Here is a selection of shots taken with the Laowa 65mm 1.5x Nanomorph anamorphic on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
I had used several Laowa lenses in the past but this was my first time testing out their anamorphic ones and I really enjoyed the experience!
For my tests I filmed as much as I could! From landscape to documentary style, at sunset, in harsh light and even at dusk. I really wanted to use it in as many situations possible during the month I’ve had it.
Filmed on the BMPCC 6K PRO, in 6K BRAW.
Mostly between T2.4 and T4.

I really like the frame size that this lens and camera combo creates. I have several ideas about how a narrative piece could use that type of frame to tell an itneresting story. Beautiful work as always Flo, thanks for these gorgeous images. Using an EasyRig? Handheld anamorphic isn't easy in my experience, any deviation from horizontal gets punished if you need to clean anything up with stabilisation ha ha, so great job! Do you happen to know how much the rear element protrudes - guessing you have an EF mount? I want to order one of these but Laowa haven't published any info for the 65 or 80 mm EF/PL protrusions yet. I'm on PL but can probably get a good guesstimate from EF if you happen to have it. Many thanks!

@@OfTwoLands well done! Yeah, nice review thanks, no info on the EF-PL rear element protrusion though and Laowa aren't replying, a shame. I *think* they'll all fit one of my cameras, but I have one with the Mofage PL to RF adapter and only the 50mm will fit from the 27-50 range due to the protrusion in the 27 and 35. We're in the dark about the 65 and 80's rear protrusion...

It look soft. Ansmorphic lens should look best on FF open gate sensor with lots of height

@@OfTwoLands I figured, you have good taste- so you know. Side note, I’ve been using the GJ 35mm a lot this past month and the no flare is wild. The lens may be ahead of its time. No flare anamorphic has a lot of pros especially for documentary work.

Was most impressed with the scene of your wife painting. Great coverage and well edited together. Sundown looked amazing. What ISO did you use for those sunset scenes? Did you denoise?

Thank you mate, glad you liked it !! I used 3200 for most of the dusk shots and I did denoise very slighly for a few shots :) The other sunset shots are 400.

What colour space do you use for your main project setting? and do you increase the saturation a lot, when I apply 5207 in resolve it looks very desatured and contrasty@@OfTwoLands

Were you able to find 1.5x desqueeze firmware, or is this the aspect ratio using 1.33x inside the camera with the 1.5x lens? I only currently have the 1.33x desqueeze on my original pocket 6K but haven't updated the firmware yet. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you!

Thanks for your video. It looks like the first set of anamorphic glass I might actually buy. I just have one question. What mount did you pick? How did you make it work? Since there is no EF option and it’s designed for mirrorless (little flange distance) I can’t work out, what to choose. I also considered a set of M43 lens for use with my BMPCC4K, but.. the crop and the 16:9 sensor ratio with 1,5x stretch might not produce what I want. Or? Thanks!

Thanks for watching!! I went with the EF since I film with the BMPCC6K & 6K Pro, as they actually do a S35 version with EF and PL :)

Thank you!! I would prefer a bit wider for my type of work but it doesn't' feel too tight and allows for great shots even landscape. I will discuss it a bit more in my review :)
