In case younger people need more context, this episode of SVU aired in 2009, and was based on a semi-famous AIDS denialist named Christine Maggiore, who had died due untreated AIDS in 2008. Like the character in the show, she had also passed AIDS on to her daughter, which she left untreated. Her daughter Eliza Jane died in 2005 at 3 years old. She had older son who apparently never got HIV, he would be an adult now. Like the show, Eliza Jane’s death was blamed on an allergic reaction to amoxicillin by her parents and the AIDS denialist community. A lot of people in AIDS denialist circles had the disease themselves, and they started passing away in large numbers in the late 2000’s, which is why you don’t hear about this “movement” anymore.

Mom looks like they probably didn’t know that she was HIV positive.

if baby is allergic to PCN, she shud never gotten amoxicillin
@flickcentergaming6802 ай бұрын
She probably wasn't allergic, it was more likely too little, too late.
@lukerosales58792 ай бұрын
@cbq6286 Susan didn't even know Lisa was allergic. She only knew what Dr Hutton told her, and he believed in his delusional state that it was the antibiotics that killed Lisa, not the PCP pneumonia.

The baby probably had never been prescribed Amoxicillin before…until the symptoms of the respiratory infection worsened. An allergic reaction to medication, food, etc can happen at anytime, even if you have used the product beforehand without any problems.

As we know so far she's alive, though the doctors believes she wouldn't make it to high school.

She lived through the rest of the episode, but it was likely she would die before making it to high school.

If I remember correctly, it turns out that she actually had the HIV a lot longer than they ever realized.

The writers were really stretching on this one. Amoxicillin allergy causing death due to inflammation has nothing to do with untreated HIV.

I think the lawyers are stretching. Desperate to catch the doctor on any mishap.
@lukerosales58792 ай бұрын
@gorgan4714 that was the reported COD. Lisa died of PCP pneumonia but Dr Hutton in his deluded state attributed it to the antibiotics.
@NotMykl2 ай бұрын
The doctor LIED on the death certificate. Not hard to figure out.
@lukerosales5879Ай бұрын
@@NotMykl not lied, but he was delusional. He BELIEVED that the COD was an allergic reaction. I had a huge facepalm moment when he mentioned Lisa's lungs were clear, then Warner's X-Ray revealed otherwise.

If you are HIV and you are trying to be in a relationship with someone or just have a one night stand make sure you are using protection no one deserves to lose their life behind this disease I feel that you are murdering someone and I feel that a person should serve time in jail 😢💔😡
