Literally!! I feel so lucky just last week I was at target looking to grab my daughter a replacement leave-in. I was taking my time browsing brands when a sista asked me for help finding a product to help her son’s curls. I shared my recommendation for curl definers. She pulled out the Yuka app and I GAGGED!!! I was familiar with Yuka bc of a creator on here that does a lot of grocery store food reviews but never downloaded the app. When I tell you I’ve been doing an overhaul on every soap, moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, styler, toothpaste, hair product, food item and drink in my home! I really don’t play that and work hard to live a fairly clean life so its disappointing that in many cases these brands often quietly change ingredients. They start off clean and adjust without announcements. The replacement I was looking for was originally a completely clean brand 4-5 years ago. So grateful for that sista and God putting me there to “help” bc she helped me more ❤️

This is like Deva Curl all over again. Everyone has a theory. Henna is not in the first 5 ingredients, so I hardly think that henna was the culprit to the hair loss. You were right in the observation that the women had unhealthy hair, so logically, they would turn to a line marketed to help their hair to regain its health. It is also correct to say that too much of a "good thing" can have terrible results. They obviously did not alternate the wash days with strengthening and moisturizing. Had they done that, it may not have been the case. We must not forget that mint can be very drying as well. I know that mint dries imy hair out, so I ensure I have something moisturizing to balance the impact. It all comes in knowing your hair and what works and what doesn't. it is obvious to me that the women did not know their hair and were just looking for a solution to their issues, and unfortunately, it ended badly for them. They are now revealing their experience. How does this make them villains? As a manufacturer, If u say these products can be used every day or together, then you have liability. I know some companies have instructed that this type of product be used every 3 to 4 weeks or 3 or 4 washdays to ensure they are not overused and cause damage to people's hair. Why was this not done on this line? When creating formulas, you must know their impact on the consumer's hair. You go through testing, etc, and this should drive your instructions, but it's not reflected on these products. Why is that? We then have to question if the manufacturer cares about your hair or their bottom line. We, as consumers, need to ask ourselves the hard questions in circumstances like these and not take sides. We have to ask the whys??? Think about things logically. In conclusion, I think consumers are too trusting and need to educate themselves to avoid being taken advantage of by any company, whether hair or otherwise.

It’s not in the first 5 however Henna is very potent.
@KlassicallyKept3 ай бұрын
Good evening. I think you made some great points and asked some great questions. I never said Henna was the only culprit for the issues that Mielle is having, there are many contributing factors. This video was to highlight that we as consumers need to be more diligent when we are purchasing products, myself included. Back in 2020/21 when I tried the Rosemary line I can admit that I was not reading haircare labels. Had I known henna was in the collection I more than likely would have not purchased, I know how strong henna is. I am aware of the potency vs ingredients list, but I know people who cannot use henna simply because of how strong it can be. Thank you for watching

Agreed…anyone putting oil or grease on their hair multiple times a week is gonna have increased shedding, ur clogging the follicle with sebum and outside oil….the scalp in its most ideal state is CLEAN. If there’s a breakage issue and you jump in with oiling a lot…yea it’s gonna cause shedding that’s ur scalp telling u this new state is NOT ideal! If there’s solution to ur problem isn’t “extra oil on the scalp” it doesn’t make sense to randomly start doing it.

Thank you, Mya, for sharing how to take care of longer thick 4c hair and styles to make life easier when doing our hair. The key thing I have learned is that it takes time to take care of this beautiful hair were blessed with. This hair protects our scalp from the sun. If you really think about it. For years, we were brainwashed to believe we have to have straight hair like white women. And we relaxed, straightened, and chemically rearranged our hair to be " socially accepted" by Americas white standards. Many black women with 4c hair and hairstyles could not get decent paying jobs because of our hair. I am so glad those days are over. We've come into our own now. Wear your twists and braids and cornrows with style young ladies. I still like Bonner Brothers products when I can find them, Royal Crown, Blue Magic, and Suave Products to shampoo and condition. Read the ingredients that agree with your hair type. The CAMILLE ROSE grease or butter with chebe works for me. I see less breakage when I use this product when combing brushing and styling my hair. Glad you shared how henna and protein works. I want the Mielle products line to succeed.

