Extended Footage Of Ken Dodd Unveiling The Laurel and Hardy Statue

CLIP DESCRIPTION: It all began as a dream for the late Laurel and Hardy museum curator Bill Cubin but now, 17 years later thanks to funds raised by the 'sons of the desert', the Laurel and Hardy statue has now been erected in Stan Laurel's home town of Ulverston in Cumbria.
Comedy legend Ken Dodd performed the unveiling ceremony and a great day was had by over 2000 fans from all over the world. Press and television coverage was full on and I was lucky enough to be given a place in the press area right at the front so here's some extended and exclusive footage from the day which you didn't see on the news. The sun was shining in Ulverston and I congratulate my fellow sons of the desert for this wonderful achievement. Bill Cubin would have been very proud of this moment which left us all with a lump in our throats. Thanks to Eric Woods for taking the bull by the horns and fronting the campaign to raise the funds.

Thanks for posting the footage. It was a couple of stops over exposed. I would have liked knowing who the people were that were tagged. What are their credits or connections to this event? I'm an American Son of the Desert. I only know Eric Woods who we see in the video. I did appreciate that you kept the camera positioned and zoomed in close. Thanks for your efforts-glad you were there to record this event.

@ freelance - I'll help if I can. The Forum has not been available online for a long time, but my memory may serve. The guy in the wheelchair is Chris Coffey. The guy in the fez @ 1.25 is Del Kempster. The lady in the car is Mayor Brenda Marr. The lookalikes are Graeme Hardy & Jem Frazer. The guy on the balcony is the Ulverston Town Crier. Graham Ibbeson is the sculptor who made the statue. The lady in the wheelchair is Lucy Cubin, widow of the beloved Bill, who originated the idea for the statue, founded the world's first Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston, greeted HM Queen on her visit, when he was the Mayor, and established the Sons of the Desert in Britain. Greatly missed, and a real shame he could not be there to see the results of what he started. Sadly, Lucy died in December 2017. Hope that helps.

@@mrsbrownandhercat Just one small correction : the lady in the car is actually Mayor Janette Jenkinson. Her name is on the plaque attached to the wall behind the statue. I play in a band with her husband, Derek. Cheers !
