Trang Nguyen, a Vietnamese wildlife conservationist, director of WildAct, a local charity NGO working to end wildlife exploitation, gives an account of the struggle wildlife conservationists and forest rangers around the world have in order to save rhino, elephant and other widllife from the illegal trade and consumption. From the story of the last northern wild rhino Sudan, to the story of the rangers who are risking their lives at the front line, Trang also told her own story of how a small Vietnamese girl became so passionate in wildlife conservation, and how that passion have taken her all around the world to fight for the wild. She called for people to join hands to end wildlife crimes. Trang Nguyen is a wildlife conservationist and research scientist. She is also a founder and director of a Vietnamese NGO called WildAct. Currently she is working closely with the polices and anti-poaching units in Africa, as well as authorities in Asia to map out the illegal wildlife trade between these two continents. In 2014, she was immortalized as an online game character to raise awareness about the African rhino crisis and drew more than 2 millions players to the plight of rhino conservation within the first two weeks of the game launch. In 2018, Trang was awarded as one of the three winners of Future for Nature Award - a well-respected award for wildlife conservationists across the globe. She was also awarded as one of the 30 young influential people under 30 years old by Forbes Vietnam. She published her book "Back to the wilderness" about her works on the wildlife crime in Asia and Africa. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

to all the Vietnamese in the comment section: this was a great video, but without your help we cannot do much. If you spend five to ten minutes a day spreading awareness of the fake rescue animal videos that are so popular in Vietnam, you too can say you have done something more than watching a Ted Talk and then moving on to the next video. Report those scammers. Help us make Vietnam a beautiful nation!

Your speech is the best Ted-talk amongst Vietnamese to me that I've seen so far. As a Vietnamese woman, I find many other speeches are a little "lacking in truth". I don't mean what they said is not correct, but I feel they are exaggerating the societal challenges in Vietnam too much to make their speeches become stories that they think people want to hear rather than the reality of life in Vietnam.

Hi Trang, I knew you for years as one of my FB friends, but this is the first time I hear you talk about your mission, wildlife conservation. That's incredible. You are such a real Ranger, and I feel so shame about what Vietnamese have done with rhino's horns. I hope that Asian people will no longer use illegal products for treating diseases in the future. In fact, instead of using those kinds of stuff, people can have healthy lives by consuming healthy food, doing exercises regularly and so on. Anyway, you are doing an amazing job! Please take care of your health, because of our planet need a Super Ranger like you. So much love!

Being a wildlife conservationist was my childhood dream. But I never had the determination you had to pursue this path. Your work is truly inspiring. You gave me a little hope today that we could stop this mass extinction. Thank you.

what you can do is report all those vietnamese fake animal rescue videos you can see on youtube. It doesn't take determination, only five minutes a day of your time. Thank you!

Chi Trang, I really like your talk and be inspired a lot! I wonder how to add subtitle in Vietnamese (or other Asian countries) to help local people who don't understand English to know and share this video to more people. Hope your work will be understood and encouraged more by people in our own country!

Why these attitudes and motivations not toward to the pigs, chickens, cows,...also??? They also have suffer pains, they did not do anything wrong, they are animals too??? You are doing actual true and amazing things, but some "bias" here. You are not still vegetarian! The vegetarians protect the wild animal, as well as the, environments.

I would suggest both of you to google "100 điều nhỏ nhặt tớ làm cho trái đất trong 100 ngày" to learn that just do 1 thing for the planet is not good enough - as there are hundreds, thousands different things that anyone can do. Being a vegetarian or vegan is not good enough. As at the end of the talk, I already said, every single choice you made of every single day, like what you choose to eat, how did you choose to go from one place to another, will have an impact on our environment. Eat less meat, less dairy, stop using single used plastic, choose renewable energy... loads of thing to do. The best way of encouraging people to do something, is to inspired and empowered them, not to drag them down. Lesson to learn for you two.

Her focus is not on the pain / cruelty suffered by domesticated animals, but, rather, on the danger of extinction of species in the wild / the irreversible destruction of nature. I applaud her focus!
