That's exactly what I was saying , but apparently I am somewhat different. Said the other way around, which I would not dream of would be met with guaranteed antagonism. I think we are lucky to have foods from around the world available to us these days. Living in between Liverpool & Manchester, you name it, I can probably give it a go food wise and have in most cases. Irrespective of where my palate is from.

I was born in the East End (in 1952!!!) and after the guy (apologies, I missed his name) who ran the restaurant mentioned workers from the rag trade, we lived over the oldest shoe factory on Mare Street in Hackney. I saved up that video and watched it after dinner (in Queensland) and my mouth was still watering. The food looked fantastic and I'm going to use the marinating in papaya, next chance i get. Great video, Latif, it pretty much made me nostalgic for London.

I love eating at Lahore. Lahore has always been a go-to place for so many Londoners regardless of ethnicity or background. What I love about Lahore, is it's one of the few places now days where you can arrive with a large group of people and still order directly off the main menu. Most restaurants in London will require you to order a set menu if you're eating with 8 people or more. Best dishes at Lahore in my opinion: Lamb Chops, Biryani, Nihari, Paneer Tikka, Weekend Pilau, Korahi Ghost and the breads.

Been going here and Sweet and Spicy for over 30 years. Gutted when S&S closed, their Kagli curry and kebab / sweet sauce was amazing, all oversaw by the wrestlers on the wall. Lahore was just the side shop on the side street, formica tables and a formidable serious Gent running the counter. Food served in white bowls and a spoon. I was nearly always the only white eating in there (same S&S). Brought back so many memories. Tiyab was also amazing back in the day, before expansion, when just a small shop with cracked floors next to a pub (that they expanded into eventually), trad home style food for the asian community. I get Nehari now from a small caff / takeaway in Leeds as I’m a Yorkshireman. Shank braised in a thin pungeant gravy with 2 roti or a naan, £8.50. Again, never see a white face in there. Great chicken and lamb seekh kebabs there too. Ufortunately London is now a mad house and I wont be living there again but will visit Lahore when next down and relive some great memories and food.

People complaining about the ‘hygiene’ have clearly never worked in a professional kitchen. It’s nearly midnight and they’ve been serving food all day, what do you think the kitchen it going to look like? Even Michelin star restaurants are a tip by the end of service. I like these type reviews, though at my age,I will never return home to England.I am in NY,and I think we have a lot of quite authentic Indian restaurants,I live in an almost exclusively Bangladeshi neighborhood,I was here before they started coming here,we have so many little restaurants catering to the bachelors, and catering the many Bangladeshi parties. We have 24/7 Bangladeshi supermarkets.I was shopping in one after midnight last night, when some young Bangladeshi boys came in,and at the register they were trying to decide if they should get Balushahi,I say yes it’s delicious, and they couldn’t believe I knew what it was,my favorite sweet, along with Kalazam😂😂
