If you ask me, Dr. Hutton should have gotten his medical license revoked immediately when he said that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, which caused most of his patients to die. Also, Martin Mull should have gotten an Emmy for his performance in this episode.

In case younger people need more context, this episode of SVU aired in 2009, and was based on a semi-famous AIDS denialist named Christine Maggiore, who had died due untreated AIDS in 2008. Like the character in the show, she had also passed AIDS on to her daughter, which she left untreated. Her daughter Eliza Jane died in 2005 at 3 years old. She had older son who apparently never got HIV, he would be an adult now. Like the show, Eliza Jane’s death was blamed on an allergic reaction to amoxicillin by her parents and the AIDS denialist community. A lot of people in AIDS denialist circles had the disease themselves, and they started passing away in large numbers in the late 2000’s, which is why you don’t hear about this “movement” anymore.

Thrust - is an common fungal virus that can occur most commonly in the mouth (white mouth) or in the vaginal area (also known as yeast infection). Healthy Babies can get it very easily if their formula bottles aren't sanitized enough between each use (for some babies the bottles and bottle nipples need to be washed in hot soapy water and also boiled in salted water). It can also get it if their diapers aren't changed enough. White mouth can also be triggered by certain medication - like certain inhalers for asthma for children.

@narliehs1648

Eh, not really. Sure you can take natural remedies for minor things, but not serious illnesses. You don't cure lung cancer with honey and lemon tea, for example. "Natural remedies," at best, can help with certain symptoms like a cough, sore throat, etc. They don't treat the root cause.

It’s really not, it was the quite literally the only way to prove her COD. It’s called exhumation and it’s not that uncommon in death investigations. The doctor would’ve gone on perpetuating false, harmful rhetoric and killed more people if Lisa hadn’t been exhumed.

The doctor should be prosecuted but i think thr way they treated the mother was wrong. She took her kid to a doctor. Its the doctors fault he encouraged misinformation. Its also wrong for them to exhume the childs body without the mothers consent. On the flip side, it doesnt seem to make sense that the doctor prescribed amoxicillin. Its typically prescribed for strep, which he did not say the baby had.
@NotMykl

It's also the mother's for not going to a different doctor and getting correct information. She had the DUTY to get treatment for herself and children and not infect others.

@@justincase7848 they had no choice but to dig up and autopsy Lisa. They believed a criminal act took place - which it did - and considering Susan willingly passed on HIV to the chem teacher, it would've been easy to bypass her parental rights and get an exhumation order signed by a judge (without interrupting a poker game) to conduct the autopsy.

The baby probably had never been prescribed Amoxicillin before…until the symptoms of the respiratory infection worsened. An allergic reaction to medication, food, etc can happen at anytime, even if you have used the product beforehand without any problems.
