the 8.1 is one of the most underestimated engines you'll ever come across they have the same rebuild life as the diesels. just an absolute workhorse that can be turned into a fast monster

That E90 was a 335i of some flavour. Definitely modified since it kept up the truck, which is a beast.

That mach 1 at the end. Those are 5.2L very similar to a gt350. Basically the same without the flat plane crank.

I believe it has to do with the internal PCV orifice the 8.1 uses… just a small hole drilled into the bottom of the intake going into the lifter valley

the PCV system in these trucks is a very poor design, its basically just a hole drilled in the bottom of the plenum into the crank case

I always heard the 8.1L's cast crank was the weak link and would snap at 600HP (crank). You are clearly above that! Have you heard the same?

I have heard the same which is why I was so careful with this at first. On 14 psi it made 580whp, but we’re well beyond that now

@@LawrenceTolman exactly! I know the E85 lowers combustion pressure and EGTs dramatically which is great for pistons, but the rods and crank are still getting stressed well over 600hp. Exciting! Thanks for being the modern guinea pig. It may be that the 600hp limit is based on some assumed knowledge from years ago with less data than we have access to today.

it was for sure smoking, and its done that since I turbo'd it some time ago... the PCV setup on the 8.1 is a small hole from the intake to the lifter valley, so the crankcase gets slightly pressurized in boost, then when I let off the gas the intake sucks in all the oil vapor

So a little extra power and this block might hit your 1000hp goal, as it's now north of 920 lolol awesome. Maybe the raylar intake on it for a few runs and bench port the stock one as I'm sure you can do better then others I've seen re welding them lol.. So glad it's apparently not weak piston material. Any weird idle noise would be question to be on the lookout. Be sure to give it a good listen during warm-up, every time but wow.

I have a question Sir, where are you reading boost. For gage and ecm??? if intake were, as i am wandering if the restriction in intake is letting all the air in or not?? if i remember right you have not opened it up??? just wandering.

Both the boost gauge and the map sensor read from the back upper portion of the intake manifold, which is past the restrictive section. I have not messed with the intake manifold at all yet, and I’m sure with some flow improvements horsepower would go up even more

Ariel Atoms are fast but above around 110 they become aerodynamic bricks. the exocet has the same issue. most exo cars do. so with your torque and even being the size of an air craft carrier you coulda reeled him in. and i believe his gearing is super short comparitively too. its nuts how well Ugg rolls out . you and that ram charger were dead even. how cool

yes, usually if the knock sensors detect any knock, it will start to reference toward the low octane table... depending on the other "blend" factors it will be somewhere in the middle
