@@grenade_guy Cody beat an out of prime Dom that has sustained a lot of major injuries over his prestigious career. Urijah Faber faced Cruz at his best, Cruz was almost ready to hang the gloves up when he faced Cody and the last few fights. Dom always fought based on great timing but once he lost a step he started getting caught by shots he would usually slip most of his career.

I came back to rewatch this fight only to see if I was mistaken in how I remembered it but I wasn’t.. TJ literally threw the same exact punch 3 times in a row as Cody was swinging wildly and dropped him with it. For all Cody’s physical abilities he lacks fight IQ

I love the look of shock and confusion on the face of Garbrandt after Herb Dean literally saved him from permanent brain death.
@hr7055 Жыл бұрын
Stoppage was poorly timed by Herb, he should have let it continue for a few more seconds at that point, given what he saw him weather and work up through (evidence of him NOT caring about fighters' health).

@NeoAndersonChannel12 жыл бұрын
And Cody had pillow hands during that sequence. His punches looked like they had no power at all
@ARR4092 жыл бұрын
@@Trashytrash1118 His style was meant to beat Cruz and Cruz only. Dominick would not have thrown 3 right hooks in a row and would have moved out of range laterally. If TJ did that then Cody would be ready to hit him. Cody is good at catching guys who move out of the pocket like Cruz. He isn’t good at trading and defending mid combo like TJ who actually has boxing fundamentals and better footwork, head movement and combos. Since Cody’s fight IQ was actually his coaches’ he couldn’t possible think of a way to defend against it himself.
@downfromthereeefters2 жыл бұрын
Taking those three consecutive overhand rights from TJ is probably what cracked Cody’s chin. TJ did to Cody what he did to Renan. Cracked that chin and they were never ever the same.

Yeah Joe does go way too deep on the DMT train sometimes. Are we forgetting Dominick Cruz, who also happened to beat Dillasnake? @J1283-s1k2 жыл бұрын
@@extreame7304 I do like Bisping and DC's energy and enthusiasm but I can't lie, there's been a few really noticeably dreadful commentaries by them, that have stuck out with me. Regardless of how you felt about the Santos-Shevchenko fight, that was absolutely unbearable listening to DC and Bisping's bias against Valentina the moment they knew it was a closer fight than usual. It was entirely emotion driven and they let that run their narrative from the end of round 1 to the rest of the fight. I'd imagine it's hard to avoid that when you're a fan and having to commentate but they need to do much better than that. DC was the absolute worst for me with Volk-Holloway 1 and Poirier-Gaethje. Those were simply appalling, unacceptably biased to the literal obvious right in front of him.

@Snowballbabe79032 жыл бұрын
@Twill120301 I 💯% completely agree. I'll admit whenever Cody fought and won against Dominick Cruz I that he had some potential. That's just MMA for you. It could be one of the top fighters everybody's expecting to win and the other fighter not having a chance, to him winning. To watch Cody vs. Dominick fight that was 6 yrs ago until now Cody's a completely different fighter. Unfortunately Cody never cared about developing his fighting IQ. I remember watching Cody and TJ dillashaws coaches season of the ultimate fighter and Cody even making a comment he basically it doesn't matter about a fight IQ then proceeds to make a fist saying whenever you got this.
@Snowballbabe79032 жыл бұрын
@@CJ-vq5tg yes! For one lucky night he won against Dominick Cruz. If they'd have a rematch Dominick would win. It just wasn't Dominick's night. Just look at Adesanya vs Pereira, or Usman vs. Edwards. It's so disappointing because Cody had the advantage in power, speed, seemingly precision, while 'I just wanted to be a role model' Needleshaw had the edge in cardio and I can only assume chin given, Cody's track record (although it's a wonder if it isn't simply now down to accumulation of being tagged so relentlessly across his last 5-6 fights?). But he simply let his emotions get the best of him, would swing constant bombs with 110% aggression, always running in head first just throwing punches with little regard to using his guard or his (at times, e.g. the Cruz fight) phenomenal head movement and then the moment he got clipped, he'd double down on this while he was groggy and off balance, never giving himself a moment to recover. These two are the fights I really wish Cody would have won, even if he then went on a 5-6 fight downslope. But to lose decisively against Disloyal Dillasnake twice? For it to be the CEO of EPO who sent him crashing on the downslide, markedly chinless since? That's particularly brutal and sad to watch.

@ARR4092 жыл бұрын
Dude. That is flat out wrong. Cody for sure hits a little harder. But TJ has way better boxing fundamentals, technique, precision and speed. Cody only has fast hooks and a style tailor made to beat Dominick Cruz which was crafted by his coaches and not him. Cody has horrible fight IQ since all his tactics are his coaches. TJ just exposed how overrated Cody’s defense and footwork really were. I don’t like TJ but he’d beat Cody off the juice as well.
