New tips on how to grow type 4 hair long. Length retention is a goal that most men and women with natural hair want. It may be the reason why many of us went natural in the first place. So many people online are showing luscious natural locs of hair down their backs and many of you want to know how to grow your natural hair too.
I’ve gone natural three times in my life. Once simply because I couldn’t afford professional relaxers while in college ,and twice intentionally here on KZbin. I’ve been able to grow my hair past my shoulders on all three occasions.
We’ve all heard the common ways to grow natural hair; protective style, trim, wear silk/satin bonnets, stretch your hair, moisturize, and drink water.
Well, this video has some new tips to help you on your hair growth journey. So grab your note pads and get ready to reach your hair growth goals!

I will finger detangle first then I will go in with my wide tooth comb and my felicia leatherwood brush...But you are so right you cant keep cutting out your single strand knots...I had to get use to my hair having them so I try to keep my hands out of hair so that I'm not tempted to clip them out!!!🤗

Yes Mel! I had to get used to them too. It took me a while to realize it was okay. It think it’s a learning curve for most people who transitioned. I love the idea of finger detangling first. If I have to use a comb, I do the same exact thing.

YES put the scissors down people! My friends who trim their hair regularly often ask me how I grew my hair so long and my answer is always just "I don't cut my hair". I haven't trimmed my hair since 2017 and my hair has grown 16 inches since then and surprisingly I don't have any split ends just a lot of single strand knots. Even with split ends, in the past, I was still able to retain quite a bit of length. If you're wondering, yes, I do have type 4 hair.
@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 4 жыл бұрын
👏🏾 I grew up with a cosmetologist so I know the benefits of trimming, but I haven’t found that it’s necessary to do it more than a few times a year if you take decent care of your hair. Of course we’re all different, so I usually recommend a person just respond to what their hair tells them it needs.
@ThisIsMissCheeky
@ThisIsMissCheeky 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. By "trim their hair regularly" I meant friends who trim often unnecessarily. Like trimming every month when your ends are perfectly fine. I don't recommend never trimming to everyone but I definitely think everyone should give not trimming often a try.

@LaToya Ebony... I agree with you. Finger detangling also adds a sensuous feminine component to self-care. My Hair gets matted when I’ve been inattentive =>frustration => yanking out knots with comb=> angry “at” my hair . Much better to love my hair with gentleness, to embrace my culture and femininity over time. Thank you for this helpful video

I would often wondered why my hair would look dirty, even though I shampoo every week. I started doing a clay mask every four to six weeks. A clay mask or a chelating shampoo, removes hard water deposits from the hair. Once I rinse the mask out, I follow up with a moisturizing conditioner.

Excellent video! I am loving your hair whether shrunken or stretched. I detangle briefly with my fingers before going in with a regular comb. Apart from trims every 4 months, the only time I cut single strand knots is if shed hairs get caught in them. Aside from that I just ignore the single strand knots. I don't have that many despite the fact that I wear wash and gos typically. Maybe that is because I have low to medium density hair. I embrace shrinkage because it gives me volume. Sending you love from Jamaica.

The SSK thing is some good advice I honestly hadn't really though of. My curl pattern is more 3c/4a, but I still do get them even though my hair is relatively "stretched" in it's natural state. I find them annoying cause they make my hair feel less smooth (and I tend to play with my hair), but they don't actually cause me any problems and no one can see them from a distance. I've never cut my entire head because of them, but when I'm bored I tend to sit there and cut individual strands of hair for a minute or two.

I SUPER agree that you must take the time to observe your split ends. I noticed that parts of my ends are not a complete part of the split end, if that makes sense. I clip just the part of my ends that I notice will affect the snap back into a smooth mini wave or curl.

Speaking of ‘ends’, another tip that keeps my hair and ends strong and moist is wearing those satin bonnets. I used to think they looked ridiculous until I started wearing them and seeing how they literally save my hair . Ahhmazing 🙃

Thanks for the great content! A have a couple of quick questions. 1. When you refresh your hair with water mid week, do you seal the water with oil afterwards? 2. How did you achieve your hair look in this video? It looks really nice. Is it a twist out?
@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 4 жыл бұрын
1. It depends and varies. I have a video coming out next week that will answer a lot of your questions. I mainly focus oil on my ends though. Spray with water, then later oil (if needed). 2. It’s a stretched twistout. Video coming next week! ❤️

I have a 1 year old and I can only do my hair when he takes a nap. So I have maximum 2 hours to do my hair. I would love to spend more time with my hair but its just not possible right now. Love your look in this video. Shout out from 🇿🇦

Omg! This is my first time here and I think I've fallen in love ♥️ I've just subscribed. I love the scientific evidence and realistic perspective you share. I have 4c hair and honestly... I'm not in love with it at the moment. My edges are weak, my hair is brittle and I'm literally on the hunt for methods that will add moisture and ultimately promote growth. Do you have any favorite products or routines? I'm so happy to have discovered this channel. Keep it coming!
