That is a great work!!! I need a laser that would measure the inner diameter of a non accessible inground pipes that i would fix at the end of a pole stick. Let me know if it could be possible. Of course it would be manually manipulated so it wouldnt be static. Maybe an average diameter would help knowing that the pipes diameter are standards ranged manufactured.

Nice point clouds! I was impressed at how closely they lined up in that demo: even faking it that well would be difficult. I'm sure there is some room for improvement via models of uncertainty in the motion control system, but it's probably a huge amount of work relative to what you've got thus far, and the only real benefit would be getting better models "in camera", so to speak. The repeat stop is working far, far better than I would've expected. (Also: the single most precarious example of "You can never have too many clamps" I've seen. Lots of delicate, valuable equipment clamped to big heavy things, four feet above a concrete floor, and moving. Bit of pucker factor on that one for me: in my shop, that would invariable wind up wiggling the base clamp loose while the setup is fully cantilevered, and I'd have to find all the optics pieces with a broom…)

Looks nice! Wouldn't it be better to rotate in phi first, and in theta second?

I'm not sure what the benefit would be, you're rotating more mass more often if you go that route. Troubleshooting seems more difficult as well.

Great work! And it seem your getting some usable results. Are laser distant finders out of the question because they just do a single point? It seems like if you could get one of those articulated and scanning it might not be that slow and you could technically get a 1mm resolution at 20m? Maybe even 30m? Or are you really after something more accurate?

Nice work. Although you should never attach mains-plugs to stuff that doesn't accept mains. Just an accident waiting to happen.

Great looking data! When using the SDK I’ve noticed I start to get data lag after about 15 minutes, and the lag keeps getting larger as if a buffer is overflowing. I’m scanning at 100hz, and the faster I scan the quicker the lag occurs. Have you noticed this?

Thanks. Not sure on the lag, I log the data coming in and view it later so lag is not obvious. I do sometimes watch the real-time web display during scans though, and haven't seen any lag in my 1 to 2 minute scans.
