See if you can process that in your brain. Trump also HAS sent many ventilators and other equipment to NYC. Even though the state of NY refused to buy enough ventilators for themselves, as many other states did. An internal report for NY said they needed to buy 16k ventilators, but Cuomo did nothing. So they call the federal government to bail them out, and you pretend that Trump refused to help them. What alternate universe do you live in? Yes but, have you not been the current administration for 3+ years? Why were tons of essential medical supplies sent to China and Thailand in recent months after the first outbreaks? Was the virus not being taken seriously as a potential threat to the US? Why must states bid against one another? What is the role of the federal government in light of such incompetence? Isn't it supposed to be 'The UNITED States of America' instead of each state must fend for themselves? One American life for all American lives is what has been trumpeted. Take care of one another. If states have to outbid each other to desperately obtain essential resources, does that not make the purpose of the federal government meaningless? Why even have a President in that case? The governors have become stronger in power than the President - that is essentially what he is saying - he is diluting the idea of the presidency and saying - free for all. Back to the wild west. What really astounds me is how many citizens have no clue about our constitution and how important it is to our nation. I have countered 2 people that were totally unaware that Trump being the President of our nation is the most powerful citizen in the entire US and he is the leader of our nation! The President of the United States is one such leader. As a nation, we place no greater responsibility on any one individual than we do on the president. Through these lessons, students learn about the roles and responsibilities of the president and their own roles as citizens of a democracy. According to Article II, Section 2, Clause I of the Constitution, the President of the United States is commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces. The president is the head of the executive branch. The president is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress, and appointing the heads of the federal agencies and the Cabinet. The role of president typically refers to the leader or head of a business, organization, agency, institution, union, university, or branch of government. The president is the top employee in the constitutions chain of command.

It must be so hard for those reporters to sit there and not talk back, especially when Trump is bragging about how Pence can dodge their questions and Kushner is talking about Federal property like it belongs to him. I know it's part of their job to follow the etiquette and only ask questions when they get the chance, but good grief it must take self discipline to not start razzing the stage. They show respect for the Administration even when it shows none for them.

Since this is an international epidemic, Trump could theoretically be brought before the World Court. The problem is that the World Court is extremely cowardly whenever it comes to US leaders committing crimes against humanity. Neither Bush nor Chaney were ever charged for their actions, even after they were no longer in power, and, sadly, it's likely that the same will happen to Trump.

Either from a purely selfless moral point of view, because you want to look after your neighbour, or from an understanding that it benefits you personally if your neighbour were to return the same sentiment?

Many of us do. I have taken in two homeless people and my grown grandson who is out of work. I have always helped people all my life. I hope this is a turning point for the American people to stop glorifying billionaires and focus on sound public policy instead. Take pause even with Bill Gates. There is no basis for judging a man's quality as a government official by his ability to accrue wealth (which let's be honest here getting rich is an increasingly difficult task for someone born poor, wealth inequity is the highest it has ever been and is growing in the USA and most nations worldwide), the basis for government is the spirit of representation, which does not know racism or sexism or all the other ugly qualities in DT and his administration.

well, it isn't that bill gates is a random billionaire. Whether you like him or not, Gates was one of the pioneers of computing, and has since leaving MS created a large effort to stem malaria and other insect borne diseases, which is a huge logistical effort (which is essentially what government is at a time like this), and has modeled (himself personally with co-authors; look up the peer reviewed papers) contagion spread systems in different scenarios using modified SIR models. While Bob Webster was one of the first to predict a large pandemic like this based on influenza (with the correct assumption it would be a novel virus we have little herd immunity to) back in the 1990s, Gates also was sounding the alarm bells for over 5 years now. I'm no fan of Gates, but he is qualified more than kushner or anyone else in Drumpf's family to comment on these issues.

@@bobf5360 Yes he was a pioneer in Greed in the computer industry. You probably didn't know that while Jobs and Wozniak were working with the home brew computer club creating free software, gates sued them because they used BASIC in some of their software. This may have been the first lawsuit in computer history. They then created tiny basic, and gave it to the world! He also bought MS-DOS from Seattle Computer Products - later Digital Research and then proceeded to take credit for it. In later years he was caught trying to sabotage DRs main product. Same with Java from Sun which he purposeful tried to derail by making his crappy C# incompatible. As one who was programming when MS DOS came out (and long before) I can assure you that folks in the know watching this farce had no confidence in Microsoft. The kept their internals secret to the point that as a programmer you h ad to use unofficial sources to figure out how to do anything at a low level (Like memory mapping for example: There was a secret interrupt to get the starting address of a memory chain). At any rate - do a little digging about the early years before you give Bill all the credit.

To be fair, obviously all unemployment lines are going to be overloaded right now & it's not practical for them to hire more staff in the middle of a lockdown. There's no way around this! What you have to have is smart solutions that recognise this & prevent it seriously impacting people & if you care about your population, that's what you do. In my country, we had massive queues at unemployment offices the day after lockdowns came into effect, people were sent home to fill in the forms online, told to stay at home & do it online not by phone or in person, the government acknowledged they screwed up & should have realised that was going to happen when they did the lock down & been better prepared for it, all while making it clear to everyone that all claims could be backdated & while working on additional economic packages to sort out the mess of unemployment, eventually getting about half those people back to their jobs, with payments to be paid via their employers instead, with businesses to be "hibernated" for 6 months instead of closing & firing staff & the government told everyone THEY would figure out which benefit people should be on & there was no need for them to touch their unemployment claims again, everything would be sorted their end & backdated, cause they realised that was far more efficient & manageable than trying to deal with phone or in person, or even online alternations to claims. System overloads are inevitable, denying people benefits because of it is not. Everyone here is getting government support for the next 6 months if the income of the company they work for has dropped by 30% or more, unless they're not a citizen, in which case they're being told they need to go home
