When Doc is spinning the mug around, the other people in the bar think he's just acting like a drunken fool. Ringo saw that Doc had actually memorized all of the fancy spinning gun tricks he just did, and repeated them all flawlessly while piss drunk. Even when drunk, Doc handled his twirling just as good as anyone else. Imagine how incredible he’d be without the booze. While everyone was cheering, Doc was studying his speed and draw. Ringo didn’t think that one through, he gave away his surprise to the last guy he’d want to do that with. On the other side of it, while people were laughing at Doc doing the cup twirling, Ringo watched in awe and shock as Doc did his exact every single move and twirl while completely plastered. He realized he was no match for Doc and in way over his head. His face completely dropped at 3:17
@wolfofwallstreet1907 Жыл бұрын
That's not necessarily true. Him being drunk all the time is probably what made him better. If he sobered up and stayed clean he would've lost most of his talent because he wouldn't be used to that kind of balance. When I did construction in my younger days I was also a heavy drinker and smoker and I executed my job everyday with extreme prejudice. When my doctor told me I had to quit drinking because of my liver I wasn't the same anymore. As the days went by and I got more sober I couldn't function correctly or get numbers right as they used to come so naturally to me. My co workers would ask me what the heck happened to me n like I said I function better when my body is marinated in alcohol

This is a masterclass scene. The buildup, the tension, and then the release. It's perfect.

Val Kilmer and Michael Biehn gave us a great scene. Val Kilmer earned an Oscar nomination for his character as Doc Holliday.

Even drunk Doc was successful in learning (and jokingly mimic) all of Ringo's movements, this is why he prevailed in their last duel.

One of the best movies ever made.. russel/earp did a great job, but kilmer/doc...took it to another level and stole the show in a classic movie with a full cast of great actors..

When he starts to spin the cup, that's one of the most disrepectful things in a movie ever. It's a big "do you think that impress me?".

"We don't need no stinking translator". From their tone of voice and body language it was obvious they were throwing insults and challenges. Ringos hand on gun was an obvious death threat. Now consider this, most of the people in that room would have backed the cowboys. Ringo could have shot Doc and got away with it at trial. And Doc knew that too, yet he was not taking any sass from Ringo. I'm sure Doc heard Wyatt cock the shotgun, so he knew even if Ringo shot him, Wyatt would take out Ringo and Curly. Doc saw his mother die a slow, painful death from TB and perhaps he was willing to die a sudden death from gunshot. He knew Ringo was a cold blooded hotshot and probably would be happy to die knowing Wyatt was going to take out Ringo. Ringo wanted to see Doc flinch but it ain't happening so he cleverly pretends to put on a show and settles for that thinking Doc can't match it. Then Doc makes a total mockery of it by perfectly replicating every move Ringo made. That told Ringo that Doc is a lot shrewder than he counted on and might explain why Ringo was reluctant to gunfight with Doc.

You hit the bulls eye there 👍 And I loved that scene too, actually the whole movie.

Not just that, but every time Johnny came out looking for a fight, Doc stepped up cool as ice. By their final encounter, Johnny knew that Doc Holiday was at least as stone cold a killer as himself, and given his reputation, certainly his match at gunplay. The difference between them is that Ringo knew they were both quickdraws and didn’t want to risk it, while Doc was itching to play that game.

Let's not forget Doc twirled a tea cup as to say, "So what, twirling a gun doesn't show anything?" This was an insult to someone who thought they were proving their skill.

I've worked as a fisherman for 15 years, most of my experience is on a freezer longliner named the Kjevolja. You don't get a lot of downtime on fishing boats, but when you do one of the only things to do is sit in the galley and watch movies.

Look at Doc eyeing Ringo as Ike is blabbing at Wyatt. Fuck me, that's some fantastic acting and directing. You can just see Doc dissecting Ringo in that tiny little window of time...

I think Doc was learning how fast Wingo’s could draw his gun in that scene.
@_Hissatsu4 жыл бұрын
Think so too. Doc really studied the aim Ringo takes and how fast he can draw his gun. That was Ringo's demise. Showing off his moves gave Doc a huge advantage when they meet again

@@_Hissatsu those days were not days to study...He got drawn on and wasnt expecting it...he made a mockery out of it once he saw Ringo was just showing off..

@DecBragg22 Wow, I had no idea that was Stephen Lang in Tombstone. You are truly right. A great actor can become invisible behind the character. Stephen did that completely! I just saw Avatar and had no idea he was the same actor!
