At the risk of sounding like a jerk I would suggest using a respirator or a good construction dust mask when sanding, even on deck. I have a small sailboat I work on and I think all the chemicals involved in marine anything are not happy things to have in your lungs even a little bit. I use a full face respirator when dealing with marine paints, solvents, sanding epoxy with fiberglass mat etc... What you are doing is amazing and very empowering to watch. Keep up the good work!
@laurenlanders2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! And I will be doing it next time I am doing work like that for sure!

@@laurenlanders I make my wife and kids use them if they are doing a project w/spray paint or sanding. I painted for many years and god knows probably breathed in a lot of bad stuff but always use them now for everything. It's just good hygiene, like putting on suntan lotion or flossing and will help you live a longer healthier happier life.

Just started watching your channel. Pretty cool. Dont sound so glum about things going wrong on the boat. A boat (in my opinion and owning boats for 45 years) is a constant repair item. More so than a house or car. Your boat is a mechanical/electrical item. And on top of that, it lives in the corrosive salt water. So you just have to kind of expect it. Take it in stride and everything will be ok!

So I've only watched a few episodes... Have you thought of buying some fine fabric mesh screen that attaches to hatches with Velcro or other attachment system. We use such for the barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico. You can buy the fabric and make your own.

Hey Lauren from Aussie, great channel, we always dig a strong, capable Woman who can do it herself, well done. And u have a gorgeous boat. What I did for storage was buy 10 clear containers, filled them then wrote in permanent marker what the contents related to, it was Epic, but wow now I've got tidy boat and I now know where stuff is straight away. It also helped me find and get rid of gear I so had too much of, so win win. Thanks for sharing, let's go Sailing 🇦🇺🌈🌞

Ms. Landers, one simple question: why don't you have an electric windlass that works? I'm sure one of your supporters would contribute one asap. Watching you pulling the anchor was comic, and inspiring, but I had my anchor manual for a few years and it was horrible. Then I installed the electric windlass with all the goodies, and by God, a new world appeared before me! I had a sailboat.

You Messy! Suggestion: Take the essential tools that you might need in an emergency repair up near the hatch. I have tried to dive in 3 foot of water to try and retrieve a handpump that was stored in the bow after an errant rock decided to hole me. Clothes and line to the bow, staples midship and tools at the stern has become a well ingrained practice. Seeing you stuff the plastic containers sent chills up my barnacles. Anything related to mechanical needs to be in the area of the engine. We placed several of those headlamps all over the boat. Holding a flashlight with no cabin lights makes for a foolish sailor.
