Not sure, with 45,000 views, why this vid doesn't have at least 1000 comments. I loved it. One of the very best instructional vids I've ever watched on KZbin, complete with personality and humor. Genius.

Perfect. Did not realize my air vane spring was missing. Kept having to manually hold that choke lever closed to start. You saved me a ton of grief. I have been running a cheap Chinese replacement carb from ebay for 3 years with no problems. I suspect even the carbs Briggs sells are marked up Chinese carbs also. Can't go wrong for $12 for carb, spark plug, gas line, air filter, and gaskets.

Thank you for explaining all of that. Someone wired open my choke and I never knew how or why or what worked. I just knew if I removed it, I couldn't get it to start. Now I'm going to order the correct parts and see about getting it working as intended!

Thank you so much! You saved me from having to buy a new mower. I have the same mower and I had tried everything. I could not figure out why it was running so weak until your video showed me that it was the choke mechanism. It was all out of whack including that little spring which was bent up and dangling from one hook. Now she runs great again! Thank you for such an informative video!

I thought I was having an issue with my auto choke.. Had previous problems with the carb. The bowl was corroded around the edge and the gasket very iffy, so replaced the whole thing, only to find it was the choke. The arm wasn't swinging. Took it apart and somehow the metal on the choke was on the wrong side of the carb choke arm. The mower was starting now but still idling low. It wasn't until you showed the part on bending the throttle spring clip that I noticed, mine was shunted right in.. Bent it back out and the thing leapt right back to life again. Great video. Wasn't expecting it to be a full tune up, just the choke replacement, but you didn't really show an actual choke being replaced. Very very good info though.

Also known as an " aftermarket" carburetor. Any carburetor not made by Briggs and Stratton. Using genuine Briggs and Stratton manufactured parts is usually the best way to go even though it is often more expensive.

Jeff i think we need to re qualify your statement to say "Dad's should only allow their kids whether it be boys or girls to repair their lawnmowers after they have watched a KZbin video covering the same type of repair required." My son has been running Eliminator Performance Small Engine Repair for 7 years and has a KZbin channel just like you. As a 71 year old father that is extremely proud of his son for what he has accomplished and extremely educated by both him and all the other KZbin small engine repair channels i can honestly say that not only can i repair anything small engine related from watching all these excellent and some not so excellent videos but anyone else can also. This is an excellent well organised and edited video you have supplied for all viewers and really surprised there are 3 haters (likely aftermarket carb sellers on Amazon). The reason the kid broke the linkage connection piece off the carb is simply the hole in the plastic on 99% of the aftermarket carbs is always too small and by simply drilling it slightly larger it easily goes on. I have spoken with my son and he agrees and says that even he has had some issues using aftermarket carbs but for the price his customers usually opt for the aftermarket simply because of the cost savings. He also notes that over 7 years of repairs there have never been any re service issues using aftermarket carbs but has had to return a few to Amazon for ie: will not prime issues or bad aluminium casting of the carb causing voids or cold shuts. Keep up the good work love watching your videos and stay safe and healthy and social distance.

Cut the rubber fuel line (from the gas tank to the carb) in the middle and insert Briggs and Stratton Fuel Filter # 298090S. This should prevent any future fuel clogging issues. Replace the filter every 5 yrs or so. :)

The aftermarket carburetors I've bought have given me no problems and are about 1/4 price as a OEM one...I bet they are all made in China under different brands stamped on them so they can jack up the price. With clever marketing, you can sell ice to eskimos....

I've had great luck with these China made carburetors , out of the last 12 I've ordered only two were sent back . Only one that would run right and the other one as throttle body was designed wrong for my model . Always buy when you can have the free return policy , bought one off eBay with a additional $1.99 three year warranty - kinda of guarantee it would run . No difference in price between eBay and Amazon , cause I tried Amazon and had too return it and went with one from a new one from EBay . My experience 👍

Jeff, I am very greatful of your closeup video explaining how things are attached, and work together. I rebuilt the auto choke carburetor, and when put back together and running, it has high r/p/m/, then drops severely low r.p.m.s then corrects itself to high again, then drops severely low. what causes this to happen? Is the choke arm actuator not attached to the other side properly? THUMBS UP!!!

I bought an aftermarket Briggs autochoke carb on Amazon several years ago that was purported to be OEM. My customer wanted a Briggs one so I got him one. A while later I needed an autochoke for one of my mowers, the aftermarket ran fine, and it was less than $15.00 as I recall. Still using the mower after all the years. Is that the biggest hammer you have? Many times things have very forcefully been introduced to the driveway, here.

Great video... with all details shown. I have exactly the same engine with auto choke but I have one problem. It start good when the engine is cold. After 10minutes, it wont start again. The auto choke lever already moved to the front and the little choke throttle is open. Everything looks normal. After a while, I can start it and get a bit of smoke form the exhaust. Without airbox, I get little backfire. Is the card to rich? Once it started again, and it comes down in revs, it really stuck at low rev, nearly going to die. All of a sudden it catches up an runs perfectly fine. Any idea, Jeff?

The funniest thing I learned today: Confirmation bias: You were so sure it was the after market carb, and when you found it was just incompetence you still blamed the Carb. You overfilled the gas tank and then had clean it up just to drain it all out. Did you expect to mow half an acer? The GENUINE, "fancy dancy "Briggs and Stratton Carb , from B&S, (799866) is made in China.🤣🤣😂🤔 "It was not all the missing/improperly installed linkage and loose bolts or plastic parts, 'the kid probably broke': it was the carb". But really: you do not blow clean everything around the brand new carb you are installing??? And then you double down on "it is the carb" and smash it.n Too Funny: It was Agathe all Along.
