I used to work for an old man named Dan Cooper years ago. His initials were actually DB Cooper. He also bore a striking resemblance to the only sketch of the man in the plane. I joked with him one day that “hey are you that DB Cooper?” And he said “the FBI asked me that in the 1970s” and refused to speak about it again. I worked for him for 10 years. He passed away last year and I still don’t have a definitive idea.

Or were those of us who were alive when it all happened. I was 14 when this happened. HiJackings were rather "common" at the time - but this one was different. And he didn't hurt anyone - getting $200K and getting away in a relatively victimless crime makes him a bit of a folk hero. I still watch all the DB Cooper stuff because of it being such a big story from my childhood.

@codykirchner96064 жыл бұрын
He absolutely did not escape. This is one of those "mysteries" that is only a mystery until you really learn about it. He died. He absulutely died moments after jumping out of the plane. He jumped out, over mountains, in subzero temperatures, during a storm, without protective equipment. He either died before hitting the ground, or soon thereafter. Professional navy seals would not survive that jump. He is absolutely dead.

I also live in the area where this took place (not far from Mount St Helens): Just north of Portland, Oregon (between Portland and Seattle, Washington actually)... and near the Columbia River where the mysterious money was found. I have watched EVERY documentary/unsolved mystery show that comes along about this, and have my own theories (of course!) about who he was/what happened.🕵 One of the shows that came out a couple years ago, actually included interviews with Florence the Flight Attendant as well as the pilot of the airplane... It was the ONLY time that the two of them had allowed themselves to be interviewed/had spoken about the whole thing publicly since right after it happened in 1971. That was REALLY interesting, because they dispelled some incorrect "facts" that have become ingrained in the repeated versions of the story over the years.🖖

There’s also an event simular to this that happened here in Canada a few years ago. On the northern BC coast these two guys tried to rob these people in the middle of the woods. Long story short they shot and killed a couple and a famous botanist collecting samples nearby. What followed was then going deep into the wilderness with the police on their tails. Somehow this chase continued for at least a week, occasionally confirming their locations throughout with various security camera footage from small town stores. They made it all the way to Manitoba before a boat and other evidence was found ,suggesting they crashed it and killed themselves. However, no bodies were ever found.

1st plane trip: I jumped out (skydiving) and sent my brother-in-law and myself into a death spiral; 2nd plane trip: international to the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico) the summer after 9/11, so we came home on the 4th of July to EXTREMELY heightened security (lots of searches on both sides of the flights!); 3rd plane trip: business trip flying home out of LAX where a huge water main busted under the drive-up portion of the terminal, causing closures and chaos everywhere; 4th plane trip: business to California, again, but bad weather returning to Houston had us circling the airport until we only had enough gas to reroute to Austin to refuel (we were airplane #11 out of a never-ending line of planes!) so we could return to circling Houston until it was safe to land, many hours later; 5th (and last) plane trip: Disney World (Florida) to enjoy an extended vacation weekend with my son and sister's family for Star Wars week. Honestly, you never know what might happen when traveling by plane, but I figure I pretty much used up so many options in so few flights that I'm not really very keen on trying my luck again unless I need to. 🤣 Thanks for the great video; DB Cooper has always been a bit of a fascinating one for me. 💜😊💚

"DB Cooper" is my favorite unsolved mystery. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, so I've heard about it since I was a small child. I know a retired FBI agent who questioned passengers from NW flight 305 about DB Cooper. If he really jumped out over southern Washington, I think he died. It would be hazardous to jump over that area during the day with good weather. At night under stormy conditions, it's more or less suicidal. Some have speculated that he jumped later in the flight before the aircraft landed in Reno. That would be more survivable.

Coopers Bomb was flares Arranged to look like a Bomb,he obviously needed light when he landed diving in to a snow storm in the Cascade MtN,in a suit and penny slipper shoes,he had to set up a fire, obviously to get his suit dryed, did he have a accomplice on the ground but what are his chances,of landing close to him at night in storm,with no specific knowledge of where he was at,Fligjt PO ath was changed to Reno so cooper dint know ,plus he dont know the exact speed of plane,he may have told them to slow to certain speedlike150 miles an hour,but if they didn't pay much attention to that request,they could have slowed to160 mph,at the cooper landing spot woyld have been off bye miles,thats the tricky part,no real id,of Cooper Walking out of Woods,big Mystery,hadto have someone with vehicle,accomplice he reached,bye,walkie talkie or made it somehow to phone,unless he lande semi close to where he wanted,and had a power boat to get out of area,if not what else.How did he got out of woods nobody seeing him,bigger mystery,and what happen to money biggest Mystery.

I find a couple of things strange about this story first of all when he motion for this flight attendant to sit next to him and he presented the dynamite bomb to her the plane was still on the ground I don't understand why she didn't go back tomthe captain and that way the flight wouldn't take off at all and secondly I think he was so smart that he made it LOOK like he jumped out of the plane! Threw out some of the parachutes, threw out some money and either hid on the airplane PR OR they were all in on it that's my theory. Wasn't there at least lie detectors back then?
@jasmine__renee18484 жыл бұрын
So the plane was in the middle of a really bad rainstorm when they think he jumped and he had a non steerable parachute. What if when he jumped, the storm blew him in a completely different direction than what the authorities thought since they based it on the flight path? I haven't finished the video yet but this question/idea is stuck in my head.
@jasmine__renee18484 жыл бұрын
It didn't specify if it was a windy storm or just a heavy rainfall type. But if it was super windy also, that could explain why the 3 bundles on money were found in a different relatively far area from the expected drop zone🤷🏾♀️idk I may be reaching but I think it could explain some things in this mystery

My biggest question is what if they got the search area wrong? They looked at the area they were over when they felt the plane shaking, but seeing how Cooper was already very intelligent and did certain things (like the 4 parachutes) to throw the authorities off, it is not unreasonable to think he intentionally shook the plane and jumped somewhere completely later. For all we know, he could have been living his best life in the desert of Arizona while the poor FBI was looking for him in Oregon.
@VivaCohen4 жыл бұрын
I mean if he jumped with a parachute it's not inconceivable that the chute took him all the way to Tina Bar since it was so windy (although it's crazy to blindly parachute out of a plane at night in a severe store - I feel like death is not a crazy assumption at all)... But also omg the FBI "unintentionally gave him a dummy chute", If I hadn't already skydived that might put me off it lol

@danielhoehne8014 жыл бұрын
James, I've seen a couple of shows that suggest he probably lowered the aft stairway just to make then think that's when he jumped, and that he likely jumped a lot closer to Reno. The original drop zone, with mountains, forest, snow and cold, would have been crazy to jump into. Whereas outside Reno, it's wide open desert, much easier/safer landing area.