Even if you're not using it to dye your hair, once henna gets into your hair, it stays there forever and WILL NOT come out unless you cut your hair (the overuse would always explains the loosening of the curl pattern some people experienced). It feels deceptive to put henna in a product and not label it, since, unlike silicones etc. that can be washed off with Shampoo, Henna binds to your hair cuticle on a deep level. I don't want that in my hair.

This was an amazing video, and it definitely shed light on this issue. I was using three products of this line-the shampoo, the masque, and the oil (I have the edge control but never used it). I didn't experience the issues some of the women have stated because when I used the conditioning masque, I would mix in a small amount of a moisturizing conditioner and some oils, and I follow up with a moisturizing leave-in and old school Blue Magic. I also think it is important to assess your hair and make adjustments to your hair regimen accordingly, and not use the same products for months on end, especially if you are no longer getting the results that you once did, or the health of your hair seems to be failing. The Rosemary and Mint line seemed to have worked for a while, but I have since switched to a different shampoo and masque that I believe will address the current needs of my hair. That being said, I have no qualms about using this line again in the future.

As someone who likes to DIY my own stuff and use organic ingredients, i agree with the first comment about ingredients. I looked at Mielle's Rosemary line and a lot of ingredients do promote growth but these ingredients (mostly the essential oils) are very well known irritants. Just because something is organic doesn't necessarily mean that it's good in the long run. Essential oils need to be used sparingly or be diluted, however they are on top of the list in the rosemary mint line. I use the shampoo in that collection once a month and decided to hold off on the oil because that type of product cannot be used daily. I just apply my sulfur 8 and moisturize as usual after I use the shampoo. I can't imagine the amount of damage using the whole line for each wash day, while using the oil daily must do to the skin and hair.

Well done. I am commenting as I sit with my intensive Henna mask which I also add Aloe Vera powder to and no lemon juice. It is very important to know one's hair porosity and to actually understand your specific hair needs. Too often and too many misbelieve their natural curls and coils to be damaged and in need of a host of strengthening products. Especially with my low porosity, fine strands less protein and protein mimicking products is more than sufficient. I also find it helpful to maintain a log as to when I apply Henna and actual protein or elasticity treatments. And as shared in this video, straight moisture products need to follow. Mielle Mongongo Protein-free Hydrating Conditioner is a staple. Reading and understanding ingredients is essential. If the Rosemary line did not include a good level of strengthening ingredients, then people could push back on the product claim. The Rosemary Mint Oil needs to be treated as an essential oil which I find works well when you add just a few drops to a carrier oil that agrees with your scalp and hair. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Flourishing Scalps, Curls & Coiils to all. Be well.

Hi, I find that many women with Coily and curly hair need to find out their hair’s porosity. My hair porosity is high and I use products that works for high porosity hair. The rosemary mint works for my hair, but I follow instructions exactly to the T and then I make sure I moisturize moisturize and add the oil at the end of my hair treatment or wash day. High Porosity hair requires moisture and sealing the strands. Moisturizers, butters, hair pomades and oils are Our Dear Friends for High Porosity!! Or your hair will break off!!! So for all High Porosity Hair, remember to Moisturize and Seal in the Moisture as often as possible and as needed until your next wash day! If wearing braids and twist, same thing to follow for High Porosity Hair! Also, for all hair types, oil on the scalp cause the scalp to react! If oiling the scalp, make sure you are going to wash it out within an hour or two or if leaving oil on scalp overnight, wash it out the next day! I put oil on my scalp only near my wash day or same day of wash!! MIELLE Products are Organic and will work when you know your hair’s porosity and follow the instructions to the T! What I stated above should work for High Porosity and their hair will love it!!❤❤Peace!!!🙌🙏

I immediately stopped using it, washed my hair and the itching stopped. For certainty I waited a couple of weeks and tried it again once and the next day I had itching and irritation, which confirmed to me that there was something wrong with this product, so I stopped. I think there is something more that is wrong with it other than the henna

Good morning, you are correct Henna may not be and is not the only culprit. The inspiration for the video came from the comment about henna being in the products. I have never heard of companies actually putting henna in haircare products ( I also have not tried and used all of the hair care products in the market). I focused on henna because as you know it can be very strong. People have also spoken about the amount of essential oils in Mielle products. To your point and experience, I tried the Rosemary oil as well ( original and light ) and I too had a terrible reaction.

