The problem I see with the context of the story is that it takes years to come to terms with considering forgiveness over what someone has done to you and for the devs to try to force you to do that in a 30 hour game is impossible. In order for you not to be impacted by the death of Joel, no the brutal beating and then death you would have to disconnect yourself with the character. It's almost like Neil deliberately forced you to see the world as Joel seen it until he let his guard down. (Those who were able to disconnect has a higher chance of survival than those who allow feelings to cloud decisions.) ←Something that I concluded from what Troy Baker said.

@@jofis1510 i dont appreciate someone taking a storie and butchering the characters. And have no sense of hope or silver lining. The fate bestowed to these characters written by druckmann was BACKWARDS. Ellie is pinned down and begging to not have her father killed. And shes the one who loses everything while that psycotic bitch sails off into the sunset with her revenge. Thats disgusting, and as for empathizing with Abby....whats the ONE THING that seperates a hero from a villian???.... REMORSE and when did you see Abby have flashbacks about murdering a man in front of his daughter after that same man saved your life....answer- NEVER, so there is no sympathy....i was forced to play as a monster. Imagine going to watch lethal Weapon 2 and Martin Riggs has his head bashed in and Danny Glover goes for revenge and half way you play as The south african diplomat that killed Mel Gibson. That is so fucked up....and the cherry on the cake for me was being LIED TOO....if druckmann had faith in his divisive game, and if he doesnt care about sales why lie to get me to spend 70 bucks. Just be honest and i would of said No Thank You....RESPECTFULLY. That is so dirty to me and then he tells fans they need therapy if they are emotionally invested in fictional characters. This game wasnt just disliked I HATED IT and the original was one of my ALL TIME favorite stories. In the fictional realm we dont need 100 percent realism, we need hope, and silver lining especiallly in todays world. The Last Of Us 2 should of been directed by Rob Zombie. Even on the back of the box it says expirience the CONSEQUENCES of Ellies vengence....WHY THE FUCK should ellie be expriencing these consequences instead of the evil bitch that took joel away from ellie in front of her eyes????? The consequences should of been for Abby as she learns how TOUGH Ellie is deep down and how much heart she has. As David pointed out in the original story. This was a HORRIBLE direction, HORRIBLY written, and what an ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE message for fans who DARED to fall in love with Joel and Ellie. Maybe its just me but ...i believe a product should be made for the consumer....it should NOT be made for the devs at Naughty Dog. As long as Druckmann is there i will no longer support that company.

The thing is that I truly believe that ellie had somewhat of a good ending theres a letter you find at the farm when you are with Dina and the baby. It's Jesse's parents saying that ellie and dina will always have a place in Jackson if they choose to come back home. And if you notice when ellie goes to santa barbara she was not wearing dina's bracelet but when she returns from santa barbara the camera zooms in on her fingers wich look almost completely healed we were focused on the fingers missing but looked completely passed the fact that now she is wearing the bracelet indicating that she has already been to Jackson and is living with Dina she just went back to the farm for the guitar but decided to leave it That represents her finally being able to accept Joel's death and bring an end to the cycle of revenge If you also notice when she enters the house she doesn't seem surprised that its empty and she doesn't call out dina's name, she doesent have her guns on her and she is wearing new clothes.

I only justify Joel bc they never told Ellie she was going to have give her life in order to develop a vaccine. Sorry but they could probably develop a vaccine for the Corona virus alot quicker but that would involve risking lives and that's not what society has come to yet. The death toll just isn't high enough to start sacrificing lives to save lives. So back to the correlation. Society is destroyed and the only way to get infected is to get bit or breath spores. Kill all the infected and sanitize the spores and society can rebuild. There's no other explanation as how ppl get infected other than that so eliminate that and there's no need to sacrifice Ellie.

Most of the people think that Abby should have been moved by Joel and Tommy saving her and feel bad for trying to kill Joel as consequence; but I think that's really arguable. Even if the man who killed my father helped me escape a though situation, I think I would still feel the pulse to murder him back with no rethinking. I guess it's just human to hate, love, seek revenge and/or forgiveness, have regrets. That's what I loved about the Last of Us part II: Naughty Dogs didn't make a game for us to enjoy, but a hurtful experience written to explain a little better our emotions and the fact that our world doesn't care for us, we're not main characters. And pain or death are certainty. Joel's death for another person's revenge is the most natural thing to happen, OF COURSE is not what we wanted: life rarely gives us what we want, isn't it? The story of this game has his highs and lows, but it's fuckin humanity at it's obvious worst and it's the best tale ever told in videogames.

