Great breakdown of Rust lawsuits. It's so much worse than I thought. The fact that there were numerous chances to prevent this happening is horrific. And that crew quit that VERY day due to safety protocols not being followed. I think at first we were told that the script called for Baldwin to fire the gun towards the camera. Obviously that wasn't the case at all. What an awful mess and this poor woman lost her life and it never should have happened! It's heartbreaking. Thx for always breaking down and clearly explaining the details...it's much appreciated!

I appreciate you covering the 'Rust' lawsuits! As someone studying to go into film, my professor (who has been working in the film industry for years) has been keeping us up to date on new information and we've discussed what's been going on in class. As I understand it, the armorer or prop master is the only person who should ever be handling a gun on set, besides an actor handling the gun while shooting a scene. The 1st AD should not have handed the gun to Alec Baldwin, that's not his job. Also, all of these safety violations are extremely troubling because the 1st AD is the main person in charge of safety on set. A safety meeting is supposed to be held at the beginning of the day to inform all cast and crew of anything they should be aware of regarding safety while shooting for the day. Lastly, the fact that the gun was not supposed to be fired at all is one of the most head-spinning aspects of this tragedy.
@justanotherjessica3 жыл бұрын
"Lastly, the fact that the gun was not supposed to be fired at all is one of the most head-spinning aspects of this tragedy." Apparently they had several problems with the gun firing when being removed from a holster. I am lost on why they did not replace the gun when it fired by mistake the first time. Like, that's a HUGE red flag!!!
@michaelkenner32893 жыл бұрын
I studied film over a decade ago. Back then our teachers would use the tragic death of Brandon Lee as the example in our discussions of safety procedure on the set. I'm guessing for the near future this event is now going to be coming up in all the film classes. What strikes me the most from what I learned is that most films will make a sharp distinction between scenes that involve firing a weapon and ones that don't. They're treated very differently. If this scene didn't have the gun being shot it wouldn't have needed pyrotechnics or even blanks to be loaded. Maybe a dummy round that just visually looks like one in the chamber if it's going to visible. Usually you wouldn't even be using a functional gun for scenes like this. Until you need to fire the gun, there's no reason it should be capable of firing.

With no shooting scenes scheduled IMO it was Alec just being "Alec" the rules seem to not apply to him or so he thought. Its just such a terrible tragic incident, I think blaming everyone but Alec is wrong. He shouldn't been given that gun at all, I can imagine him being very persuasive.

40:30 in this case the cylinder doesn't swing open it has a loading port used for checking to see if loaded or load and unload. This is no excuse of time, opening the loading port and spinning the cylinder will quickly show all the chambers. Baldwin is now saying that he didn't pull the trigger, any competent gunsmith can check for this type of malfunction. I doubt any malfunction, it's most likely an inexperienced person practicing a quickdraw and pulling the trigger. This reeks of negligence in so many ways, it's criminal.

Rust: As a psychotherapist for over 30 years I can assure you that not all traumas result in PTSD. And there's such a thing as acute traumatic stress disorder, in which the person suffers significant and disruptive distress after a trauma but it mostly resolves within a month. PTSD can be expected in about 20% of trauma cases. This is important. "Rust" is a highly publicized case and, regardless of the legal arguments, the general public should not be under the impression that just because a person has been exposed to a trauma they should expect to be deeply and chronically traumatized. I was props mistress in my high school theatre and we had a FAKE gun that we painted gold so it could absolutely not be mistaken for a real gun and i was still the only person allowed to touch it except for the actor on stage. and that was because i was the one responsible for it not being perceived as a threat in any way. so the fact that an assistant director(not prop master) was allowed to handle a gun and give it to an actor is beyond me. i highly doubt the assistant director had gun safety training. i still think Baldwin needed to check it before cocking it and firing for absolutely no reason but the whole procedure is so backwards that my high school theatre props crew did it better.

Not excusing all of the other bad behavior but I want to make this point: When an actor has limited access to a prop that they need to be proficient with, they will practice every second they can. I had to wear an antique dress for a show and only had a few rehearsals and the shows to wear it, so I spent a ton of time practicing entering and exiting the dress because I needed to do costume change as quickly as possible. I can imagine Baldwin doing the same with the firearm: the scene didn't call for him to cock and shoot, but in order to build familiarity with limited access, he would be practicing for other scenes. That in no way excuses him for POINTING IT AT SOMEONE. Never. Ever.

