Lars Fält is a top tier Survival expert and if he doesn't know what a Survival knife should be, well who does.

Me as well, waffling about it, then took the swing!! Can't wait for it to come in. Been using the BPS bushcraft knife and can't really complain, just wanted something worth abit more & longer lasting

Appreciate your video, thank you. I went straight-away to look at the price difference from LT and there really isn't any here in America.

Surprised by this review, my information is that the tang on this knife is heavily skeletonised? Maybe you know differently??
@eagleridge1972
@eagleridge1972 3 ай бұрын
You are correct it is indeed very much skeletonised, and I generally shy away from such constriction but in fairness it gas stood up well

I just found your channel. Very interesting opinion on knives sir! When I worked with Lars Fält he used a very different knife back then. I always thought, when he’d design a knife it’ll be more like the one he always uses. This knife looks much more like a Woodlore profile.

So what did his knife look like "back then"???
@max_fjellstorm
@max_fjellstorm Жыл бұрын
@@EssexCountyPhoto so back then it’s been quite cold and I didn’t had much food but I remember he whore it on a belt on the outside of his anorak. It had a blade of that was like 11cm long and flat grind not scandi! It had a dark birch handle. Basically a Fällkniven f1 but maybe it’s been the prototype or so it’s been quite a few years. If you have more questions just ask I’ll do my best to awnser

After our recent conversation I want someone to x-ray one of these. I sent Casstrom a message etc, but never heard back. The new Ray Mears knives have skeletonizing, but I doubt the old Alan Wood variation didn’t because they were hand made and skeletonizing wasn’t a thing then. I don’t like it as you know.

'in a survival situation I would try to avoid this' ➡️ 👍words of wisdom! Even in a normal situation I would avoid batoning through knots! Why would I waste the energy and risk my tools? Selecting a suitable piece should be step one! Granted, if the only wood I can find has knots, I would have to use what I have..

I do like the fact that he points out that, when testing a knife, it should be tested for stresses ABOVE what he would expect form normal use. Most devices are stress tested to as much as 130% of claimed specifications. This ensure quality of use within standard parameters. If something is going to fail on me, I want that to happen during testing. Destruction tests seem to some to be a waste but there is still something of value to be learned if the test remains realistic.

@@williammoore4380 I agree 100%. My statement tries to reflect that in a 'survival situation', if you have the choice, you should take the most conservative approach to tool use. In a test situation, you assure yourself, that the tool is good enough. But you also have to take into account, that over-testing (too often or too hard) can lead to hidden weakness in the materials, that then may cause nasty surprises!

Funny thing is I’m 53 was a Boy Scout then a army Ranger. I’ve been to many survival courses over the years. In all those years all over America from mountains to Florida swamps then out to Utahs high desert. I’ve never found a need to baton. I see it’s a good way to test a knife. But in real life it’s not needed. Some how KZbin as a way of making something crazy seem important. I don’t understand the sharp spine for a ferro rod when every rod comes with a striker. An believe it or not I carry a lighter and matches. Don’t need a bowl in my handle. But hey what do I know after more then 30years .