Man, this is what I wanted to see (or well, more of it) in the 2nd part, because I knew there were going to be repercussions for their relationship following Joel's lie and I was expecting an emotional roller-coaster ride of a story between these two, yet with them still managing to reconcile in the end or at least before Joel died. I know that these issues are deep and require a lot of time and it's really sad that they weren't given that time (in the 2nd part of the game at least) to accomplish it before he was murdered. However, I know that in real life people are often snatched away in a blink of an eye. So... That does happen, yeah. The sad thing is, the Last of Us was like a ray of sunshine to me in a bleak and dark world, but the second part ended with a little too much sadness and brokenness. So, I'm not sure how I want to take this game...

I am not as sad as i was the first 4 days, but i still feel sadness nevertheless, i am not ready to take a break, i am even about to pop Part 1 back in again for the third time. I am sure that in three weeks i will say "ok, that's it, that's enough of these games...for two months anyways, it's time to get over it, it is just a game, another one is coming, take a break man", but until then, looking at Ellie's statue and...and...i'm just not ready to say "see ya in a few years" yet...

I actually felt that Ellie's strong reaction to Joel finally telling her the truth was a bit off; Given the ending of part 1 seems to indicate that Ellie already had a sense that Joel was lying to her to begin with. Ellie reacts as if she's completely blindsighted by Joel's confession which doesn't fall quite in line to Part 1's ending. It was just a bit odd to me watching it.

It was weird, but the way I see it, like you said, part of her always knew Joel lied to her, but she trusted him enough to do the right thing for her, that "Tell me the truth" To me was more of Ellie accepting the truth that she purposefully avoided, even though she knew, rather than blaming Joel. The way I see it, it's Ellie blaming herself rather than getting mad at Joel. Except for "You took that from me" Part

I think before she decided to live in denial despite knowing the truth deep down, because it was her only way to cope with the guilt and to keep that relationship with the only person close to family she had in her life. When there was no way she could live in denial anymore or escape the truth, because the evidence was then laid out in front of her, the weight of it all fell down on her. She couldn’t pretend anymore. And understanding the fact he’d genuinely lied to her all that time would have hurt so much, even if she kind of knew deep down beforehand. She didn’t want to believe it, and when you don’t want to believe something you often choose denial. When that’s not an option anymore there’s nothing left to do but face the truth and pain of what’s been done and what could have been if things were different.

I understand a lot of people didn’t like Joel’s died so early in the game but having him died actually made this game so amazing! His death actually gave Ellie a reason to go on such a dreadful journey and made her realize that vengeance can cost you everything! Which is what exactly happened in the end she came back finding Dina and jj is gone, she lost her mother’s knife and lost two fingers and can’t even play the guitar anymore which was the last string connected between her and Joel! Holy shit, the whole journey is pointless because it is not fulfilled for what we came for!! Agh, the first one has a shit story, isn't it? No, not at all... It's not that simple... The essence of the story is in the road untill the goal. On that road, you can understand the characters, their motivations, their feelings and other stuffs.. That's the point... Haha, what a joke, in the second there was no that, there was no interaction that makes you feel what you felt in the first, there is no story that you immerse yourself in wanting to advance, we wanted to advance to avenge Joel and we did not get even that, there's no purpose in that game, they only focused on Abby, she ended up being the protagonist, which sucks , it's disgusting how we were lied to in the face with fake trailers, with marketing that filled you with hype, that made you expect a great game with Joel and Ellie interacting after years, and what did we get? A ridiculous story, the stupid and unnecessary death of Joel after 2 hours of gameplay and flashbacks of Ellie being a shitty person with Joel, they maked the murderer of Joel the protagonist, the great character of the first game, and in the end not being able to avenge him at least to take away the bad taste in the mouth that his death left us? How disgusting and stupid that you compare a great game like the first one, with part 2

