I was also listening to what sounded like the transmission shifting too soon. Owning an 8.1 myself, I feel the torque on these engines is just not enough to make up for the lack of horsepower. If you can build it to withstand some more rpm and tune the transmission to suit, I think you will definitely have a better chance.

LT I have a question I have a 1999 GMC Yukon and the previous owner installed a body lift but I was wondering how hard would it be to remove it yourself

Easy, unbolt the body mount bolts, lift each location, remove spacer, do this all the way around, check steering shaft as body goes down. Replace bolts that are shorter by the distance of lift taken out. Watch, front and rear bumpers, brake lines on body too.

i saw that, and I think its due to the PCV system. When I let off quickly at a high RPM there is a ton of manifold vacuum and it sucks up some oil vapors from the crank case

Big, cheap parts. Cast pistons, rods, possibly a forged crank. In general, spinning up a big block without some good stout parts things will exit fr the block.

I'm putting an LT1/L83 in my 37 chev pu. IN stock form the truck weighed 3700. The engine alone weighs more than the LT1 and 6L80E so I should be less than 3700 . It's rated at 355 in stock form and I'll not be putting Cats on it and it will have dual exhaust. How do you think it would perform against some of these?

Hi LT. nice vid. Hey I've just purchased a 90 gmc k1500 4x4 ext cab long box. Decent shape. I want to put a 454 with a 4l80e in it, take out all the electronics and use a sniper efi. My question is what modifications will I have to make to beef up the frame/crossmembers to get this done?

nothing really, I put a TBI 454 into my K1500 some years ago, and it bols right into place. You might have to slide the trans crossmember back a little and drill some holes, but thats about it. Oh, and you will likely need a bigger radiator and shroud as well...

@@hongmihnhahn7081 I’m not so sure about that, his body style is heavier in the same configuration, he also has an extended cab vs the square body’s standard cab. The square body also has nothing for a pillars, no air bags, abs, or anything else and I think the frame is heavier duty in the late model vs the square body.

Let’s see a collaboration with Richard Holdener or Sloppy Mechanics and see this stock motor turned up. They both have a lot of experience taking stock engines further than they should go. You keep saying the 8.1l is weak/fragile, but that’s definitely subjective. In stock form it passed the “marine dock” test which is 300hrs at WO throttle and 1000hrs at WO throttle in a truck. Not that many engines pass that test according to the internet 🤷♂️. So it’s REALLY stout; however, with a power adder it’s “weak” I suppose, lol

yes, subjective for sure. at a stock power level I have no doubts an 8.1 could go on forever, but I've seen a ton of piston failures with only a little added power, and at the wheels, I'm +180hp and +191tq over what the stock engine puts out (measured both NA and Turbo on the chassis dyno for an accurate comparison).

Supposedly the pistons cant handle that much more than stock hp numbers. If you google it though according to GM the 8.1 can handle something like 500-550hp and 690 torque

Perhaps, but by manually selecting 2nd on the shifter, I’m at the perfect RPM to take off at 40mph when I cross the start line. Otherwise, it would’ve been in 4th gear when I crossed the start line and then would have wasted a few moments downshifting and then getting the turbo spooled up…
