I am at a total loss to understand why flat earthers believe what they believe. Must be a total lack of critical thinking on their part. Many years ago I undertook a polar navigation exercise around the geographic South Pole. It necessitated grid navigation techniques as it was before VLF, inertial and GPS. We had to use a directional gyro which had to be corrected every 15 minutes due to gyroscopic precession. Magnetic compass useless because of magnetic dip being too close to the south magnetic pole. this comment isn't related to the video, other than the fact that it is something else flerfs can't explain: at least, specifically the flerfs that believe in the firmament. they always say in reality, you can't have gas pressure next to a vacuum, that the atmosphere should rush out and fill space. but, if there is a firmament, then the gases should've spread out evenly within the dome. why is there a gradient of gas pressures? if we're really living in a snow globe, the gas pressure would even out. relative density and buoyancy wouldn't give a gradient. they need to explain the gradient. this is one of the biggest evidences against a firmament at least, but also the flat earth fantasy imo. that and the ring laser gyro they bought that showed a 15º per hour drift. i don't think i've seen the flerfs even attempt to give a coherent explanation for the gradient, and i feel that needs to be hammered into them.
@ainhat.
@ainhat. 11 ай бұрын
But buoyancy would give a gradient since it is not just one gas different gases with different weights and don't forget temperature and weather also plays a role. I am not a flat earther but I cant wrap my head around the atmosphere existing in the midst of vacuum without a physical enclosure.

@ainhat. Think of it this way. Mass attracts mass. If there were no atmosphere and you got on top of a cliff and dropped a molecule of nitrogen, or helium, or oxygen etc., it would fall towards the surface at 9.8m/s^2 because gravity exists and the molecule has mass. It wouldn't get sucked off into space. But instead of 1 molecule, there are a bazillion of them, and they're all bound to earth because mass attracts mass. Maybe this thought experiment will help.
@ceejay0137
@ceejay0137 11 ай бұрын
@@david_akerman Sorry, you're wrong about what causes buoyancy. If you imagine a parcel of air of any shape, it's surrounded by the rest of the air. That surrounding air exerts a net upward force on the parcel which stops it falling under gravity. If you replace the original parcel of air with an object of the same shape, it will also experience the same upward force due to the surrounding air, which is equal to the weight of the original air parcel. This is Archimedes' Principle: an object immersed in any fluid medium experiences a loss in weight equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. If the object is lighter than the same volume of air (e.g. a balloon filled with helium) the upward force exceeds the downward pull of gravity and the object rises.

@@fepeerreview3150 I do know the air traffic control keeps track of the jet stream and tries to have flights to the west take advantage of them and flights to the east avoid them as much as possible. The last time we flew from Seattle to Asia we should have had a 2 hour stop-over in Seoul but the headwinds were so strong that it delayed our flight by 2 hours. After landing we were heading to the terminal and I noticed it was 6:50 pm which was the time our next flight was boarding. Fortunately, we did make our next flight on last call after a mad dash through the terminal. As I type (08:17 UTC) this flight is still enroute to SCL. How many flatties will dispute the existence of this flight? Some really strange flat Earth incantations and whacko maths would have to uttered to deny its existence. The websites of Auckland and Santiago (SCL) would have to be in on any deception as would FlightRadar24. Now if we assume that this flight will average say 500 mph, I wonder how far apart these two places would be? I also noticed flights from Sydney and Melbourne are also scheduled. I wonder what their flight times would also tell us about their distance from SCL? Now let’s consider what the initial depart track would be for the last two flights. Would it be northwest, west or southwest? I wonder if a flattie could answer? To do that they need a map. But just like a shy bride on her wedding night, they are a bit coy about flashing the goods.

It is worth pointing out that if someone says 'it's because there are super-fast jet-streams jets can ride' they are, in effect, doing the same thing as blaming the non-changing apparent size of the sun, its rise and set, the apparent motions of the stars and planets etc, on 'atmospheric optics': I.E. they are saying 'it's flat, but the world conspires to create a very good illusion it's round'. If I buy into that idea to see where it leads, logically: As we live in the world, and therefore within that illusion, the 'round model' is therefore going to be more effective and the one we need to usually employ to _do_ anything. So the idea of the world being flat gets, in effect, relegated to a philosophical point, or an effectively-un-disprovable (and therefore not scientific) belief. Sorry you FE guys (if you're reading these comments), you are absolutely free to hold such a belief, and I'll argue with anyone who's personally abusive toward you for that, but in practical terms... that's what it becomes.

Flying from Sydney or Auckland to Santiago might take the flight over Antarctica depending on the headwinds, but certain parts of Antarctica are off-limits even for certified ETOPS 330 airliners, because there is a whole other continent on the other side of the Southpole and the extra fuel needed could not be carried. Anyway, flights across the globe still did not prove what is in motion, the Earth or the Universe as neither would effect the actual flight.

I don't want to annoy but in reality it doesn't matter knowing what shape the earth is in the scheme of things because even if above all else you know almost everything about science and physics ,, in that day it will avail us nothing if we do not know the Lord so remember that you must seek ye first the kingdom of God and the rest will be added unto you! Remember. In order to have materials the foremost asset is the ability of thought to form,, a plan,, process and repeated execution for more than one. The combined intelligence of man cannot reproduce even the most simple cell i.e. a bacteria cell so realize that if the combined intelligence of man has failed to do so that nothing from nowhere,, would not be successful either. @@tgstudio85 don't need school. I got Google. You go to school to get brain washed. I'll ask you. How high do we have to fly to see the earth rotate at 1000 miles an hour? To answer the question of how fast Earth spins, you need to know two things: how long it takes to make a full rotation, and Earth’s circumference. The time it takes Earth to rotate so the sun appears in the same position in the sky, known as a solar day, is 24 hours. However, the time it takes Earth to complete one full rotation on its axis with respect to distant stars is actually 23 hours 56 minutes 4.091 seconds, known as a sidereal day. With this information, to work out how fast Earth is spinning we need only our planet’s circumference. At the equator, its circumference is roughly 40,075 kilometres, so dividing this by the length of day means that, at the equator, Earth spins at about 1670 kilometres per hour

Dude, you really ought to get on a plane sometime and travel internationally. I have been around the world twice going east nearly the whole way and seeing the countries as though they are on a globe. The flight times matched the schedule., I fly during the day as I can't sleep on a plane. And I stay over at all stops. First Time I went from Seattle nonstop to Moscow Russia. Then to Israel and Cyprus. Then to Dubai, then to Manila. Then to Guam,, then Hawaii and finally back to Seattle. If you look those places up on the flat earth map that would be a tortuous journey and take twice a long.. Think for a second, people fly internationally about a billion times a year. The only time you hear the flight took longer than publicized is if they had an emergency stop. The 2nd time was similar except I went from Seattle to London and I skipped Guam and went to Korea instead.
