Kitty began to lock the door to her bedroom at night and she kept two twenty-two rifles in her closet. She would not allow Lyle and Erik to have keys to the house. When the brothers came home at night, Kitty would let them into the house, even if she had to be awakened from sleep. It was apparent that something was frightening Kitty. Her fears were probably exacerbated by something the brothers' psychotherapist, Jerome Oriel, told Kitty. Kitty's psychiatrist had recommended Jerome Oziel when Erik and Lyle were ordered to undergo psychological counseling for the Calabasas burglaries. Shortly after Erik started treatment with Oziel, he gave permission to Oziel to discuss the contents of his sessions with Jose and Kitty. Kitty's fears may have been brought on by something she learned from Oziel. On July 19, 1989, Kitty went to her therapist and told him that she feared her sons were sociopaths, a psychiatric term used to describe a person who lacks a conscience. Kitty's therapist made notes of the session that indicated that Kitty was concerned that her sons were "narcissistic, lacked consciences and exhibited signs that they were sociopaths..

@lhr8833 In 1982, when Erik and Lyle were about twelve and fifteen, their cousin Diane Vander Molen stayed with the Menendez family for the summer. One night, the three cousins began to playfully wrestle. Suddenly and without warning, Lyle and Erik began to undress Diane. Without saying a word, the brothers tied her up and stripped off her shirt. Diane screamed and the brothers retreated from their attack. The brothers had attacked her like a pack of dogs, with no warning. As suddenly as the attack had begun, it ended. Around the same time, Diane experienced another attack. This time, she and Lyle were watching television. Without warning, Lyle struck. He climbed on top of her and began to fondle her breasts. Like the attack that came earlier, she had not enticed Lyle and the attack ceased as soon as she was able free herself.

I think the Menendez brothers should be released. From a legalistic perspective it may make sense to keep them in prison, but they tried everything else, like confronting his father, telling relatives, running away, and nothing worked. They endured extreme abuse since a very young age, they had terrible role models, and were under death threat. On top of that, at the age they murdered tbeir parents, their brains were not fully developed, so their judgment wasn't as formed as an adult, especially taking into consideration the almost unbearable burden they were carrying for most of their lives. Finally, they have shown remorse and have been model immates. Their unfortunate action was an isolated one, under atrocious suffering and fear.

I haven't even mentioned evidence that proves Gypsy's guilt. Ppl should watch "Becca Scoops" for a quick education on the whole case instead of repeating the defense's argument.

What I don't understand is why there was an extensive psychological evaluation of both Amber Heard and Johny Depp, presenting in court, and both had not murdered yet anyone to my knowledge. But the culprit of Menendez drama is psychological trauma or psychological and mental inadequacy such as psychopathy and inability to control itself etc, and yet I had not seen at least one normal professional in the field of psychology who would analyze, test brother and keep an eye on them in prison decoding their behavioural patterns. I am so stepping on a bee here, and it hurts! And the irony that Menendez brothers were caught not by diligent police work, but by greedy and unprofessional psychiatrist is yet another evidence that a group of psychiatrists should have participated in this trial.

These people have no idea what they're talking about. The brothers DID think they were in imminent danger the moment right before the murders after an explosive fight. And it was not premeditated. The shotguns were bought when their lives were threatened by the father after they confronted him with the abuse and they wanted to protect themselves. They thought they were going to be killed after a fight and they reacted in a state of fear and panic. That IS imperfect self-defense.

@leanneM-33 Kitty began to lock the door to her bedroom at night and she kept two twenty-two rifles in her closet. Kitty's therapist made notes of the session that indicated that Kitty was concerned that her sons were "narcissistic, lacked consciences and exhibited signs that they were sociopaths

@@bittenbech1266 Both Erik and Lyle were threatened by the father that if they told anyone he would kill them. That is enough for me to believe that if they ever tried to leave and tell the police he could kill them. And if they did run away how do we know the police would not try to bring them back for him to kill them. He most likely paid the police off being the rich, wealthy and influential man that he was. They could not take that chance. The father probably had already the police told and warned, lied to and maybe paid off in the event that the boys would try to run away. Some police are easily swayed. And even if they were not. All the father had to do was threaten he'd ruin their careers or threaten them and their families. By all accounts he was one very evil man. So they could not run away. Every one has their breaking point. And these brothers were pushed well beyond theirs. It's ridiculous that they are still in prison when life is 25 years. They have been there 1p more years than the sentence they were given. That's crazy. Given what they have been through. There's serial killers getting less than that. I dont with killing but given what they have already been through. If they were cleared and set free they probably would have been murdered by some nutter. I believe they probably had to be jailed for some short time. Maybe two years for each parent but 35 years is scandalous. It's time they were set free. It seems they want to keep the brothers in jail for the rest of their lives. They should themselves in Erik's and Lyles shoes. They wouldn't be long changing their tune. I would have cleared them. Or given them their freedom. Time Sterved from what they suffered. That was a jail sentence in itself. From birth to youth. No child should ever have to suffer thst abuse from their parents.

@leanneM-33 In 1982, when Erik and Lyle were about twelve and fifteen, their cousin Diane Vander Molen stayed with the Menendez family for the summer.

Why do you think that? There is a lot of corroborating evidence to disprove that theory. The father informed them that they were removed from the will. Their uncle, who was the executive of the estate, knew this too, well before the killings. If it's for the money, why not put more time and effort into planning? Everything they did was very rushed, getting shot guns instead of waiting for hand guns, not thinking about the mess they would leave, and quickly trying to cover up after, making plans that evening but never showed up so as a result they have no alibi, they waited for the police to show up afterwards, but when nobody showed up, they decided to leave. And if it's for the money, why confess? They confessed to their therapist. It was only due to their confession that the prosecutors were able to put together a case. Even then, they were still not able to prove premeditation. That's why it was a hung jury for both jurors.