@@michaelnc2053 haha, I can't believe, you didn't understand anything about what I said.. If you compare a story to a football match, then the solution is same with both of the games, because a story isn't that simple.. That's the point... THAT'S WHAT I SAID! But you came here, you start to preach about the point of the first game, what I fucking know, you tell me your personal opinion about the Part 2 what not a global truth and call my comment disgusting, because you can't got it what I said and you take it as a personal attack against you.. WTF?? I just missed the "how dare you!" part from your text.. Anyway, you didn't understand anything about the second game and of course, you take as a personal attack, that they killed Joel and they showed something else in the trailers... You can't handle that the story is not like you thought, that's all... As lot of people, the only thing that you see in the story, that they didn't make an evil character from Abby, though it would have been simpler. Moreover, we had to play with her and walk in her shoes... And probably you think, that the game made her the good guy, and from Ellie they made the bad guy... But the truth is that Abby never been the good guy and Ellie never been the bad guy! They are humans! They can go wrong and they can make good decision too. They are not evils and they are not heros, it's not that simple. Joel wasn't a hero either... Abby isn't fine with what she did! Maybe she didn't apologize for it, but she still had nightmares after that, and she isn't proud of who she is, and what's more important, she knows that her father wouldn't be proud of who she became. It's in the game.. Ellie suffer from the loss and suffer from the compunction because she couldn't forgive to Joel. She steped to that path of forgivness but after that Abby immedietly took that from her. That's why she can't let go her revenge untill she realize in the very last moment (when she was seeing Joel in that memory) that to stick to the anger can't be worth it. she sticked to her anger for two years and when she thought that she can try forgive and let her anger go, she lost Joel and only left anger and the goal of this anger is to kill Abby. I don't think that she's the bad guy because of it. It's a natural human reaction for this trauma and a goal when there is nothing has any sense. Joel didn't deserve that kind of death and Abby didn't deserve death either. Abby and Ellie are on the same path, but different points of that path. In an alternate universe, this lineup may even be the opposite. The reason why the most of the people hate this game and call it shit, is that they don't want to look at things from multiple perspectives and they don't know anything about the psychology of revenge, just what tell about it the John Wick movies (and I can tell you, it's not like that). For example in RDR2 (I love that game anyway), there's an easy revenge story, what everyone can consume because Micah is an evil man and there is no doubt, that he deserved the death. This is an easy storytelling and what The Last of Us Part II do is the hard one and it's not for everyone. If you only see the start and the end of the games, both of them are pointless.. but if you see beneath the surface, you see the perfect psychological part, you see the motivations, you see the human beings in a dark world (their good side and the bad side) you see love, you see loss and many other things.. you just have to open your eyes! If you think that the story of the Part 2 is bullshit then I have to think, that you didn't play with it or you didn't understand anything from it after you finish it... Grow up if you can't handle that there are people, whose don't think as you.. I think both of the games are masterpeace... "How disgusting and stupid that you compare..." Holyshit, what's wrong with you, man??? It's just a game!!

Yet Joel doesn't ever defend himself once in part 2, just accepts he's the bad dude in the game and takes all the abuse without explaining his perfectly valid actions. This scene made no sense, and kind of ruins the ending to part 1. The way Ellie acts at the end of the first game is that she knows Joel is lying - but as long as he tells her the lie, she accepts it because she knows Joel couldn’t lose her. In Part 2 they act as if that never happened, and Ellie is suddenly growing distant from Joel because she’s blind sided by it. Literally makes no sense and shows how much part 2 was written to re-shape the original plot. The fact is, the brilliant thing about Part 1 is that Joel did a horrible act. But he did so out of survival because he couldn’t live with losing his daughter again. He would have killed him self. The game opens with the military killing his baby girl. Now society is asking to take his daughter all over again - and this time he’s not willing to let that happen. So he takes the selfish act to survive. In a world that is completely ruthless (even the fireflies were fine with murdering people for their cause), Joel condemned society the same way society’s institutions had condemned him in the beginning. Point being, we as an audience know he did something immoral and awful. Ellie knows this as well. But she accepts it because she loves Joel and understands he did what he did to survive. This scene really cheapens that. Part 2 also tries to over simplify things, and sell us on this idea that Joel is a really bad guy. Like even worse then most (in a Post apocalyptic world full of ravaging psychos). They do this, to justify what they did to him and it just feels so cheap. Yeah Joel is a bad guy, but everyone in that world is a bad guy.

But if Joel hadn't rescued and saved Ellie from death she and Dina wouldn't have met and became well a couple and have one another and Joel was accepting of Ellie and Dina and hoping for a relationship between Ellie and Dina and them being happy together so Joel was selfish in what he did but there would be no Ellie and Dina but there is.