It wasn't until you mentioned Mielle making your scalp unhappy that it finally clicked that my scalp always felt dry, tight, and itchy after I applied it to my scalp (usually about twice to three times per week). My hair is in overall good condition no tight styling or pulling since I get headaches easily), but my hair towards the crown area was a little thin. Over the last 2 years it's grown significantly and there's no hiding it really. Now that I got microlocs about a year ago, I can't really use grease on my scalp, but I'm about to go back to plain 'ole jojoba oil instead to see if anything changes because I'm extremely self conscious about my scalp now.

I went ahead and bought the sea moss and prepare it from scratch and realized it definitely strengthens the hair.but using a small amount is paramount. So I’m someone who did not know what henna did on the hair at all. However, whenever I see the word “strengthening” on anything hair product I know that I will need to follow up with someone moisturizing. That is probably why I had no issues when I used the rosemary and mint hair masque. Idk if that has henna in it or not, but strengthening usually always means some kind of protein. Protein isn’t moisture. When all of this was coming out about Mielle, I was not immediately convinced that it was Mielle’s fault. Not saying it was the users fault either. I think this could be a learning lesson in both parties. It is crazy that they have a daily styler with henna in it though because brands say you should use other products in the collection together but I would never do that with collection! I didn’t even buy the whole rosemary and mint line. I bought two pieces because no one needs that much strengthening products on a day to day basis. I really think we need to be doing more research before buying stuff too. We can’t just see our favorite KZbinr use something and then we go blindly buy and use it.

The videos I’ve seen on some of the formulations puzzle me. I’m curious as to why these products were formulated the way they were. I’ve never used many of these brands because I make my own and have since 2008.
@FTYC20222 ай бұрын
I can tell you before even watching the video that it was the essential oils used in her serum and other products. The rosemary oil was not diluted enough. I tried it and immediately rinsed it out. I could tell it was too strong. The shampoo was as well and it was also very drying. I steep my own fresh rosemary for my scalp, but thought I would try something new. Never again.

I don't believe the issue is henna. I only used the mielle rosemary oil and still experienced issues. I think the culprit are the oils in the ingredients. Some essential oils contain irritants that can, over time, cause irritation on the scalp that may lead to hair loss (eg. camphor, carnosol, cineole in rosemary). Oils feed the fungal bacteria that cause dandruff (Malassezia yeast) which can also increase scalp irritation.

Hello! You are correct, I never said it was henna explicitly. This video was to shine light on the fact that henna/henna extract is in the product and that we need to beware of what we are buying and using. I am aware the lower an ingredient is on the the list the less potent it is, however; henna is very potent and affects people differently.

While i agree with being more aware of what we consume, however; as nurse, i CANNOT expect my patient to have the same level of knowledge and understanding of drugs or medications or function of the body as me. It is my job as a nurse to make sure that im aware of possible harm or that i educate my patient about how to take medications, if not i failed my job. If you cant formulate or your not adequately knowlegeable as a chemist, then you shouldnt be working in careers that can effect the public. That is the responsiblity you take on when you take a title such as nurse, doctor, chemist, manufacturer. That being said, since we know that many manufacturers are very careless or possibly even attempting to harm black consumers by altering ingredients, we must be extra vigilant.

In my experience this product line is very potent. It’s not for protein sensitive hair or hair that has been neglected. If your hair is dry don’t use it! It will not provide enough moisture to help. I use the deep conditioner consistently because my hair is fine and breaks easily but I do not use any of the other products because that would be overkill. Also, naturals have a bad habit of leaving rinse out products in for too long. Stop leaving deep treatments in over night. Rinse it out when the instructions says to.

