Elephants with an upright trunk position are considered good luck, you might put that in your listing! Hi. The very interesting carved wood statue is of Shoulao, (Shou Lao), God of longevity. Usually recognizable by his tall, over sized forehead, which represents wisdom and a long beard representing long life. Attributes include peach and a staff, both symbols of longevity themselves, and said to come from Xi Wangmu's magical garden in Heaven where the fruits of longeivty (peaches) grows, and sometimes a deer or a crane. He sometimes also holds a scroll in his right hand. This was from Gotheborg.com, a free source for information about Asian porcelain, in which medium Shou Lao is often depicted. hope this is helpful.

Great haul, Karen! The blue figurine looks Mayan, pre-columbian Latin American art. The cat is a Puma or Jaguar and is native to the Yucatan peninsula. I have a piece of art that has similar design that I purchased in Palenque, Chiapas Mexico.

Hi Karen, I just realized that you are Mellisa’s mom! I have been watching her videos for awhile now, but just recently found you. She is so lovely and such a sweetheart and you both have the most calming demeanors, now I see who she gets that from! I also have 3 daughters, my oldest is around the same age as Mellisa, and she is the one who started thrifting in college and introduced me to the concept, which is how I got started selling back in ‘03. On the pottery piece, take a photo with your phone camera of the writing on the bottom. Many times when you look at the photo you will be able to see it more clearly, plus you can enlarge the photo if needed. I have done this with labels in which the print was unreadable with my eyes (I also wear glasses) and was able to read the print so much easier.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that buys things and not know anything about the item. I very seldom run comps at the store, I go by how much I like the item, is it a quality piece, is it vintage or antique or if I just get good feels for something. But I do my research, I am always looking and learning because I have that passion. Is it possible to do a tissue paper & side-pencil rubbing over the pottery name on such as that beautiful art piece? Then show the viewers for their guesses? I have often thought that a small homemade pad of tissue paper squares and a wide pointed or wide sided pencil would be great when thrifting when our eyes won’t focus enough. It ends up like those “drawings” kids make in 1st grade by putting different leaves under a page and rubbing the sides of crayons to get a multicolored Fall piece for Mom/Dad/G’ma/ Etc. I was born in 1952. I believe it was Drew, Sue, or Jocelyn where I picked up that I am “Mid-century” and my son, 44, is vintage? Friends say I look ten years younger than I am,68, and you look even younger than I would guess, much younger than what you shared. Beautiful items!

If you look up Lowell Davis you will find his daughter is also an artist and she can repair his pieces. So definitely list the sheep. Believe you underpriced the truck, some of his smaller pieces sell for that amount. Great haul
