Slang.. but also the grammar used is different between countries. Also there are subtle differences in pronunciation with things like the final 'n' in words like 'pan'. Some countries will almost put a 'g' at the end, while others may convert it into an 'm'. Also these videos are forgetting the big one: the use of 'usted'. Colombians tend to use 'usted' much more than other countries. And in some countries its polite to use it with older people, while in others its considered alienating. In Spain they don't use it at all. And in some countries they use the ancient version of 'usted' which is 'su merced'.

Brazil received many times more Italian immigrants than Argentina and Uruguay. The difference is that Brazil was already a massive country by then, so only São Paulo portuguese is affected by Italian language

The Funny thing is that I guessed the same words as Julia: - palta = pauta de reunião (I would have never thought of "abacate) - queque = fila (queue em inglês). Nunca pensaria em "bolo". "tarta" in Portuguese is "torta" that iin Spanish is "bolo", lol, and "pastel" is a snack like the "empanadas". - móvil (here in Brazil we say "telefone", "celular" ou "telefone celular" (raro), mas tudo começou com "telefone móvel". - gancho = gancho (hook em inglês); clothe hanger as the one shown in the picture we call "cabide", The ones you hang your wet clothes to dry is "varal". - "Cebola" was funny. Except for Argentina, all the others say "cebolha" (Portuguese "lh" = Spanish "LL")

No se dice "torta" en Argentina, se dice "Bizcochuelo". Torta es cuando es para cumpleaños y/o las que tienen muchas decoraciones. Y "gancho" en Argentina no es utilizado para el objeto con el cual colgas la ropa mojada, sino que se dice "broche". En el caso de guardar la ropa es "percha". Si van a poner a alguien de Argentina que por lo menos sepa cómo le decimos a las cosas básicas...

OK, I got to ask: do the spanish-speaking latin americans also tend to instil naughty meanings into perfectly normal words in the Spanish spoken in Spain? 'Cause the Brazilians do into the Portuguese spoken in Portugal. A lot. As an example among many, rapariga, meaning simply girl (feminine form of rapaz), is for them a prostitute. Another example, bicha, meaning a sort of worm or, by extension, a queue, for them is slur for a gay male. And so on. Does this also happen in the Spanish-speaking world?

abacate is not the same thing as avocado, abacate is a different thing, although I believe they are from the same "family" of fruit. most supermarkets in Brasil do not sell avocado, and when they do they just say it is avocado.

The standart word for Avocado in portuguese is Abacate. It's true that we have differente types of avocado, but it's like Banana, there are many varietys but we still call "Banana - something". We dont have a official translate to that because our market dont produce/sell Avocado Mexican Type. But if they translate, would come like "Abacate Avocado" or "Abacate Mexicano". Our type is bitter and bigger. I dont know why.

Sem falar que é sempre uma brasileira de São Paulo ou do Sul, o que pouco representa o que a maioria aqui fala.

If you think about it most latin american countries just have Indigenous accent influenced by all the tribes colonized by Spain. So in a way. Mexico, Peru and Bolivia especially have Native accents. Just like in English us Natives in the US have accents that sound different to your typical american or most english speakers.
