One thing i’ve done with success with larger cubic inch turbo setups is to run a large diameter downpipe straight into a boost activated cutout… then use a Y that splits into a smaller diameter pipe and some smaller mufflers in series. I have a 4” downpipe into a 4” cutout that splits off to a 3” with two straight through 3” mufflers. This sounds very close to a stock truck at idle and you can still make tons of power WOT.
@AndyR19823 жыл бұрын
LT, you should use the dash switch as a circuit interrupter switch. Use the power from the brake light switch to power the 2 step but the dash switch opens the circuit when in the off position. That way you can load the turbo with the brakes, brake light powers the 2 step and you have 2 ways of buolding boost. Let off the brake to start race, depower 2 step at the same time of releasing brakes and off you go. After you are rolling reach down and shut off switch. This is how i used to control my 2 step.

it lets you open the throttle all the way so more airflow passes through the engine to spool the turbos, but also cuts ignition timing which allows unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust where it can ignite, and help the turbo spool
@brianbird37563 жыл бұрын
In an extremely simplified description, it causes backfires in the exhaust and those backfires cause higher pressure to spool turbo.

If there was a turbo grind camshaft in that truck it would probably build boost considerably quicker. That stock cam is probably a small duration and not moving much air to the turbo. Also depends on how much air mass that is on the cold side like size of intercooler and how much piping is in between the turbo outlet and throttle body. If your using 4" charge tube then downsizing to 3" would also cut down turbo lag.

@jberkhimer3 жыл бұрын
@@LawrenceTolman Sometimes the reprogram is necessary, other times it isn't. It's really hit or miss, should be able to install the switch (dash harness is prewired) and test with a test light at the relay point under the hood to see if the signal is coming through or not for activation. Can also add an additional ground to the low beam headlight harnesses which will allow the low beams to stay on with the high beams. Simple to do with a wire tap and the fender braces on the corners.
