I can always count on you Wade. Just got myself a Den Nora Tokunaga and a Bl Yellow Bird. Searched KZbin and you have caretips for both. Thank you so much 💐

I have a latouria type dendrobium cross that I didn't give the best care, but when I stated giving it better care, it exploded with new growth. I'm talking about more than five new growths when it used to have two. I hope it'll bloom soon because it should be an amazing show of fuzzy green flowers.

Impeccable timing - I've been after some Latourias for ages - very thin on the ground in the EU and I've just bought my first one - on it's way now. I was always under the impression that these grow similar to the den. phals so this is just what I needed. I'm hoping to get more - it's just a matter of finding some without having to pay silly prices. Thank you for all the tips in one place, appreciated.

The latouria is my favorite genus. I also have a little green apples and it has not stopped blooming since I purchased it last year. There's never been a day where there is no bloom on her. I've repotted her in terracotta pot and in lava rocks and she seems to love it. I hope you make them available for sale since I do love this genus.

That is a perfect choice of pot a and media. If I didn't have to ship it I think I might have made the same choice.

Thank you, Wade! This was an informative video. I have been thinking of getting a latouria dendrobium at some point. This was interesting. Have a great Saturday!

I have convolutum and it has really deep colors of lime green and deepest purple lip. It is a very reliable bloomer. It grows new pseudobulbs all the time and these always bloom with 4 or 5 flowers on at least two pseudobulbs.

Nice video wade...i tend to water all of my Latourias everyday in the heat of summer...and they get slightly more than intermediate light..but then again i have mine strictly in lava rock with maybe a little bit of sphagnum amongst the rock but that is just how i do it..i haven't repotted mine yet and probably won't since you reported that it is in the medium that can last up to 5 years...maybe when it starts shooting up a new growth i will repot it...unless you recommend otherwise. Again thanks wade for all that you do and the person that you are :)
@wadesorchids72198 жыл бұрын
It will be fine. I usually repot when they outgrow the pot.

Wow, Wade, that was awesome. I really want the green apples. I've seen that in a previous video of yours and wanted it then too. Now I'm convinced....especially when you said it doesn't need a cool winter. I'm sold. As for the project plant, where can we get one of those?

Ahh I see where I'm going wrong. I've been a bit too neglectful of them and have treated them more like my catts. Clearly they need and want a little more frequent watering than I've been giving them this winter.

Alison M. Since I made this video I have found that they can take quite a bit of water when in active growth.

I purchased a bi color flush Dendrobiums at our society’s auction. It’s tall and in a 4” clay pot. It stays wet for 7-10 days post watering, which I’m not sure if I should be concerned. It has a new growth at the bottom of a cane. Should I repot it in looser medium?
@wadesorchids72194 жыл бұрын
Ann Athey you might want to at least unpot it to look at the roots. Something seems wrong when it dries that quickly. Soak it for about 5-10 minutes so it will come out of the clay pot more easily. Ideally it should dry in about 3-4 days. Good luck!

Wade's Orchids thank you so much!

I repotted it and it was in sphagnum moss and a bit of dead roots. I’m very happy for the advice. Placed in new medium, I’m happy I hope my orchid is too! Thanks!

wade, just got den Burana White Jade. Bought it at Lowes and it is in flowers. Should I repot now or wait until it is finished blooming. Does it need a dry winter period. I am growing it in So. Calif. in a side patio with cattylayas and cymbididiums and species. I can grow most species out of doors all year long. What say you? thanks
@wadesorchids72198 жыл бұрын
That is a Phalaenopsis type of Dendrobium and likes warm temperatures and good light (same intensity as Cattleyas). Repot it when it is done flowering and add extra drainage. Some use straight lava rock but you must use a fertilizer with micronutrients. No rest period for this type.
@glendaurmacher32668 жыл бұрын
thank you so much. I knew you would know what to do with this. Want some Latourias.! Still can't get to Orchid Aholic Anonymous! its me. I am dense with computers!!

would I give it cattalaya light while in bloom. I like to keep the in the house in bloom and I don't have that kind of light in the house.
@wadesorchids72198 жыл бұрын
It certainly wouldn't hurt to keep it inside for a week or even a bit longer but these can bloom for 2 months or more.

What do you think of leca and a clay pot for them? I thought bark was not good because it would stay too moist. Or can I mix both? I have orchiata bark at home.
@wadesorchids72197 жыл бұрын
I'm kinda "old school". When I was developing my techniques there was no leca. I can see how it may help with drainage. I guess in the end we all work into the materials and techniques that we use. The Orchiata should work well. Using drainage material in the bottom is a huge help.

Where can I get kiwi bark?
@wadesorchids72198 жыл бұрын
I do sell small quantities but Sunset Valley Orchids is the supplier in the United States and if you are in the western U.S. the best place to get it from. Orchiata bark is similar and may be your best bet. The big problem is that shipping costs kill you because of the weight. Get with friends or your local society and do a bulk order. Another way is to contact someone who will be at a show you will be going to and arrange to pick it up there. I had to order 50 bags to get a good price to the east coast.
