Avoid Seed Destiny like the plague, Seed was... alright for the first half, kinda dipped in quality at the latter half(though still kinda entertaining to watch). I wanna say watch 00 first season. As for Zeta Gundam, I wanna say use the movie as the medium for the first... maybe 21 episodes or so? Then switch to the TV version. Mostly because I was watching the Zeta Remastered, and getting to the point where Kamille got the Zeta just felt... slow. It didn't exactly feel like much got done either, on either side of the river. While I suppose that it was the intention, having to _watch_ all of it happen can be very, _very_ boring depending on the person. Wing Gundam... Eh, its story is probably pretty flat in comparison to a good chunk of the Gundam Shows, but I still love it anyways, if only because of Endless Waltz. Definitely watch Unicorn like the video tells you to.

Unicorn was my first introduction into the world of Gundam. Watched it basically on a random whim almost 3 years ago. I undoubtedly didn't get all the references to older Universal Century works, but it still opened my mind with all the topics it hit on so well. Having gone back and watched all the older series,then seeing unicorn again,I love it even more. It's the ultimate love letter to the Universal Century. My favourite Gundam, and one of my top ten favorite anime of all time. It's beautiful in every way.

Banagher didn’t become a NewType when piloting the Unicorn. He enhanced and evolved his already owned powers while piloting the beast. If you watched the series completely you’d see the flashbacks he had as a child (hence the partial reason he left his father’s side). After all to prove this theory he does notice the Unicorn (which Cardeas Vist states that no one could spot)

I watched the Origin, blitzed through ZZ, saw Char's Counter Attack, and finished Unicorn all in the span of around 3 months or so ending now (just finished Unicorn) as I write this message. I've seen the OG Gundam, Zeta, the 08th MS Team, Stardust Memories, and the War in the Pocket over the past few years. The protagonist was already a newtype before piloting the Unicorn. So were his closest friends. You have to watch carefully. Notice when characters are able to stare off into the distance and miraculously spot whomever they're looking for. Notice how some characters cheat death and are stated to be good at doing just that. It might seem like plot armor, but Gundam Unicorn rewards repeat viewings. Cardias suspected his son was a newtype and put him through intense training, which caused his wife to leave and take Banager. When Banager confronts Cardias in the Unicorn during the destruction of Megalonica, toward the beginning, Cardias activates his latent training by the use of a subliminal phrase, and gets him to automatically recite Newtype philosophy. Suddenly they're no longer arguing, and Banager is being asked if he's ready.

My first Gundam experience was IBO and while I did enjoy it I felt as if it was missing something. Then one of my friends, who at the time was buying and building GUNPLA, told me about a Gundam series that they really disliked. A story about some teenage beta male who cries his way through a war. I thought "it can't be that bad" and so I decided to watch, at the very least, the intro the series. The second after the opening had finished I turned to him and said "Oh god, that was the single greatest anime opening sequence I've ever seen". From that moment I knew I was going to fall in love with Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. The compassionate, emotionally charged story, engaging characters, empathetic narrative, exquisite animation, riveting soundtrack and incredible mech on mech set pieces all culminated into what I believe to be one of anime's most humanist stories ever told. Nothing captures the essence of pure optimism, of hope, quite like the launch of the RX-0. For these reasons - and so many more - Unicorn will always be my favorite Gundam series. Sure, I may not have seen 'em all, but even so...

Yeah, Zeta Gundam is pretty campy, and sometimes the Gundam shows directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino aren't the best places to start. In addition to Gundam Unicorn, I'd also recommend Gundam: The Origin, War in the Pocket, and the 08th MS Team. You could try watching the compilation movies instead of the 1979 and Zeta Gundam tv series, but I still have yet to see the movies for myself.

