This is great advice. I was told something similar recently in a lesson and I was floored. I’ve been a master at building massive lag, so much that I’d come in basically on top of the ball. And the divots, massive. This technique is something I’ve been working in my game for the last 2-3 months and it’s been revolutionary for me. Keep it up Larry.

I really like the way you demonstrate the arm and body structure throughout the swing. It gives me images I try to implement myself, of how the golf swing works. Going ulnar early in the downswing, first of all as a feeling, is one of the elements that has helped me most. Thanks!

Tried downhinge today and it works and feels great overall. Some iron shots seemed piercing but landed shorter than my previous more vertical swing. Some mid iron shots reached higher apex and resulted in shorter distance. I then tried covering the ball more and applying more shaft lean... but the bigger/better result was from thrusting/snapping my trail arm to full extension right before impact; noticed about 50yd gain on driver and 15-20yd gain w/ 7 iron. Will see if I can replicate tmrw.

This move has really improved my compression - I was pulling down with too much radial deviation causing a cup wrist with my strong grip. This also has helped my width in the downswing - great tip!

Larry these are great short videos.. I see most of your instruction encourages in to out path for a draw, how do these same sequences translate into hitting fades?
@LarryCheungGolf
@LarryCheungGolf 3 жыл бұрын
you can still hit fades with the sequence i talk about, jut some minor adjustments with how the arm/hand/club structure will be moved through the ball =)

At first, I thought I would lose club head speed, but you don’t. Love the modern swing!

Hey Larry, first thank you! With strictly your online lessons I’ve applied most of them to my game and you alone have drastically improved my ball striking and consistency. My new issue is once my wrists are down hinged they feel “locked” and my swing speed is really slow. There is not a significant amount of whip in the club, relative to the hand speed, do you have a feel or focus that can ensure we’ve passed those checkpoints still with adequate release of the club?

Larry - is the down hinge the same thing as ulnar deviation?
@LarryCheungGolf

yes its in that same motion =)

This is the topic I keep searching for. Would it be possible to show with full swings (real speed and slow mo) the difference between rolling and your modern release? As from impact it seems the modern release does roll over significantly (not saying its over rotation). I feel when ams like me hear rolling is bad, we end up slicing, weak contact or even hurting our wrists trying to square the club with no wrist/forearm rotation. Thanks Larry!

no, because it doesnt matter that late into the golf swing/follow through, If i made a video like that, people would try to chase that look at that point in the golf swing but it doesn't work like that =)

@@LarryCheungGolf I am referring to the phase - impact to shaft parallel to ground or before that when both arms are straight. Perhaps you thought I was referring to the finish.

@@77bovi I am aware of the portion of the swing you are talking about, which is why I answered what I answered, I did not think you were referring to the finish =)

Just curious, how would this change if you wanted to hit a cut? Do you tell your students to make the same move and just try to change swing path more left?
@LarryCheungGolf

depends on the player =)

Just so I am clear on this point, are you saying you like to think about down-hinging early because in practice that results in the release just prior to impact?
@LarryCheungGolf
@LarryCheungGolf 3 жыл бұрын
if you try to downhinge early, it will likely help you release at the correct part of the golf swing in full speed =)

Excellent advice. 👍👍👍 A study of the swings of elite players shows that they make a conscious effort to get their wrists into a position of Ulnar Deviation as early as possible.

What about someone who plays a strong grip with a square to closed face? Same release?
@LarryCheungGolf
@LarryCheungGolf 3 жыл бұрын
yes, maybe minus the rolling part to square the face, you'll have to play around with it =P

I think the key lesson here is to keep your wrists loose - that way the downhinge will happen automatically. The less thoughts and 'trying' in the golf swing, the better.
