I have always had some trouble finding petite fit frames and sometimes had to special order a smaller version of something from the board. Maybe another tip for opticians is to be sure to stock varieties for different-sized heads.

Thank you for these videos! I'm a hyperope with severe astigmatism who's had to advocate for myself (finding the right progressive lens type for my prescription) more than I believe anyone should. On top of that, I have a small face and don't feel like most optical shops have frames that suit me. Instead of asking the optician to special order a frame, I usually order them online and bring them to a shop.

Curious why the quote you had on the board about just adding the special order frame to backstock wasn't addressed? With many frame companies offering free shipping and 1 to 1 no-penalty exchanges for frames I wonder if this changes the thinking on special orders. Granted they do require time and energy as far as placing the order and coordinating with the patient, but in the internet age where patients expect endless choice I do think there's value in offering special orders as an option.

The thinking is: Sell what you have - that special order didn't sell so it wasn't on your board in the first place for a reason and now it was rejected by a customer making it even less likely to be something you will sell. Hopefully you can read between the lines and understand that there is a bit of dramatic effect to that part of the video. Of course special orders have their place but it sure as heck shouldn't be a common thing. As always - If something works well for you then keep doing it! But if you control your inventory and have stand out pieces you believe in then you should never ever have to think about what the internet offers. If you think/know that you lack inventory to compete with online then I would think you would want to increase inventory not become an internet shopping middle-person? Have what they want and close that sale today and put that money into the business today. John
