you dont have to carry it. Thank you Chris for showing not what just an Amazon driver goes through, but a pkg delivery driver in general.

Since it’s less likely that customers will start ordering less, the real solution is for these jobs to compensate workers fairly. They should be paying double

I'm sorry you're being taken advantage of by your employer but that's not going to stop my online orders
