I started picking about three years ago and it is so much fun. Getting out of the house like you said and go looking. I did a WOO-HOO! In the woods when I found one and I was alone. Love your enthusiasm Larry.

@@LarrySmithOutdoors used to find them by the hundreds. Now I'm grateful for what i get. Property owners pass or move so I'm always looking in new places. This year I've found probably around 6 pounds of pheasant back and a handful of morels. We need rain in Ohio

I love the size, I hate to see people pick them when they are stubby 2 inchers. I will leave them to grow and sometimes they're gone when I go back in a few days. Usually they hide for me till I return, I get nice tender tasties. I also leave alot for the next guy. I think tht's a key to keeping a hot source. Mother nature loves to feed us. :)

I’m in the Chicago area . Had about 3/4 inch of rain over 3 days. Then 3 days of just clouds, temps were 45 at night and 55-60 during the day. Today, day 7 after it began raining it is sunny and 60. I went to look for any mushrooms at all thinking that all the rain in the beginning of the week was gonna cause some mushrooms to grow. Am I too early ? Is thst not enough rain ? Should I look elsewhere ?
@LarrySmithOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I like it when it has hit upper 50's at least at night and 70s-80's during the day for a week or 2. The ground needs to be around 50 degrees.

Thanks Steffen Outdoors! Elm trees seems to work best around here. How do you like to cook your morels?
@steffenoutdoorswi3 жыл бұрын
I usually sauté them with a light coating of flour on them. Very tasty. I have as much luck around white pine and box elder as I do around Elm, more even. Odd maybe but that’s where I find them.
