Күн бұрын

For thousands of years, rumors have circulated about an entelodont the size of a large elephant wandering around Kairul, the eastern continent beyond the known world. Within the past century, Assembly naturalists have not only encountered the beast, they have learned quite a lot about this wandering god.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

The Knight and Squire mechanic is actually the most fascinating part of this- and honestly probably explains why the species is so successful. If even unrelated males will, sometimes, protect younger males, then MANY more males will make it to adulthood, which keeps the genus healthy.

@@sambeaumont4337 They're faster, but that sort of shepherd dog tactic is beyond their mental capabilities. It might happen accidentally, such as a faster juvenile happening to run prey coincidentally toward a slower bull, but it's certainly not something regularly planned or executed. The older bull is more experienced, so is doing most of the hunting effort.

What a awe-inspiring creature. Reminds me of being in the Natural History Museum in London, in the Mammal gallery, under the giant model blue whale there is a display explaining how land mammals have to change their anatomy when they grow larger, by showing how if you scaled a warthog up the elephant, it wouldn't be able to stand.

I loved the bokodu since you introduced them in an older episode (I don't remember which one, exactly). They are a very cool concept, that feels so unique too. Great creepy intro and love the knight and squire dynamic (maybe there’s a pair out there called don Quixote and Sancho and knocked down a windmill). I’d be very curious to see more about how megatheropod young survive in kaimere’S mesopredator dense ecology. I know that many real life theropods had extreme ontogeny to prevent competition with their own young, and I know that uktan are k selected dedicated parents, but I don’t know how the young of komu or tika get around such intense competition with dromaeosaurs and mammalian mesopredators
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Komu youngsters retain their talons until about a ton, so are basically Utahraptors. Tikakatik compete with crocodiles, but crocs actually make up a decent percentage of their diet, as their strong jaws and serrated teeth are good at opening up armored prey.

Having an entelodont mimic your voice would be pretty unnerving, even if you happen to be friends with one, though I’m guessing that would reduce the chance of being viewed as a food item. I’m imagining a situation where a patrol gets really confused of why this land hippo is loudly yelling for help, before they see it’s injured charge, who’s hopefully lucid enough to explain the situation.

Was actually inspired by the leucrotta I ran in a dnd game back in high school (and by extension its mythical counterpart and that described by Pliny the Elder), but the same basic principle! I definitely enjoyed that movie and although I don't think the bear was a reference to the leucrotta/leucrocotta, it was quite similar. Pliny's description of the leucrocotta is what inspired the na'hashet: "The swiftest of all beasts, about the size of an ass, with a stag's haunches, a lion's neck, tail and breast, badger's head, cloven hoof, mouth opening right back to the ears, and ridges of bone in place of rows of teeth-this animal is reported to imitate the voices of human beings." -Pliny the Elder

The picture at 11:10 and 15:22 (and made by andy_ivanov7) is quite representative of the Uktan and others Megaraptoran biggest weakness. If a specimen lost one of his arm/hand or lost the way to move it after it break, he will have more difficulties to kill and to eat, and likely to die of starvation ! (since their bite are weak and primarily used to grap and retain preys). Especially in the biggest species who must eat a lot of food to subtain themselves. This specific Uktan is good for a entire and forever scavenging life at maximum. A good reminder for them that they maybe win a battle and became the dominant apex predators, but that the ones they defeated can strike back and hit them hard at any moment !

I remind myself that you did on Facebook a black and white picture of a Knight and Squire Bokodu you post the 29 december 2022. Since it take the old Bokodu design who is now an ancestor species of him, she could not be used in this video for the Bokodu. However, can it be reused as a scene depiction of justly the ancetral species of the Bokodu, and showing that this Knight and Squire relationship already existed in this ancestral species at the time of the Megaraptoran arival on kairul, and be one of the predispositions that lead to this single ancetral species to survived this arrival while the others giants entelodont of the same cade became extinct because they haven't this relationship ? That would made sens and give more complexity to the species and this relationship's History, and not made this relationship just an behaviro edits that occured in response to the Megaraptorans in the same time and after the arrival of these latter on kairul (which would be very generic thing). No ?

Considering the size of kairul, it would be illogical to try to fit it all in one video. By the way, what other creatures would have been encountered by the expedition in the beginning?
@TalesofKaimere

Yeah Kairul would at least need to be broken into three parts (western and eastern 'node' and the equatorial expanse between). They would have encountered all the animals met in the short story Grandmother's Roots, so lots of crocodiles, camelids, small dinosaurs, stuff like that. Not a ton of terrestrial megafauna on that arid stretch of coast.

Ever since i found your channel back in September every new upload has been nothing but quality all the way through and i am *so* here for it I wasnt even expecting anything this week, but glad to see Kaimere is still developing! The music choice fits the Bokodu so well, and this redesign is so unbelievably solid. The knight and squire relationship sounds really interesting, and i really hope the xenofiction short story makes it into Whispers Beyond the Known World! Also sidenote: i never even considered the fact Bokodu could use mimicry like the Na'Hashet but it makes so much sense! Amazing work as always!

in one of his previous videos he mentioned that their bites can rival those of tyrannosaurs and, depending on species or who you ask, those could probably range anywhere from 3,000 to almost 13,000 psi, maybe more, so my guess would be somewhere in that admittedly wide range.
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Like Douglas said, probably in the lower range estimates of T. rex. While their skull is of a similar size, and the lower jaw has crazy attachment points so may actually be stronger in the chewing motion, having a large brain and needing to minimize overheating, the fast snapping motion useful in predation is a bit weaker. This means they're incredible scavengers, and if they can position prey to be chewed they can be devastating, but they lack the quick bone-breaking snap of a tyrant.

