I always loved the 5 dead husbands backstory that was introduced in the 2nd half of the episode. That was always such a "cool" part of the story with that revelation. And not only did we find out that she murdered 5 husbands, we also find out that all 5 husbands were morally bankrupt people. There are no innocent people in this whole story at all, lol. Police shows require a lot of guest appearances, every episode needs a whole new set of actors for the case’s characters. Sometimes they’re people that previously only did commercial and extras work, sometimes they are big name actors. All of the police shows are this way. It is also not uncommon for a new actor to be “discovered” by the studios because of a guest appearance on a police drama.
