Fun fact: capybaras and crocodiles in many places are actually best friends. Despite being able to feed a croc for a good while these two creatures are the real world nick and Judy from zootopia (or zootropolis depending on where you live). This unexpected friendship between prey and predator is said to either originate from the croc’s difficulty to eat it in one go thus making them harder food to get or even the possibility of the capybara looking out for jaguars. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

There was also little to no diversity in terms of body type and ethnicity (they were mostly all skinnier white girls with european features and unrealistically large breasts), which kind of makes me sad because as lavender demonstrated; they could be so much better. 😢

I'm gonna have to heavily disagree here. I don't necessarily dislike most of these designs, but I believe the ones from Kemono Friends represent the animals much better. Of course it's somewhat limited because not animals can be translated well into humanoid designs, but for a number of them you can squint your eyes and it really looks just like the animal. I love Kemono Friends for that exact reason- The animal designs are pulled off incredibly well.

@@ElizabethGeis I still disagree with that. Take this serval design for instance. If you were just shown that drawing with no context, what would you think about it? If it wasn't labeled as "serval" I'd have absolutely no idea it was supposed to be a serval. I'm not even being biased here with this. If you took the serval from this video, and the one from Kemono Friends, and put them side by side, which would you say a person unfamiliar with either would say represents a serval more? Plus, the characters shown in this video aren't even close to the best in terms of representing the animals they're based on. Some represent them much closer, to the point that, as I said, you could squint your eyes and really see the animal they're based on.

⁠​⁠@@KogasaTatara514I beg to differ. Sure, Lavendertowne didn’t really draw them as animal-people, but the title of the video is literally turning them into humans, not half human half animal. And for the KemonoFriends animals, the only one I think I would recognize is the first one. I wouldn’t know what animal the penguin was if they took the little penguins away. The only one I would recognize is the serval, and it just looks like a typical UwU anime cat girl. For Lavendertowne’s penguin, I would know because of the silhouette and the hat. Also if you think the designs in KemonoFriends are pulled off well, you’d be impressed by pretty much any show with animal designs. Kemonofriends designs are not unique in any way except for the animals they represent.

Lavendertowne’s designs are just so much better in my opinion. Kemono Friend’s designs just seem like they’re vaguely trying to look like the animal while focusing too much on trying to make the girls lewd. Lavendertowne’s designs however actually have interesting design features and focus more on the animal and not making them sexualised, which is so much better. Fantastic characters Lavendertowne! Can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Lavendertowne’s designs were more unique and taking the actual animal’s traits into account, and her designs were way more original, and her ideas were may more creative. KemonoFriends basically just took an anime girl and slapped some cute animal features onto it. KemonoFriends just made their characters look cutesy, while Lavendertowne’s designs looked a little more natural and more realistic. And for the emperor penguin, KemonoFriends version doesn’t even look like a penguin, it’s just the color palette. Not to mention, she even EDUCATES us while drawing, and not just in this video, in many others too! I know now a lot of poison facts because of her “Drawing Deadly Poisons As People” series. And she uses those facts in her designs to make them more accurate and unique. That’s why I love Lavendertowne’s videos and her channel as a whole.

While I don't hate the designs of the characters in Kemono Friends, I can say your designs are definitely better. The Kemono Friends designs, while neat, kinda just look like girls with animal features, while yours actually incorporates them into the design, instead of them just looking slapped on. Like I said, I don't hate their designs, but yours are so much better in comparison. Also, I haven't watched your videos in a bit, and I can say that you have improved a lot since last I saw you!! If it's okay to ask for it, there's an exotic animal named the Iriomote cat in Iriomote, Okinawa, Japan that has been labelled critically endangered since 2008 with only 100 adults that were counted. The last hope we had was a sighting on video in 2015 of one in the wild, and they're so important that they're an Okinawan national monument. Could you do a person based on this cat specifically one day? Nobody really knows about Okinawan history and how we started the praise of Shibe Inus well before Japan was founded.

It is an anime-based game, unsure if it's actually made in Japan but you have to remember that Japan is 98% Japanese and the majority of that 2% is still other east-Asian ethnicities. The lack of skin tone/body diversity in Japanese pop culture has always been a problem and I wouldn't necessarily blame the individual game for not upholding to Western standards; it's more something for the industry as a whole to work towards.

i actually talked with a zookeeper in korkeasaari zoo about their camels and they joked that they need to hide the camels in spring because they look so ugly when they shed their winter coats that people keep asking if they're okay. and to be fair they do look pretty extreme when they're shedding, the fur really peels off in chunks and i fully believe that someone might look at that and think the camels were sick if they didn't know they were supposed to do that

Fun fact about Kemono Friends is that they once did a promo with a Japanese zoo where they put cardboard cutouts of the characters everywhere. This resulted in Grape, a penguin who had been abandoned by his girlfriend, falling in love with the cutout of the penguin character. It not only stayed near the cutout most of the time but also performed courtship rituals to it. If you'd like to learn more, you can read about Grape's story basically anywhere since it was a huge online sensation a few years back

I think that lavenders drawings are more plausible and lifelike, though the games characters are made to be cute and attractive. I Just find the more diverse versions more appealing because it sells the fact they’re different species rather than girls in a costume. I love both! I do, but for writing purposes I obviously have a favorite.

@@user-uy6jk8fw7z I expect them to actually attempt to make an interesting animal human hybrid. For them to have ANY resemblance to the animals they're inspired by other than it's ears and tail. Take the penguin this artist did as an example. The shape ACTUALLY reminds me of a penguin. You would never guess ANY of the animals the girls from the game are supposed to be just by looking at their original game designs except for maybe the ones that have obvious features like cheetahs and tigers (spots and stripes) Overall the vast majority of the designs are just incredibly boring. The least they could've done is throw in a different body type but the game designers only know how to make different boob sizes 💀

Ive checked out kemono friends for a while now an i can safely say there are many designs that arent just plain boring as the ones showed in this video. Emp penguins hair and headphones actually make up the shape of the penguins beak and head, much like lavendertowne has done in her own design :) I also would like to point out many of the designs use traits for animals for unique clothing choices, like king cobra and snakes having hoods on hoodies to give the character of the shape of a snake! Kemono friends actually has a lot of really cool designs i think a lot of people arent giving credit for ^^ They also make use of hairstyles for their characters personality, like scarlet macaws hair is colored and shaped to look like the actual macaws beak! Anyways. I was just a bit pet peeved that people were criticizing it all on a few bad designs shown in the video.