But until I either read the novels, or they finish the Hathaway Trilogy, I consider Unicorn to be my ending to the UC timeline. The Gundam timeline as a whole has a huge timeline consistency issue, especially the farther out you go. The first example of this is Char's character change between Zeta and CCA. Sure, we can fill in the blanks, but it would be so much better if he made an appearance in ZZ, that way we could understand what actually happened to him. Its a similar issue with Unicorn and Hathaway. Hathaway seems great, and I'm totally willing to believe that Unicorns' messages went no where, but I need a reason.

Yeah, sorry Lava but I strongly disagree. Sure, Unicorn CAN be watched without watching any other UC series and be enjoyed. But not experienced. You dont understand the weight of Full Frontal's role if you dont understand Char's actions thorought the years. Or Bright's sterness if you havent seen him care for other Gundam pilots. Or fully comprehend Marida's pain without having cried for Plu or Plu 2. Gundam Unicorn must be earned, not simply be watched. Otherwise, the purpose of the show is lost. Still, cool vid as always.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree that Unicorn becomes a lot more significant after watching the UC Gundam shows that have come before it; my only reasoning for why I think it can work as an introduction to the series is because I wasn't very familiar with the Universal Century as a whole when I watched Gundam Unicorn, and that's what mostly got me interested in the franchise. I'm only speaking from personal experience, so it's possible that others may not feel the same way that I do.

CaptHawkeye I kinda agree but at the same time disagree: Yes, the story is fully watchable and good without prior knowledge of the franchise, but a lot of the impact of the story is lost if you don't experience before how many lives were lost during all these conflicts. If you don't know the character of Char Aznable, you won't realize the truly BIG impact of his supposed return in Full Frontal. If you don't know who Amuro Ray, Kamille Bidan, or Judau Ashta are, then you won't understand the sentiments of Bright Noa towards the new pilot and the same goes with Ple and Ple Two in relation with Marida Cruz. I would say Unicorn as a whole is a love letter to the Universal Century and it (in my opinion) should be watched as that. Knowing the conflict and all these characters is essential to truly grasp the meaning of what the Unicorn Gundam represents.

It's true that a lot of impact would be lost without watching the previous entries, but Unicorn is still in of itself a solid show that has elements that you could understand even without previous knowledge. The gap of knowledge it gives to newcomers does nothing but entice more interest to the franchise as a whole, and it eventually could lead to a rewatch but now with the experience of the previous entries. After all, this is a series that is worth seeing more than once... And well, to see it "blind" does come with its own unique experience that you wont have after knowing it all.

What he is meant is after that. The federation mobile suits are the one that is being reverse back into the unassembled state. The crystallization has happened because Banagher fused with the psycho frame. (Banagher enter into the psycho frame) Then he reverses Unicorn back from being in crystallization state. Unicorn isn’t just a Gundam, it’s THE Gundam. In lore, regardless of timeline, most Gundam’s bottom-line purpose remains the same: bringing people together and guiding them to the future. Here's where you're wrong about the writer of the novel. Yes, he does want Japan to have more military power, and that is definitively conservative for Japan, but he's not an imperialist. He just wants Japan to be able to stand on its own, and not always have to turn to the states for military service. Gundam Unicorn is the series that gave me hope for humanity while also challenging my hope at the same time. It's my favorite work of fiction ever.

He is also wrong about the "pro" war comment, to be an Imperialist doesn't = Pro War, to be Right Wing also doesn't = Pro War. It's why that part of the video is a tad cringe worthy. It's based off bad assumptions. As I said in an older comment, you have to know the real world politics behind Gundam, and Japan itself to really catch what the story "original" story anyways is getting at. If you're oblivious to it will likely fly over your head. There are a series of videos by the Mad Monarchist about the Japanese Empire during the 2nd Sino Japanese War and WWII. They're good "For Dummies" videos to kind of get in the head of a modern Japanese Imperialist's view of history, and it really shows in Unicorn when you watch it. It has a huge Historical Revisionist Vibe in the Early Episodes at least. Which tickled my funny bones, as I knew a lot of people wouldn't even notice. Also Imperialist in Japan likely means something different than say in the USA or Europe, being even without foreign territory Japan was still an Empire. To be an Imperialist in Japan is to be a supporter of the Emperor, and is more along the lines of a Monarchist in Europe. Closest European example would likely be Germany, and the reinstallment of the Hohenzollern house as Kaiser, ie not the only German Royal Family but the one that "Lead" the German Empire, and unification of all the German... most of the German states, ie German Empire. It like Japan was an Empire with a Pseudo Emperor without really holding foreign land.

