The dealership gave me the same BS. It’s called Go away quote. I have went to Benz Corporate and in the process of getting my issues properly addressed. Dealer won’t touch my truck and have warranty !! Imagine that.

This doesn’t sound like a chain for me. Usually chain rattles only on a cold start then is goes away

They could have patched that wiring harness for tons cheaper but I wonder if the technicians even know how to complete a proper wiring patch today. R & R everything seems to be the way these days. I mean some things are easily repaired and cost far too much to replace. I have a W16303ML500 and the 1st gen. MLs have the unique distinction of being labeled as "Alabama Trashcan."

Hi Jeff. I have a 2010 Mercedes ML350 Bluetec that has a constant stream of problems. The latest code is P0299 which means low boost which could be a number of problems though the main one most people have with this issue is play at the Wastegate linkage causing the engine to lose boost pressure. It sounds like you are experienced with diesels so you may know more than me but I would guess the raddling is from your turbocharger wastegate. This is my wife's car so I can't just sell it as she likes it but this is the worst car I have ever worked on. Too much technology.

@@waynehendricks8187 Thank you for the comment, however my rattle issue was a timing chain tensioner. I am not exactly experienced in the modern diesels like my GL350. I go back into the 80s and before for my trial and error repairs. Modern stuff like my GL are frustrating and I do have a couple shops non-Mercedes that will work on it. I wish I could help you more.

Like you are saying it sounds like the timing chain. I just had my timing chain replaced on my audi, for way too much. I think you are in the same boat as me, no one will buy it for what it is actually worth with the rattle. I would get it fixed for as cheap as possible and get rid of it.

even if you needed a new engine, you can buy used ones for like 10k (worst case scenario, but I hope it gets repaired)

I drive 2016 gl350 they have om642 engines. They go on many cars starting from sprinter to grand Cherokee. They have some flaws but they all fixable. What happened to this car on a video is unfortunate mistake by mechanic.

Does not sound like a timing chain to me as when it fails om the om642 it initially rattles during cold start for roughly 5 seconds and smooths after but even the sound on your differes from the timing chain rattle. Have a look at this video as the sound seems close to what you're hearing on yours: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2PGqWaJatV-g6Msi=K87ngnDmD2rhMQFh. Check with your dealer the AEM recall for the diesels if that was done as it covers a long list of items for free for 50k miles or 5 years after the AEM recall was performed. This is my second ML with the om642 engine, a W166 so similar to yours, first one was a w164 and I love this engine and it has been reliable but some things cost a bit more as it has a Mercedes stamp😅. Dont get let down just take some time to get it sorted as it is a new car to you and you will definitely enjoy after.

They should cover your chain with extended warranty. What is your mileage?! And what is your situation now?! I am on the market to buy one. Never heard of chain going at this mileage on this engines.

@@bulatfatykhov mileage is just over 112,000, coverage to 120000. I took to local mechanic last week, and he found a collapsed oil filter possibly restricting oil flow. More to come when he finishes his diagnosis.

See I told you this not a chain. Chain usually go bad between 150 to 200k depending on style of driving. Yeah there is couple more things you need to address like pcv valve that fills up turbo with oil if not replaced since it sits right next to it.

Still fully believe this is a timing chain clank. Partnered with the pump just not putting in enough work to circulate that oil as needed

Timing chain is a known issue in this vehicle . Usually stretching and needs replaced . You also need to use a diesel additive like Archoil because the sensors are getting carbon on them , this vehicle needs to be driven 20 Kim’s highway so the Diesel particulate filter get hot enough to burn the carbon . They absolutely hate being driven short trips in town for errands .
