But do we need a new controller for this? Quest 3 has finger tracking. Being a developer who likes to peek into the VR world as a hobby, I have recently used a Khronos OpenXR example to connect to Quest 3 from a PC, fetch its own finger-tracking data, and display it in a rudimentary 3D demo scene. The only stupid issue was the palm gesture, it kept showing the menus when I did not want this at all. I found a few other developers who were angry at Meta for being not able to turn this gesture off in settings or for their app specifically.

I just wanna give example of how good Meta Quest 3 is already for working: - Booted up PCVR and started sculpting in ShapeLabs. - Got Whatsapp message and answered it in the VR. - Browsed the internet and answered to work emails in Outlook. - double tapped the headset with controller to go in passthrough mode and went to get drink while headset was on. - Continued sculpting. - Took a break to play couple rounds of Beat Saber to exercise. - More browsing and emails. - Sculpting. - Passthrough to pat our kitty and get more water. - Work Work (Peon voice). - Stop. And all that time I also listened music with KZbin music. My computer was on just for ShapeLabs and Outlook. Maybe someday we get Quest version for ShapeLabs and Outlook (please).

what are your thoughts on shapelab vs substance painter? I'm thinking about getting it just for texturing since I already model in Adobe Medium

@@bee3D They are 2 totally different things. Shapelabs is for 3D-sculpting in VR and Substance painter is for the texturing/painting the model. Both are best programs at what they do but Substance painter is way overpriced since you can do the painting etc in other programs as well. It is just "best" for that specific job. Same as Zbrush is best for flatscreen sculpting but expensive and you can sculpt for free with Blender pretty much as easily as with Zbrush. So my suggestion is that if you wanna sculpt in VR then use Shapelabs, if you wanna texture/paint etc 3D-models then use Blender (free) but if you got $100+++ to throw then Substance painter is the best. And for rig animations I recommend Cascardeur.

Man, this video had all the new futures I dream from the close future of VR. I know it will take more time for BCI and something like disney holodeck to get to the point of being affordable easy to use enough to get it in our homes, but just the fact that the possibility has emerged makes me excited for the future.

BCI actually isn't too bad at the moment, you can pick up a Muse 2 (what was used in the clip) for around $200 new or down to as low as $50 second hand (according to the people in the bci tracking discord anyway, i haven't fact checked this for myself)

As to ear control. I can wiggle my physical ears on my irl body. It took years of practice but it amazes everyone I demonstrate it to. Not bragging as it was work to do, but vr adding this sounds fun for those that didn’t go crazy like me 😅

Rabkin doesn’t listen to us. The Q3 has had a wifi defect since launch with subpar antennas inside and poor wifi drivers. Still broken 4 months later. Plenty of videos and 100s of forum posts documenting it. Q2 gets good reception, standing in same spot, Q3 gets poor wifi

I will almost certainly be pre-ordering the Diver-X ContactSheet. I think finger tracking is incredibly important in VR, on its own nearly as important as FBT. Admittedly I say that as someone without FBT yet, but I suspect I'll maintain that opinion.

The explanation was something like, imagine a spot on your back and you can train your brain in to thinking that the wings are real and an extension of the real body ! You don't get it about not allowing apps on vision pro. It's about making sure the apps don't break on the device, while most smaller devs can get away with not doing QA for their apps. Bigger companies like google and spotify will be held at a different standard, and if something goes wrong people will go on a hatewagon. While if the app is not there in the first place there won't be any expectation.

Also it seems like there is a lot of blurriness when moving your hand and things like that might be the reason why we can’t read messages. Does anyone have any suggestion?

Because of my work and health and weight and past hand injuries over the years I have terrible looking hands. They turn dark pink or purple whenever my arms are down. Because I live in Colorado every time I step outside my hands get freakishly dry within a couple of minutes pretty much everywhere. So I'm not stoked to hear that meta is adding hands on high dlc.

