thank you very much, I'm 15 and last Saturday I started my first ballet class, because of my age I'm with classmates between 11 and 13 years old, it's amazing how good they are, I really felt like a fool, but I'll keep trying to get there far in the future

I’m in the same boat. I quit ballet because being in a class with little kids made me feel like I was the worst dancer. I’m trying to get back into it

I know this comment was from a few months ago but I wanted to say that you deserve every opportunity to pursue the life you want. Just because your parents didn't magically know when you were 2 that 13 years from then you would want to learn ballet does not mean that you are less deserving or capable than the younger students. Keep working, you can do it. Don't feel silly, you are showing your confidence and power by even trying when so many other people would be too discouraged.

oh my god, thank you very much for your message, in these 5 months, I have practiced almost every day, before doing ballet I was in a folk dance group in my country (Colombia), thanks to that my physical strength was quite good , and thank god I've seen a lot of progress. Thanks for your message, I really needed it at a time like this, it's funny to be jealous of younger girls haha, but knowing that I just started recently and can stand up for myself in class, it's encouraging. Sorry for the english, it's not my main language

And isn’t everything about enjoying the journey? I wish I had understood that when I was in my teens though…. and in my twenties, and in my thirties lol. The way I see it, if you truly understand that now, you’re already way ahead of most people 🙂

Thanks so much for sharing this. I, like you, was so focused on the negative my whole life that I didn't get the chance to truly enjoy anything. Within the past year, I've done a lot of brain work, and started focusing on what's going well for me and practicing gratitude. My whole life is better for it. Thank you for the reminder!

I love this, especially tip #6 about enjoying the journey and not being uptight! I started ballet this year as a 31 yo and it has been so fun. I’ve improved quite quickly and made a lot of friends, but could often feel myself tightening and getting anxious at the thought i’d doing allegro. I try to be really honest with myself about when these feelings begin, and somehow acknowledging them makes me focus on them less, and I can just get on and enjoy the movement and company of my ballet classmates and the teachers

Please could you show us how exactly you manage to find those pesky turn-out muscles. So true about the genetic lottery, which a lot of people say is not having the correct facility for ballet. Thank you for these insights.

I’m planning on making a second part to my turnout video! I’ve had a hard time figuring out the most straightforward way to explain how to engage turnout muscles over video. I’m adding a short explanation in at the beginner of lesson 3!

This might sound weird but what helped me find them was to literally feel around my upper leg plié and with your hands just feel the top of your leg basically your groin lol

Aside from genetics, which are defintely important, not training since very young age also may lead to a body that's not "ballet-perfect". I was never really an active child, teen or adult (even though I wanted to train ballet since I was a toddler, it didn't happen) and now I have spine that's too straight and legs that are too curvy and I hunch a lot. It's hard to imagine myself looking like beautiful, strong ballerina, but I will try anyway to use the body I have and make it stronger and this channel assures me that I can do it

I’m fourteen and I don’t think il be able to do actual classes or performances as a kid because my family travels back and fourth between two states and I don’t think I will be able to focus on ballet until Im am adult so how do I join performances as an adult or is performances just for kids?
@rebeccaleavenworth2242

I don't have actual experience with this so I may be wrong, but try checking with local theaters. They may have contact information for dance groups in your area. Performances are definitely not just for kids, there are some beautiful adult ballet performances. You can find videos of them here on KZbin. Don't give up on your goals even if they seem too far away to be "realistic".

I started ballet at my community college and it was an actual class and the final was a performance, most colleges offer dance don’t feel intimidated they’re not professionals everyone is there to learn and the professors to teach
