I am a Muslim man, who was born a Muslim, and I have had my share of heartaches, one failed marriage, happy remarriage, and now have grown up daughters, all of which I believe has given me very a good perspective on this issue. My advice is that the most important thing in marriage is friendship and having common values. And just having the same religious beliefs is enough. You don't need to find a very pious person, because people change over the years. The one who is not pious now may become one someday. I emphasize friendship because it can create a caring relationship. After all, marriage is about caring and taking responsibility for the other person. Do test the person you are going to marry, not once but many times, to see if that person will stand by you through hard times. Converts need not marry born-Muslims just because they are more knowledgeable about Islam. It might be better for them to marry another convert from their own country or a born-Muslim who was born in the same culture. That way, there are better expectations and understandings in that marriage and fewer cultural issues. I have seen many Western women converting to Islam to marry a Muslim immigrant but then losing their faith after the divorce. That's heart-wrenching for many Muslims like me. In the end, I would say that a good marriage has a lot to do with luck, but with a caring relationship and *fidelity*, even a not-so-perfect marriage will survive. Marriages do no survive by faith alone.

I think this advice is wise generally speaking but is not suitable for the young man above, Altair El Haddad. That a woman is uninitiated is vitally important to him, he will not even consider the alternative so I think he should be free to fulfil his desire - he is not asking for something he is not presenting himself. I am 27 years old from Türkiye.. gratuated from english language teaching but now i am taking active role as a volunteer teacher at a madrasa in which Kur'an and tefsir are taught. Alhamdulillah we have lots of students and people who come to learn. I would like to marry but there are some barriers stand in front of me.. the expenses of marriage and the difficulty of being active role in social life(i must leave this volunteer work and have to work as a english teacher, because the salary of being a volunteer just only for my basic needs and it's not enough to sustain my future family) i mean the sins, immorality, people who backslide.. so definitely out of madrasa is not for me.. i make duas for a good opportunity to marry with one who dedicate her life islam and teblig.. Kuran and the tefsir of Risale-i Nur are my life.. and i want to protect my half of iman with marriage and just only live for these purposes with my future wife (pray) :)

Don't give up. Online sites are the best. The problem generally is that women like you are looking for younger men who are chasing younger women. So, if you are willing to find an older guy, may be you would have better luck.

During the time of Prophet(PBUH), the process of Nikah used to take days. Weeks at max. No adult would be found unmarried. Now we have a pendemic of unmarried people. Specially in western world there is no excuse where basic requirements of life are garrented by the state regardless. It is a desease of the heart. Nikah is as simple as- let's say Bismillah and work as a team.

@@The_Chairperson : I would say that it is the corruption spread by modern environments and as emigration to Non-Muslim countries has spread in the 'akhiro -zaman' ie end times. We are, thus, typically seeing a lot of men wanting the easy pleasures (haram relationships) but without delivering any emotional care or responsibilities of finance. It is the men who are wanting to evade that financial responsibility and or loyalty to a single person. In English there is a saying, ''enjoying life's rich pickings but without the responsibilities'.

The reason for not getting married is exactly, sister, what you said. Do not rush. In fact, now when I look back, I feel so blessed that I did not get married. That time I was upset why. However, when I look back, I feel great. By being single I had to spent time and time to find who I am. That is precious. Yes it is a very expensive experience. However, hamdoullilAllah. I was a new Muslim who had no idea what I was doing about marriage. I married a guy from Pakistan and thought he was a practicing Muslim who was knowledgeable and who could teach me about Islam. 2 years later i brung him to American only to learn he only used me for a green card and even worst to find out he didn’t pray he was not a practicing Muslim. It depends on why one marries. Although, I agree on the mahr (dowry) now as I didn’t get anything from my last (only) marriage as I was naive! I was under the impression that one marries to complete half their Deen! However, ended up in divorce! The issue of dowry is mentioned in The Quran in Surah Nisa and it’s the woman’s right.

To be totally honest I just don't know how to go about finding a practicing Muslim wife now, I've spent a few years single after a divorce just to figure out where and how it all went wrong and to rebuild myself. My marriage affected eventually my Deen after a lot of patience and mental health got then affected with confidence destroyed and leading to some depression. I have fought back and never took for even one day the anti-depressants as my Mother made me promise to never do so and now being a lot more balanced in my Islaam after spending a lot of time researching past 6 months into what type of Islaam kept the Muslims strong, united and spread Islaam in its golden ages from 340 Hijri till 1340 Hijri. There is a massive revival going on right now of traditional Orthodox Sunni Islaam, some are doing it in a harsh way as they extremists groups as coming in the way of Muslim Unity and Progression and some in a more balanced and gentle way. Dealing with Atheism and LGBTQ and mass world corruption is now being headed by the Traditional Sunni Islaam. I hope to find a wife who I can sit with daily and read a page of the Qur'an with correcting our Tajweed and a classical Tafseer in Arabic, a classical Book on the Seerah of our Prophet SAW and a book on Purification of the soul which most of us lack today, then we put a schedule for a few smaller subjects a few days a week to read together, even for 20 mins. If she don't know Arabic then I'll teach her from my heart to practice basic phrases and then conversations, lol. That's how I learnt with accompanying Arab students when I traveled abroad years ago. Trying to read the Tahajjud a little would be great even for 15 mins after improving ones Qur'an. Trying out different Duas and Adh'kaar of the Prophet SAW, going to Umrah or Hajj or to any Muslim country for short intensive study courses and retreats, joining in charity projects for orphans for the Syrians, this kinda stuff would be my Dream Come True and Jannah in this life if I find that kinda wife.