@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Thanks! 1. Ghlanos and koga are both prey, though certainly not easy meals. They need to be wary of the other two, especially tikakatik with substantial armor and bites that can reliably cut their hide, but they and other giant non-megaraptoran predators tend to have an avoidance policy rather than throwing down. 2. Mostly just made the tail long-haired to deal with insects, enhanced the fat stores on the shoulder, and gave the hide a pebbled texture. The biggest difference is really just in how I've improved as an artist and that I wasn't making up the anatomy for a first draft like I was the first time around. It's not much different in its design.

For the ones who are a little deceived that the first/old Bokodu's design isn't used no more as the normal/current standard design for the species, Keenan have however repurposed it as a direct ancestor (of course extinct since then) of the Bokodu itself ! Know, that represent a species that lived before and in the same time that the Uktan's lineage arrival on Kairul, and the only giant entelodont species that have survived the Robust clade Megaraptoran's arrival on Kairul, and who gived the Bokodu as a descendant. Like the Tikakatik abelisaur and Komu Ba Kawe eudromaeosaur, the Bokodu is the only remaining representant of the giant clade of the family left alive by the Megaraptorans. Entelodons, abelisaurid and Eudromaeosaurid/Cockatrices are diverses and numerous and Kairul, but the Giants clades of each only have one representative know. The latter were the main victims of the Megaraptoran arrival and composed most of the extinction fauna that occured in kairul at the time these latter arrived from Arvel/Ni'Khar.

I love the Knight and squire behavior in this species. It gives them a dynamic that feels like an evolutionary advantage in development and something that could lead to a change in the dynamic of their chosen environment. I'm thinking this could wind up being a behavioral dynamic that becomes a linchpin of a species rising sucess that allows a mammalian group to challenge the Megarapyorans where you have an almost fudal system of ancient king bulls able to call their former squires now knights in their own rite to drive the dangerous dinosaurs out of their aria providing a safer and thus more survivable aria.

One thing I was curious about was the logistics of nursing, as calves seem far too short to nurse from a standing position like most modern large ungulates (like elephants and giraffes). Does that mean the sows would lie down more like swine to nurse their young?
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
That's a very good point a couple folks have now made that I'll freely admit I had not considered! Might need to make the calf's neck longer and perhaps longer legs, as forcing the mom to lie down would make her very vulnerable and slouching quite exhausting. Maybe they could kneel, but again, a compromised position.

Again, sorry for the long comments but I have to many questions and thoughts. 1.Give me a that story about a knight and squire, RIGHT KNOW!(Old Sport *fnaf jumpscare* ) 2.Would a boar try a ghlanos? Adding to that free for all between Ghlanos, Uktan, and Bokodu who wins?(all males in their prime) 3. Were giant entelodonts morep common in the past 4. Captions:*intellidons* also no indricotheres😞 5. Voice mimicking entelodonts! Mr Taylor where do you get your ideas from Rakia Hogs(land hippos in the common tounge) are viewed in a variety of ways smaller species are essentially pig roaches stole that from stocky, medium sized animals make common familiars and one family has even been domesticated and in the wild they love to follow carcharodontosaurs for the bone left behind on titan kills and the largest, surprisingly, intergrate well into super rhino herds.

@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
1. haha working on it! The only reason it might not appear in the next anthology is I have too many things I want to do with it and the synopsis is quickly becoming too big for even a novella lol 2. Yes, but they usually won't try to tackle a stallion unless desperate. The bokodu will probably win, but a ghlanos's half-meter claws are no joke and the chances of a few deep punctures like that getting infected means it's not something he'll try without need. Uktan aren't as prone to throw down as the other two, being a dedicated predator they like to pick fights they know they can win, but having almost daily fighting to get dinner means they're pretty experienced. I still think the bokodu wins in a 3-way royal, but both foes have a solid chance of winning. 3. Yes, there were a couple species in the family Carnopachydermidae before the megaraptorans came along and hunted them down to the biggest wanderer. 4. Yeah they never had a chance RIP. 5. That one I can't claim originality from: I basically ripped off the leucrotta from Ethiopian folklore/Pliny the Elder. I dig it!

Keenan Taylor drops peak, waits a year to explain it, and drops peak. 1. How is the Bokodu able to dedicate energy to voice mimicry? Is it basal in their clade? 2. Are there any unique Kairulian giants they hunt besides the Koga? 3. What's the secret sauce that makes Bokodu so effective against Monarchs at that size?

Thank you! 1. Yes it is basal to the family. The magnajavalinids have a high vocal range, but the cursusids and bokodu have it far more sophisticated. 2. Nice single animal video of an animal outside the Known World after the chimpanzee. Some questions: 1. Were the giant taros present with the giant abelisaurs, dromaeosaurs, and entelodonts during the Warring Clades Period before Arveltih megaraptorans took over? If so, how did giant taros niche partition with the giant abelisaurs, dromaeosaurs, and entelodonts? 2. Do juvenile bokodu have different niches than adults? 3. 10:17 That's around the size of an average palaeoloxodon antiquus! Speaking of which, what would happen if a bokodu were to encounter a paraceratherium (or palaeoloxodon)?
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
1. Not in Kairul, that niche was taken by cursorial abelisaurids. 2. Sort of. Still omnivores, but by virtue of size browse on lower plants and hunt smaller prey. 3. Yes indeed! Not on the scale of Paraceratherium and the (admittedly dubious) largest specimen of P. namadicus, but quite a massive beast. They might try to tackle them, but perhaps unlikely since they're reluctant to take on a ghlanos stallion which weighs half as much as a Paraceratherium.