Hello, I’m a newbie to your channel and enjoying your content! Listening to the fact that Henna is included in some of Mielle’s ingredients, it should have come with a disclaimer or educational preface. Most consumers who use Mielle are trusting that whatever strengthening ingredients are in there products are going to do more good than harm. How many products out there that say they contain a particular helpful ingredient, but it’s not that much of that ingredient included to do harm or good. It may be a teensy amount. But, due to the potency of Henna, a company can’t just arbitrarily throw that in there as an ingredient and assume that the consumer knows how to use it properly! I personally have never used Henna and learning more about aryuveda through KZbin channels such as Curly Proverbz and now your channel. But, had I not watched those channels and just bought Mielle thinking that whatever is in here is going to grow and strengthen my hair, I would be in trouble too! Just sharing some points from someone who doesn’t watch KZbin a lot and now researching different ways to grow my hair, hence aryuveda. Sorry for the misspell.😊

1. Your skin looks great 2. Mielle should have done a better job making it clear that the Rosemary and Mint line was a PROTEIN and strengthening line. Many years ago, I got the shampoo, deep conditioner and the oil from the line and the first wash day that I used it, I noticed my hair was dry. I used them together one more time and it was even worse. That is when I stopped using the shampoo altogether (there is no need for protein in a shampoo) and only used the deep conditioner like once a month. Very sparingly. I still have some left. There is no reason for all of those products to be together as one line. Period.

I notice phrasing like "educate ourselves," being used a lot in regards to this Mielle fiasco. I've been a natural for over 20 years. Since I was 15. I'm old enough to remember OG naturals and how they inspired better healthful treatment of ourselves and to be aware of what we're putting on and in our bodies. In other words we be reading. Idk who these people think they're talking to? Naturals had to do our own research, establish our own science. Now major corporations are gaslighting us as if we don't do this. Listen. I used 1 product from Mielle, and that was the rosemary oil. I used it 1x a week, diluted it in water before applying. I read every bit of the bottle, front to back. The center of my scalp and some of my edges were burned OUT. It hurt. I'm still recovering. I'm very literate. I follow instructions. This is not a consumer issue.

Right the OG naturals were heavily DIY or seeking out products from the health food store. I hope your scalp recovers soon!

Hello! Great points. I think some companies are unfortunately playing on peoples' ignorance when it comes to hair care. If I am having issues with my hair and I am not sure what is going on or how to remedy the situation, and then I see a new collection come out marketing a solution for damaged hair; if the person is desperate enough they will more than likely buy the new collection. It's kind of like when you go to the doctor and they give a diagnosis or prescribe medicine the average person is going to believe them or adhere to their guidelines, because they are the "professional."
@Ferrist13 ай бұрын
@@KlassicallyKept That could be true. In my experience I applied on virgin hair, with a healthy scalp. I'd purchased the oil before the acquisition with zero problems. Shortly after P&G acquired Mielle was when I saw issues. I'm not prudish about large corporations, or name brands so I'm not feeding into conspiracy theories or the idea of sabatoge. Shoot I use to relax so I'm not hung up about chemicals in products, as long as I'm informed. I'm not high strung about hair. So when I say P&G probably used spoiled or comprised ingredients I'm saying it as objectively as possible.

If you listen to curly chemistry video in the last two weeks she talks about this and she mentions a particular ingredient that's in the I believe the scalp oil I'm not sure of the rosemary mint line, but I believe it was just a scalp oil and there's a particular ingredient in there that comes in two grades cosmetic and a commercial grade in the commercial grade is used in antifreeze 🤷🏽♀️ so my guess and this is not what she said, but I'm saying there's a possibility that there was a mixup with that particular ingredient and the commercial grade was used instead of the cosmetic grade. It has the same exact name. And ever since the creator of Mielle sold her company that will also mean a new manufacturing and production department meaning a whole different set of people making the products.... somebody dropped the ball and didn't know what they was doing and purchase the wrong ingredient grade because I don't know if people was having issues with this product three years ago used it, I never really use the product. I tried it maybe about four times and it took my hair out. My daughter used to use it pretty regular and her hair came out to less than an inch small in the back the whole back part of her head since she stopped using it and I'll begin to make my own her hair is flourishing. I don’t think adding Henna on the front would have helped. I didn’t know this info about Henna as I thought it was simply a hair dye. I think it would help if the companies did a tutorial of their products and explain what the purpose of each is and how to use it correctly.
