So to be clear the owner Monique Rodriguez did say that she formulated this oil for a product for WOC that she couldn’t find in the marketplace at the time. So this is probably where black women in particular take issue. Also to be fair a lot of black owned natural brands targeted at black consumers (see Shea Moisture) reformulated after being bought up by larger corporations (see Proctor & Gamble) to suit all hair types. I had a similar experience in 2015 with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner. That said I don’t really think this product in particular is even that well made AND those who want to make a similar product at home which is cheaper done in bulk & probably with better benefits for your hair. I will also add right now the market is saturated with hair growth oils & supplements etc many that are targeted at black hair textures. IMO if you don’t like what Mielle is doing, apparently they have been offering sponsorships to some white creators to promote it via TikTok at least, move on to another company or better yet make your own. Just my 2 cents though 🤷🏽♀️. ETA - It is sold out where I’m living though

Thanks for the research. The ingredient list is really things we can get at home and put our own little formulations together. Rosemary, however might have some benefits when it comes to DHT.

I had a horrible experience with Mielle. I own my own business and they held a contest. To enter, we had to record a short video explaining why we deserved to win the $10k prize and what we would do with it. They strung us along for weeks and never announced the winner. They were running other contests concurrently (one was only for HBCU students, etc.). They kept announcing those winners but not the small business contest winner. They kept asking for entries and resharing our videos to their IG stories. When we would ask for an update as comments to their IG posts and DMs, we were ignored. I had several friends who entered and as far as we are aware, they never actually announced the winner. They kept having these random IG Lives and telling us the "winner could be announced at any time" so we were all disrupting our days and even our businesses jumping into Lives that had nothing to do with the contest, staying on for an hour hoping for any kind of announcement, wash rinse repeat. No Mielle products for me due to that entire contest debacle. I don't trust them at all.

Yikes! 😤 That sounds about right though. I had a bad experience ordering from their website on Black Friday last year. I had seen all the BBB complaints and bad reviews about customers receiving damaged or no products, but my cheap behind still decided to order from their site because everything was on super sale. Well, the reviews were accurate…My order shipped after a week, but took several weeks to be delivered with zero tracking info., and they drafted the money from my account the second I placed the order🚩The box was in good shape, but all 8 of the products inside were damaged 🚩🚩. After several attempts to chat with a rep. on their site, they finally instructed me to send them pictures. That’s when I realized the damage looked a little suspect…None of the lids were unscrewed and there was barely any product spilled in the box, yet all of them had dried product crusted underneath the lid around the rim, all jars were sticky, some had missing product, and the packing slip had a different order number while all the other details were correct. Honestly, it looked like they re-packaged previously used/and or damaged items 🚩🚩🚩. One rep. told me to mail it back and she’d escalate my refund and follow up with me. Never heard from her. Another week goes by, tracking shows my shipment was delivered to them, but crickets from their end. Finally got a hold of another rep. who confirmed they received my return a few days prior and tried to say it would take 10 business days for them to issue the refund 🚩🚩🚩🚩. It was only after I said I’d dispute the charge that he came back with some ole “I’ll escalate it as a one-time courtesy, but it’s not our policy.” The audacity of him to think I’d ever purchase from them again! 😂 So yeah, it was a very shady experience. I’ll just stick to Melanin Haircare and TGIN.

the words “Hair growth” are all marketing. A single product can’t make your hair grow there are a lot of factors that play into hair growth and I think that we all know this already. This oil isn’t sold out everywhere the problem is social media. It’s like the game of telephone. I have been natural since 2013 and my hair was constantly dry no matter what products I used and I couldn’t figure out why until 2020. I started to deep condition more often and started to see a difference. I also started to oil my scalp and that made a huge difference as well. I learned my hair and learned how to retain moisture in my hair. I’m not saying that oils are moisturizing my hair because they don’t but they have made a difference with my hair. Blacks have been using oils in their hair for centuries this isn’t anything new and no one else has debates on using oils in hair except in this country. You do not have to see a doctor before using a hair oil. They’re not for breakage, if your hair is breaking an oil isn’t the solution, if you have a medical issue or losing hair due to diet or medication an oil is also not the the solution. We can’t be mad at the marketing geniuses; they’re just doing their jobs. People should honestly take the time to learn their hair. Everyone’s hair is different. Just because someone feels they don’t need to use something doesn’t mean that someone else can’t use it. Everyone has what works for them and just because someone things something won’t work doesn’t mean it won’t work.

@@Tahiha No, I'm talking about the verbenone type of rosemary vs. the more common camphorous types. Personally, unless there's a scalp condition... no one needs a scalp oil! Especially a raw unhydrolyzed oil that's full of soy bean oil. Our scalps oils, conditioners, and stylers have so many oils in them! Oils can be used to break a good cast, but that's it! However, to each its own!

I'm not a Mielle fan as I use my own rosemary tea concoction for scalp health; however, from what I understand, soybean has estrogenic properties which is why its not really healthy for long-term ingestion( cancer risk). Estrogen may counteract the effects of DHT which is one of the hormonal culprits in female hairloss and some forms of alopecia. Just my nerdy 2 cents- I could be wrong🙂.

I have it and am using it currently but it will probably be my first and last bottle. The smell is too strong for me. It lingers on my pillows, satin scarf, and bonnets. Plus, it's called "Rosemary Oil" but there are other oils in it and rosemary is like the fourth one down. Other oils I get, the only ingredient is that oil. I don't much like that.
@Tahiha11 ай бұрын
Well rosemary couldn’t be the first one because it’s an essential oil and MUST be mixed with a carrier oil in greater quantity than the rosemary oil itself, to be safe for use on the skin. So the fact that it’s fourth down isnt a bad thing at all. Being 3rd or 4th in the ingredients list is great.

I started using it October 2022 and from then to now, May 2023, oh i dont have a receding hairline that looks like it got pushed back lol. My bald patches now have hair lol. But ive gotten to a point where i feel the oil has done all it can do. From here, i need to make my own oil to suit my hair schedule and needs. The oil doesnt prevent hair from falling out, i was struggling with hair falling out for a while, the oil did help grow new hair, but it wont stop it from falling. That is where im at, how to prevent my hair falling out.

So you’re saying God decided to give some women growing hair and others not? Y’all are sick. Everyone has fast growing hair, everyone cannot so the same things to get it. Black women need to learn their hair, individually, and do what works for them. Our hair, generally, loves moisture most of all and being left alone. Water, glycerin in a spray bottle (another humectant when the temps drop if you’re in America) and leave it alone, your hair will grow. Using natural ingredients without harsh surfactants also help. But water most of all.

I used a few of their items in sample size that I got in swag bags or as extra giveaways at Sally’s beauty supply, or whatever. I was not impressed with any of the conditioners or Leavins that I used from them. The ingredients in their oil seemed really basic to me and I make my own oil and I have purchased oil from curly proverbs and henna sooq. This brand has been in the media for negative things since the beginning as far as I can tell. It was really just all hype and somebody who got the right investment money at the right time to be able to launch a mediocre business in the heat of the natural black hair care movement. Clearly, they did exactly what they wanted to do. Build up the brand off of taking advantage of consumers, and then sell the brand to a major conglomerate owned by Them and walk off into the sunset.