+Kevin not just that the last Gundam 0083 for example reference the Satsuma Rebellion with ending basically being the Battle of Shiroyama. Despite most of the story feels more like a Reference to ODESSA which was an operation which smuggled Nazis and former Nazi wealthy into exile in foreign lands with the hope of rising again to reclaim their homeland, which never came. They helped finance Werewolves which was a code name from the time of the war and post war period, pretty much a pro Nazi Germany Resistance Fighter force while under allied occupation. Their operations quickly stopped within about a year with only very small scale attacks since. Reprisals by the allies often outweighed any gains so most werewolves disbanded.

Me as a fourteen years old has watched unicorn,Battlelogue currently watching witch from mercury and turn A And I am telling you Gundam is not that that friendly,it is realistic about war and showing us that not even kids or elderly are even spares from this, Iron blooded orphans shows us about kids being forced to be veteran Soldiers and many died because of that war, The UC Century shows us that both sides don't want this war to happen but it did because of stupid reasons such as politics or law that went too far for no reason, causing a war to break out , examples like having a war just to have the Laplace box secret in unicorn series and fighting against each other to decide whether the moonrace and the earthrace will stay in peace together shown by turn a gundam,not even the end yet, Gundam even shows us how hell and terrifying it is, especially that may even happen anytime, the innocents die over a war for nothing, fighting for nothing，Greediness for extra land and money or a capital that started a war that it shouldn't have, Gundam shows us reality of humans, it is just like the concept of war we have in the years and timelines, if you are not strong enough to watch the most depressing series, then don't watch because every UC century is showing devastating wars and character dying one by one

I have to say, pretty much every UC gundam does it's best to humanize zion or at the very least try's to show it's people and their perspective. the entire theme of gundam is that humans are imperfect, and we fight for many reasons. it doesn't make us bad, it's just a result of an inability to understand circumstances of others... which is why the most powerful beings within gundam all have this ability. the nirvana of gundam is perfect empathy and complete understanding. the only real evil is the war itself, and people that push for it to continue because they either benefit or profit from it.

Wasn't he a cyber newtype who became a true newtype? Likewise, Riddhe wasn't shown to be any sort of newtype, but he definitely was by the end. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on this.

Jeffrey Williams well from what I understood the la plus system was created to indenting true new types and since banagher was shown to definitely be one and riddhe at the end of the series that must mean they where always ‘true new types’ the confusion is that the anime states that banagher underwent tests and training not unlike a cyber new type but doesn’t state that he was one

For Banagher, the way I understood it is that as a kid he was trained in a similar way to a cyber newtype to develop his potential as a Newtype. Meanwhile Riddhe awoke his potential as a newtype when he piloted the Banshee.

It is indeed one of the most well present UC arc, and you can really tell what the japanese can do if they have enough budget to make something great. Unfortunately, so many great book/story were either mis-told, wrongly represented because low budget issue.

I don't think it is a good entry into the franchise, but it's not like you can't... Just Keep In Mind, that the Newtype space magic in this one is WAY more than anything in the franchise, I'd even go as far as to say it's kinda like Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker, your suspension of disbelief will be STRECHED even for Gundam... And for all the hope this show brings, it's poetic that this show doesn't add anything to the franchise, maybe except for over the top space magic for the fans who want colorful magic covering their screen 24/7.
