Apologies for the Heath Robinson edit at the start and finish. In Part 2 I show the replacement and summarise my thoughts on the knife and Casström despite my experience with the first knife. Thanks for watching and Hvis set skader ingen jor har du wil. EDIT New Casström has been excellent no issues. Full report from Casström and I am very happy.*

Adventure Outdoors UK, I am impressed by your ability to talk of your disappointing subjective experience in such a pragmatic and un-biased way. You have sought to understand the issue with this particular knife and involve to Casstrom in coming up with a solution that benefits both parties. I like the disclaimer leaflet they include within the package simply stating that it is incumbent on the knife user to respect their tool and use it for what is intended for. My dad and his forebears were true woods craftsmen (carpenters and ship builders) and I was a wooden boat builder straight out of school, albeit briefly. I recall the tradition of wood workers was to chastise apprentices who did not use and care effectively for tools ("a clip around the ear"). Knives are not axes, nor are they cold chisels or crowbars. I get sick of seeing videos of pre-pubescent wannabe woodsmen smirking about wrecking decent and often expensive knives and axes. The Lars Falt Knife has the name of a true outdoorsman on it and I am sure Lars would not put his name on mass-produced, inferior products. I do not need another knife, but I would be happy to invest in this one, I am sure it will give you and your descendants years of pleasure and service. Oh yeah, THANK YOU for the shout out and positive comments. Are you planning to develop your channel and what themes would you be interested in. All the Best, WS

Woodsman Spirit - Thanks for your response, I must say there are a few you tubers that need a clip round the ear. There seems to be a 'fashion' , perpetuated on You Tube of abusing knives in particular and destruction testing. I take pride in my equipment even the cheap aluminium frying that recently passed away on a camp fire at 11yrs of age!! We used to make our belongings last, and we used to make do with what we had. I have no great ambitions to grow the channel, however I do intend to upload some content as often as possible. I'm quite philosophical and like the idea of stimulating conversion and sharing with the outdoors community. So some videos will be discussions by the campfire, others may be sharing an experience or trying my hand at something. I like to carve and whittle so I may upload those projects. I'll probably film some basic equipment maintenance and so on. I like the conversation that follows and learning from like minded folk as well as sharing a common interest. We'll see how it progresses naturally. The next upload will probably be a final thoughts video as I use the Casström in the field just to wrap that mini series up. I appreciate your subscriptions and responses and look forward to sharing something outdoors.

Adventure Outdoors UK, thanks for sharing your ideas for the future of your Channel. I believe all KZbin Channels have a moral and ethical responsibility to release well balanced and respectful information that is educational. I don't subscribe to a lot of Channels, but take time to see what they are about and how well they respect their subscribers. I look forward to following your contributions. I released my first KZbin video in 9 months last night and hope you enjoy it. Best Wishes WS (Chris)

It's interesting how much your dad's trade can influence you in your attitude towards things like your choice of tools and how you treat them. My dad was an electrician so there were thin bladed knives like Opinels available (I'm sure there used to be British companies that made Opinel type knives) and lots of hook bladed knives. Still use mostly thin bladed knives and have yet to break one (unless it arrived not quite right). No, I fail to see how you are learning to get the most from your knife by destroying it.

I'm glad you had a happy outcome to the chipping problem. I have the same knife and I was a bit concerned when I watched your first video. I then happened on a video by Murray Carter as to how chips occurred in knives and I now understand a bit more about the factors contributory to chipping. I note that you've stopped your knife which will impart sharpness as well as conditioning the blade for use. I intend to sharpen and strop my knife before I venture out which will create a slight convex profile to the blade and that should also help. Like you, I don't believe in batoning with a knife as a hand axe does a much better job - horses for courses!! Good video and I look forward to updates on how you're getting in with the knife.

Thanks for your comment Dafydd. I hope you get many happy years from your blade. So far the replacement knife has been faultless and is a pleasure to use. I'm really tempted to pick up the Casström No10 Forest Knife at some point, as it is more compact. I handled it at the bushcraft show and despite appearances it felt great. Good Luck.

Excellent video my friend,im very impressed with your honesty,I'm sorry to hear of the problem with the Casstrom knife, chipping and rolling on a good quality knife is not acceptable.I'm a Scandi knives fan big collection eg. Helle,Mora,Martini, eka and just the one Fallkniven knife and a couple of Buck,Boker knives.I use the Mora Garberg knife for hunting and fishing and camping. Now I was going to purchase the Lars Felt knife, would you still recommend it.Was it a heat treat problem or something wrong with the grind on the blade.Stay safe.👍

Hi mate. Nice vids thanks for showing 👍 Have you thought about looking at the Casstrom No10 SFK ? It is slightly smaller than the Lars Falt, [its a similar size to the mora], I have both the SFK and the Lars Falt and love them both,. ........ The SFK is available in assorted materials for the scales, I have the Bubinga wood handle and think it’s beautiful. With the Lars Falt you get the curly Burch and that’s it. ....... I find the smaller knife carves better than the Lars Falt but for someone with large hands it might be a tad too small, [i have normal size hands and consider the SFK as a minimum size that I would find comfortable] for extended use durations] When you 1st pick it up the handle feels too small and odd but the more you use it the more it feels right. ....... For someone like yourself who lets the axe do the hard work and then use the knife for the final touch the smaller SFK might be just up your street. 😀

Hi Rob thanks for the advice there. I did look at the SFK at the time, it appears very similar in size and geometry as the bushcraft black (which is an outstanding knife). I no longer have a need for additional knives and am happy with the options I own. Good Luck and thanks for your comment.
