I'd be happy with a stock 5.3 ls dropped into my S10. I couldn't imagine having 1000 horsepower. Will be great watching this build!

Swap the 5.3 in dude. My buddy and I put one in his 5 speed 2wd sclb work truck s10. Also put a stage 2 truck cam in. It is a blast.

@@cameronf2758 that is the plan. Just need to find a decent 5.3 I think the wiring would be the only tough part. I want everything to work as it should as far as the gauges. Been looking at current performance wiring.

Good shout out to pat! I've learned a lot from him just in the show and more from him in his own channel. But it would be nice to just have a good weekend with him to try and learn have fun building an engine! I'm the only real mechanic guy in my family and group of friends. So they just ask me to fix things for them. And I don't have anyone to help on my own cars/ trucks. I think my mustang would be done already if I at least had one buddy that could help me.

This is awesome! Love the project and super excited to see you build the trans on your own. My suggestion on the trans is to do it in little chunks and let the peanut gallery tell what you do wrong and it can help teach everyone.

@@bobbyevans7975 Hey Mr. Evans......I may be a bit late to the party but? after seeing your inquiry? I did an internet search for a GM 4L80E Transmission Repair Fixture and there are plenty on the internet. Many fixtures bolt right to a current engine stand and fit transmissions that have service hole bosses that are between 8 3/4" and 9" apart. I'm sure LT and many others will agree.......buying the "cheapest" fixture may not be the best! The last thing you want is your built 4L80 hitting the floor or worse. Surf around and shop for the best deal....just not the cheapest! Hope this helps.

the part LT left out is this is around $9000K in parts with another $3000 in parts minimum. But LT does his builds right and this build it going to be a beast of an engine. It would be awesome to see a NA build to peak performance and then turbo it.

@@LawrenceTolman thanks. Yeah I just finished replacing the entire front steering and suspension (C2500) the week before and the tie rods that morning. I was driving it home from my shop at work when it had a slight stumble and then burst into flames from under the hood. Sat on the edge of a cornfield with my 15 year old daughter and watched it get 100% consumed.

I daily a 2001 3/4 crew cab with an 8.1. Great truck, pulls the boat well and fits 3 babyseats in it no problem. I really enjoy these videos. I'm planning on doing the electric fan upgrade you showed a few months back.

I called it. Raylar big block. Granted I said a 540 and this will be a 547 but I still called it. I like that aftermarket block. I'm now tempted to consider this engine if I ever build my dream 2003 Chevy truck.

Cool build! I'm glad you are the one that grabbed the 8.1L flag and is running with it. Make sure your machine shop attaches the torque plate with the same style fasteners that will be used in final assembly, more times than not I've seen vids of shops using bolts when studs will be used.

Your ugly truck project has inspired me to dabble with my 8100 and stop putting money into my blown l33 blazer extreme. I'm thinking an over driver centrifugal with adjustable cold side waste gate. The new intake from raylar would be the perfect addition for this.

lt,the 80e is so simple it was the first trans i torn apart, the first trans i put in that worked like it should dont be afraid of it. i love building them they are aswsome trans dont be scared just do your research and see through all the B.S and its a stout sim ple trans

Nice to see someone a take a different path for making power. The LS and LT are great blocks, but I've seen so many it's hard to excited about such a build. This build and the Vortec 4200 build are two of the coolest.

I would like to see the outgoing L18 going into the burban. Do a simple bolt-on job to it, cam, port the heads and mill them. Long tubes and mid pipes and then pull ugly truck around with it to events. Leave room on the trailer for an auction fuel tank!

It would be interesting if you show in detail how you measure the compression ratio, such as the actual volume of the head, head gasket thickness and how you calculate the true volume of a domed or dished pisto with valve reliefs

On a side note - I know Pat is big into MEASURING cam timing - but he often will not show what to do if it is off and you do not have an adjustable timing gear. Do you tweak the timing chain by a link or two or what?

yup, I spec'd the S480 with the 1.32 AR which was the biggest they had for this reason, but it may not be large enough as a single.

@@LawrenceTolman Nice good move. It will make power and lots of it! It would be cool to do some data logging comparing the drive pressure vs boost pressure. See where that lands. Its been said if you can stay under 2:1 (drive vs boost pressure) thats a good place to be.