Are there any streaming services specifically for 3D movies on the quest? Big screen only had a couple for rent and they shut off the rent feature. I'm looking to see if there's something like Netflix for the quest that specifically has 3D movies. Yes I have a quest 3 and a quest to I'm just not the sharpest tool in the shed LOL I'm more old school. Honestly wish there was a way to run a cable from a DVD player and just plug the damn thing into the quest where I have a few thousand DVDs and some of them are 3D Blu-ray. I literally have a old Sony HUD unit for that reason I wanted a few people in Canada that has a Japanese version 1 and version 2 of the Sony HUD. Big downfall of those was they really piss for head strap and I cobbled a quest head strap on one a while back the elastic head strap off the quest too I mean I upgraded the quest to quite some time ago with a Halo strap and I use the original head strap off of it on the Sony model 2 Hood unit.its suite for running 3D Blu-rays and DVDs with the HUD connected to a DVD player basically gives you 720 or 1080p I forget which but admittedly it's not nearly as good as the quest. I use big screen for Disney Plus I keep having problems with running streaming services on a web browser and the quest something to do with the browser keeps cutting out and other problems like that not sure what's causing the problem and it kind of bugs me that you don't have a direct app for several streaming services like Paramount where you have to run them in a web browser if you want to use them on the quest and you can only get the screen a certain size from the web browser unlike running it in big screen but I don't think they have a web browser that runs on big screen.

I'm really curious about what it would do with my hands I have a connective tissue disorder that has resulted in me having the "swan finger deformation" from long-term inflammation Most of the time, this doesn't cause any pain or discomfort or loss or movement or mobility but I do have very crooked fingers and some hand weakness I wonder how the Quest 3 camera would pick this up with UR hands

I have hEDS with swan finger deformation, and the finger tracking on my Q2 tends to confuse my quest into thinking my hand is facing the opposite direction lol. Not sure if there will be any improvement here.

If I recall correctly, Quest only has a few buttons and a touch sensor in the joystick/face buttons, so it can only do so much with it. On the other hand (No pun intended), the tracking on the Valve Index works with a bunch of photonic sensors that measure your hand and finger position, motion and all that

Yes, disallowing apps is a sign that companies care about user experience. They would rather Apple Vision Pro users access their products through the web for the time being. It would actually be incredibly incompetent for them to not disable their apps without having QA processes dedicated to catching bugs before they are deployed to AVP.

don't underestimate the power of the untick in Apple App store. When the M1 macs first launched everybody were excited to the possibility of using ipad/iphone apps on the macs. But the reality is MOST developers don't want their mobile apps to be automatically put on the mac app store. So, mac users still have to deal with shitty mac apps. This will happen to the Vision Pro as well in my opinion.

Disney's holodeck thing looks amazing, but I agree with it probably never coming to consumers unless someone else figures it out. 1. Still looks like there's a sizeable amount of machinery going on under the floor so it'll be too bulky for basically everyone to put in their homes and 2. Disney. People can hardly hear me on quest 3 VRChat with internal system mic at 100, in game mic at 100 with steam mic on 100. I would rather play with the version they could hear me on, despite the plosive sounds. I think plosive sounds are funny anyway. They should have given the option to turn it on and off just like any other game with noise suppression.

banning clones and variations is the path so many companies took to becoming closed source d$cks a couple of years down the line. let the market decide instead of deciding for the market, cuz that's exactly what facebook did, which is why sidequest got any traction, and now sidequest has started down the path to do the same thing. there are other ways to manage a ton of clones, like instead of listing all of them in with the general software, any time it 'would' be listed, just have one entry that goes to a "games based on gorilla tag" which people can explore, experiment with variations, etcetera. instead, you just killed a ton of evolutionary experiments because you didn't want to bother thinking of a more clever way to manage them on the platform. :-/

@@spritevr I think creating a feature that better handles his kind of thing will be better for it in the future, while allowing tweaked games to exist. like all the bullet storm titles out there, there's variation on themes, no reason to cut them all down, and every so often someone makes a pretty good variation with features or implementation that wasn't around before, and then people start including those functions too. evolution is a good thing, supporting an evolutionary environment is a good thing, and stomping down arbitrarily on clones leads to stomping down on other things. I mean.. historically. maybe these will be the first people to buck the trend, lol. easily manageable with a filter, or my before suggested 'games likes this' which will already segregate them so people who want to play with the variations can, and others aren't bothered with them.

That Holodeck thing looks like a total fail based on the video. Unless you walk like a really old man shuffling around with really short steps, I don't see it being useful. How does it keep you on the mat? I saw a clip where the person stopped and they were still rolling backwards. I can't see being able to run on it at all. Maybe if the mat covered an entire floor in a room, but unless there's a way to keep you from rolling into walls or other people it's not going to work.
