Wow a blast from the past. I had a Laser Scope. My mom bought it for me from a discount bin. I wish I could remember where. I know it's from a store that hasn't been around in decades. I never had Laser Invasion. I used to play with it on Duck Hunt and this other light gun game called Mechanized Attack, which I recall being a lot of fun. As a kid I remember the Laser Scope being pretty cool. I do remember using it quite a bit and sometimes just using it as headphones. I can't recall if it ever fully replaced the Zapper for me

That was one creative way to prolong the NES, which was 6 years old at that point.

The game wasn’t very memorable but the Laser Scope.... I think it worked on other light gun games but the thing I remember most is how it would fire twice when you said “fire”, if at all. So when I had one (bought it on clearance maybe a year after it came out) I’d have to shout “Fu” or “Bu” to get a single accurate shot off. I could only imagine what my parents thought when I’d use it 🤔

So it's basically a frankensteined combination of top gun, operation wolf, and wizardry: proving grounds of the mad overlord (but with shooting instead of random turn based encounters). It gets points for being ambitious in its scope I suppose.

@@MCastleberry1980 Sid Meier said the same thing; he was disappointed with how Covert Action turned out for that reason. But I think it's a matter of taste and design too. I like Covert Action well enough and *love* Pirates.

Another Konami game that mixes three different styles of gameplay, similar to Bayou Billy (which I actually like). Also, another Konami game that uses the Top Gun formula and recycles the same gameplay, sound effects and even graphics from Top Gun 1 & 2, as if having those two games wasn't enough already. So I guess I'll skip this one, even though I normally like variety in games

Never played it as a kid back in the day but picked up a copy and beat it about a year ago. It’s a pretty good game I think. Tough as nails, but beatable. I used a standard controller, no laser scope or zapper. I think using the controller is far & away the easiest way to play this game.

Wait, you mean the Laser Scope was actually released?! I had seen something about it in Nintendo Power at one point and had been curious about it, but I never saw it again after that. I must have missed any advertisements or just not seen it in stores around that time. Perhaps the fact that it appears to have come out right after the SNES debuted had something to do with that? I can't speak for anyone else, but I largely began ignoring much of what was going on with the NES once the SNES came out, and especially once I owned one. Oh well, guess I missed out. But thanks for the great video and stay safe out there!

i just like to point out , i was a fan of the top gun games, and this just made me happy, one stage looked like top gun , the other like a better op wolf and the last like that golgo 13 levels, and all i can say, the graphics were awesome for the time and had that konami look to it, never had the lazer scope and i hated the zapper, so it was the pad for me, also, huge fan of bayou billy, so i wished they had a beatemup stage in this for a weird reason....and yes, i had the japanese version for reasons that most people would frown upon, there was a company calles NAZA that made nes clones and nes clone carts, while the nes games were $60 and up, all naza games were $20 but with one catch, they were based on the famicom version....but for $20 a game, it was cool, since even renting an nes game back then was $10 the weekend.

I've always considered this to be like the 3rd game in the Nes Top Gun series even though it has nothing to do with it. I wonder if this was originally developed to be Top Gun 3 but they lost the rights.

interesting, I have never heard of this one, nor did I know such a headset device existed for the NES. Which is fine, I am sure the dumb thing would've just frustrated me anyway. North and South and Robin Hood PoT are two examples of NES games that got 'variety of play modes in the same game' right, IMO. Great video as always FNA!! I like the "this is a game...you can play...in your nintendo..." comment, hilarious

Wait wait wait...similar to Top Gun? Yeah that's the same engine they just moved stuff around a little bit. I had Top Gun when I was a kid and pretty much hated it since I could never beat it. I can see why this game was forgotten. Anyone still rocking an NES in 1991 had probably seen, played it owned Top Gun and knew better than buy this turd.

@@Pingwn I agree with you completely here. This game isn't a Mario title, it's not Contra, Ninja Gaiden or even a second tier game. This isn't a game people are clamoring to play hence the "lost game" moniker and it works. I'm a collector and had no idea this existed (game not peripheral).
