Wonderful video! But I think it would have been better to compare a pontifical solemn high mass, or at least a normal solemn high mass with the Byzantine liturgy, considering the divine liturgy here has lots of assisting ministers and a bishop. I think a TLM with more elaborate music may make for a better comparison as well, since the Byzantine liturgy has lots of polyphonic singing.

Good point! To tell you the truth, it was a little difficult downloading the Masses at all because for some reason the KZbin to mp4 website I was using only downloads video and audio separately, so I was just trying to use anything I could find at that point. @@Altare_Dei Because I was intellectually convinced that the 1st Millennium church was more Orthodox than Roman Catholic, the Roman church has acknowledged it has innovated, changing the Liturgy and catechism in Vatican 2 to be more modern and protestant, adding to the Creed, "advancing" the understanding of the trinity, and expanded the powers of the Patriarch of Rome to Supremacy and then Infallibility. Most importantly, I was spiritually convinced by the Liturgy, the clergy, and the monasteries I visited that gave me a closeness with Christ I never had in my 27 years of being Catholic, despite even working for the church. I am Lutheran. We have an altar we use, but it is not holy in itself, but an object set aside only for God. Where Christ's sacrifice, his real body and blood are displayed. Not symbolically like other Protestants, but really. The altar is surrounded by a latticework with a kneeler. There we take the sacrament of the altar to ourselves. The liturgy is also according to the Catholic order, but still according to Mass with the back, II. Similar to the Church before the Vatican Council. The difference is that we do not respect objects, only the action is sacred. For example, the Lord's Supper.

There are several denominations of non-Roman culture recognized by the Catholic Church as its own. I, who received the royal prophetic priestly rank in my baptism, and my soul was breathed into me by the Almighty God, therefore I am not in vain praying for the Catholic and Lutheran churches to have an officially declared common set. We believe in the "invisible Church", so this is already a reality for us. For me, my wife's Roman Mass is truly an evangelical service, maybe two sentences that I don't agree with. Is the Divine Liturgy (the Eucharist) also a SACRIFICE or an unbloody re-crucifixion of Christ on the cross in Orthodox theology like it is with a Roman Mass? They look NOTHING alike! Thanks from an Episcopalian.
@Altare_Dei5 ай бұрын
Divine Liturgy and Holy Mass are two different liturgical expressions, but both are ultimately the same Eucharistic celebration. It is not a "re-crucifixion" or a "re-sacrificing" of Christ, but a presentation of, and participation in, His one true sacrifice at Calvary. We join ourselves to that eternal moment as the bread and wine are literally transubstantiated (changed in substance) into Christ's flesh and blood during the consecration, as shown here. The theology is the same for both, irrespective of liturgical form. Divine Liturgy is also practiced by Eastern Catholic churches, which are like Orthodox churches, except they're in full communion with Rome. Does that make sense?

@@Altare_Dei Why didn't Jesus wear some ORNATE vestments, etc to celebrate His last Passover meal in a medieval ritual style too like Catholics and Orthodox go about it? It went from a rustic simple setting around a table to high art! Surely it puzzles the Lord! He'd say "that's NOT" what I told y'all to do! An example, Cardinal Burke's pagan Solemn High Pontifical Sung Latin Tridentine Mass with the GLOVES on! Overkill.
@Altare_Dei5 ай бұрын
@@Reid-yy5nw There's nothing pagan about it. Vestments are meant to show the sacredness of the liturgical action and communicate the significance of what is happening. Each item, such as the gloves you mention, has a deep spiritual and symbolic meaning that represents an aspect of worship. Gloves, for example, represent purity from sin, the performance of good works, and carefulness of procedure. The "high art" you take issue with has developed from traditions that ultimately go back to the Early Church. Sure, the underground church wasn't necessarily ornate, but they still valued iconography and art as symbolic of their faith. As an Episcopalian, I would think you'd understand, given the historically ornate nature of Anglican churches, not to mention the coronation of the head of your Church, King Charles. If we're pagan for being ornate, aren't they too?

@@Altare_Dei You're right. I'm in the wrong pew. But Baptists are too addicted to a symbolic only Lord's Supper while they're RIGHT on the simple way to perform it as the Jews did Passover. So I'm in a mess. The Lord would say "you all have got it wrong!" So thanks for talking me into just quiting CHURCH altogether! I tried.

@@Reid-yy5nw I would not come to that conclusion either. I'll keep you in my prayers though! God bless

Православные ведут службу на Английском, немного смешно как это звучит, но это для меня как для русского православного, и тем не менее если не прислушиваться к языку то обычное православное богослужение 😊
