Hey Lauren, you are quite some special skipper. The Captain of your destiny. You are a spectacular role model for girls and women of every age and men of all ages as well. I hope that you find a way to capitalize on your talents and self-taught skills and motivate girls, women, and guys of all ages to reach out and seek their dream. If they don't have one when first meeting, seeing, or hearing about you, that's OK. They can just pull one out of their head or heart and go for it. If, later, on reflection, they can do the all-American thing, and change direction or their dream. I'm proud to know you and to share your dreams. Never, never doubt yourself.

Love your channel, Lauren … loved this episode, especially for your honesty in sharing your nerves before the passage. I’ve been a sailor and professional seafarer all my life - those pre-sail nervy vibes are a Thing. Always. If you ever find yourself untie the lines without feeling a tad apprehensive, be afraid! Good luck with the upkeep and maintenance. Hope that windlass comes good. 🎉

Lauren, I have to say you are doing an excellent job capturing your adventure, and solo captaining your boat. It looked like the weather was on your side. After the last video, I wanted to ask if you ever get static electricity build up in your rigging (Saint Elmo's Fire) while traveling under cloudy? I had it happen once, while downrigging for salmon. There was sparks bleeding of the rod tips. I brought in the lines, and headed for shore. Not sure how a sailboat handles it 🤔. So great to see you surprising your Grandfather. He seems like a fun southern gentleman. I hope youhave many more happy memories together. Can't wait to see where your adventures will take us. The job you are doing sharing you story is excellent, keep it up. Love the b-role and the music mix. Looking forward to your next video, until then, be happy, be safe, and enjoy being with your family.

Enjoy your channel. Good job sailing your boat. I single hand a 35 foot Choi Lee on Lake Superior. To raise the anchor, especially when set hard in mud, I put the engine in forward slowly and click on the Auto Pilot . Then I pull up the anchor, no windlass, until the chain is straight down and then quickly hook it around a cleat and let the momentum of the boat pull the anchor free. In tight quarters I'll leave the anchor hanging a bit of the bottom and steer the boat out of harms way, before stowing the anchor. To pull in sheet lines I usually head up to where the sail starts to kill and pull the line as tight as I can before easing down again. Saves a lot of cranking. Also I have auto tack on my auto pilot. That's an awesome feature for single handed sailing. Keep sailing and keep publishing those videos.

Glad you got to surprise grandad these things are important. Thinking about the Windlass no doubt you have repaired it by now but if not make up another short bridal only about 3 feet that attaches to a cleat then you can haul chain and clip the short bridal to stop the chain falling back. It would also be good if you wanted to catch your breath.

Every one needs their one bad Gulf Stream crossing to know better the next time. Mine was in 1987 on a 38 foot Morgan sloop, when I was 29. Me and four friends pulled out at 9:00 pm from Fort Lauderdale, heading to Bimini, with winds out of the north around 20-25 knots. But, we were on a schedule, we only had a few weeks off from work, and we weren't waiting for good weather to cross. Eight hours later, more seasick than I had ever been in my life, we came up on Bimini. Back then, you didn't have the Bimini Sands channel and there were no markers, you just had to know how to get in, and we weren't trying it in the dark. But, sitting there, just a few hundred yards off the beach, waiting for daylight, seasick as hell, I actually almost jumped in and swam to shore. But, I'll never do it again. I do wish I had continued to do back then, what you are doing now. It was fifteen more years before I went back to the Bahamas after that trip. But, I sure go now every chance we get! And, single handing is one of the biggest challenges you can have. Our last Bahamas trip, my wife got sick and we flew her home and I singled handed our Catalina 42 back to Mississippi form Miami by myself. You're right. There isn't room for mistakes when you're by yourself. Really enjoying your videos!

I think you could have a LOT of fun if you took the 2023 spring- summer sailing season to the French Riviera in the Med, and then rotate into the South Pacific for "summer" in winter since Southern Hemisphere. :) In the Med you could also visit the yacht shows in Monaco, Cannes, and other places to see some mega yachts, and, perhaps charter for some Hollywood faces that are somewhat frequent around the French Riveriara. Sailing for Euros when 90% of Europe and 1/2 of Hollywood is on the French Riviera could, perhaps edge Capt. Lauren into an even bigger boat and/or expand into hiring at least one crew for the jobs that Mako cna't really help with. :P

I like the way you are understanding with your mom's mistake. Mother's and Daughters who're close, that's an attractive positive thing for those of us who understand the implications of the opposite situation. Also I have strong feeling you could have chosen a much more insulated less intrepid path for yourself. That you've exposed yourself to a bit of that seemingly insurmountable problematic wall of unending struggle that the majority of humanity must contend with daily say's that you're a warrior, in the best Buddhist way.

About Circumnavigation - 1. You can not pick your weather. 2. Most do it on smaller boats because a 52' can be too much to save for one person in a storm. 3. The auto-helm will break in a bad storm. 4. There is nothing to do in the middle of an ocean but hold on for you life. 5. Climbing Mt. Everest is one thing. Enjoying it is another. 6. My X wife is dead because she tried it alone. 7. My crew agent is dead from eating bad meat overseas. 8. In the middle of an ocean you are always alone but always alone. 9. Just the two of us is a beautiful thing. 10. If you do what you love you will never work again in your life, but you are not going to love this.
