Just got serious about my lawn last year. Couldn't stand my neighbor's tall thick St Augustine that was taking over my yard. Nuked it with glyphosate and tenacity. Getting Tahoma 31 installed in a couple of weeks. Love the look of short reel mowed grass.

I have a small back yard. I put down thick black plastic…. To prevent sunlight….. kill the grass. No chemicals in the soil! Once, the grass was “dead”… I waited 2 weeks…. I raked up the dead grass. I applied Bermuda grass seeds with fertilizer…. Watering…. Softly every day…. For 1 week… then…. Every other day for 1 week! So far, the process seems to be working!! I did put a couple “fake” owls on the fence line to …. Hopefully prevent birds eating my seeds!

This was my case, home builders used St Aug sod on my side and Bermuda next door.., in 3 years Bermuda spread out and won. Last year I embraced the idea got to work on it.
@DanTheLawnMan9 ай бұрын
That sucks when lawns shared or close have different grass types especially Bermuda with how easy it spreads.

I think for me there was a disconnect.. it looked like you were seeding bermuda in, and all of a sudden, sod was present.

I just use a detacher on my Saint Augustine then over seed with Bermuda and the by the next year Bermuda has a basically taking over. I don’t know if I could tear up my lawn like that.

About a week you can go longer. He just reaped it until 1 day prior the sod coming in.

Awesome, welcome to the Bermuda Club! Sweet Transformation. I don't know southern Florida, what is the natural grass that tries to grow when you eliminate weeds? Does the St Augustine ever try to creep back in from outside the new sod area?
@DanTheLawnMan2 жыл бұрын
We killed off the st Augustine inside the yard and his set up won’t allow for new st Augustine to come from the neighbors yards. However the door section will have st Augustine creeping in from time to time. He will just have to keep an eye out for that section and pull the st aug out.

cool project. interesting to see it growing well under that shade. I have no xp with Bermuda and I always hear it's not shade tolerant. Where is this located (region)? I'm in South Florida and it looks very similar.
@DanTheLawnMan Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. This house is located in Miami dade. The shady areas don’t do well during fall winter especially with shorter days. But for my buddy they are starting to come back and look better now with the longer days of spring. But you are right Bermuda needs a lot of sun compared to other warm season grasses.

Took some work but I would say well worth it! I often wonder about sod and how to keep it healthy.

It’s hit and miss on sod sometimes it’s roots easy sometimes it just doesn’t take on good and you have to force it 😳

can you seed the bare patches of st ausustin grass with Bermuda seed?
@DanTheLawnMan6 ай бұрын
I would advise against it. Bermuda will take over the St Augustine in a matter of months. You’ll end up with half a lawn of Bermuda.

Bermuda is the best! It is the grass that keeps on giving as long as you have sunlight.