Agree agree agree. Just want to add, though, that anyone who doesn't handle guns frequently and regularly is at a noticeable disadvantage. Being acutely aware of where the barrel is pointed at all times, what's in the background of that field, whether your finger is inside the trigger guard or not, always always checking the chambers even if you just saw someone else do it, and presuming lethality rather than safety - these habits are not developed by folks who don't live a "firearms lifestyle." And they need to be habits, especially in situations where the handler's primary focus is on something else, or half a dozen something elses. I suppose that's why the movie industry employs armorers.

For example, over several hours at a family gathering my Mom would ask when something was going to happen. She was exacting and wanted to be in control, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary for her to ask. What we found however was she was repeatedly asking the same questions of multiple people. They are not the same as blanks, which do not have the projectile end and do not look like live rounds. The gun was not supposed to be empty because in the scene the gun would have to be on camera and appear to be loaded. You can't fire a dummy so the contention that the scene did not call for firing the gun sounds consistent. Thr armorer was notoriously inept, immature and irresponsible. The bloods on her hands imo. Its her responsibility to manage the weapons and make sure they're unloaded and safe. Several stations after the gun was loaded should have made followup checks before it was delivered into Baldwin's hands. This leads to Deception to bypass protocol that demands intervening examination of the weapon, (I.E.: did the perp hand the gun directly to the AD telling her it was cold.knowing she was not trained in protocol?) The perpetrator who loaded the live bullet must first be determined. The following chain of custody is critical to any further accusations of intent or negligence.

I am sure they are all under investigation but they are smart enough to stfu. Erica has put herself out there front and center with her middle finger in the air. They are all hiding behind her. Legally tho, not sure what the lawyers can do outside of reminding the public how this woman and her career were funded and that public pressure would work..doesn't seem to be the case. Erica's career was funded on fraud so not sure what else she has to offer after that. Legally, she can play the part of dumb wife. Previous she had stated she knew enough of the law to pass the California bar exam. Her worst enemy is herself.

@Wendy, I know, right! I’m frequently astonished at the stupidity of people commenting about EJ. I understand the housewives universe not liking her as she portrays herself on the BH HW show, but it’s so ridiculous to think spouses are intimately involved with their spouses law firm financials, much less have any legal responsibility for how that accounting is conducted. Crazy how uneducated people are in this day and age.

@spiritofanu31123 жыл бұрын
@@007nadineL some land is for sure. I do not know why except that has been the date for Thanksgiving since 1879 in Canada and that is what I learned in school. It may have more to do with aligning what was then a fairly new country with strong ties to Britain a and France so maybe the holiday is more tied to European harvest celebrations. For sure Aboriginal cultures had their own harvest celebrations at the time. Maybe a combination of many reasons for the date. Just different, not weird.

Look up what George Clooney had to say about this. He really pushed Baldwin over the coals. George was good friends of Brandon Lee who was also killed by a gun on the set of a movie. He talks about safety and stupidity.

Rust: So so so many instances of improper gun safety and so many instances of failure in a row. This could have been stopped at so many points, but there is also the question of why is a trigger squeeze necessary for blocking? Brandishing should have been sufficient.

So many actors, huge actors, said they have never even HEARD of the term “cold gun”, that the daughter of the ammory expert made statements claiming to feel “not be ready” to do a film this big, and it makes no sense that they hired her except to save money. Seeing Alex Baldwin and his wife pull over on the side of the road to have words with paparazzi you could see both of their insane egos, demanding they call the victim by her name but then refusing to take ownership when Alec was the person responsible for a lot of decisions made to ave money. He has been on enough sets and was an adult when this happened on “the crow”, so he should have had enough knowledge to have made better decisions. I find it so insulting the way he almost bragged about spending time with her family, as few days later the husband made the decision to go forward legally after AB.

It's so helpful, for me, to go back and look at these early Rust breakdowns. It brings back how terrible this was for all concerned. It also really shows how big the consequences of Kari Morrissey's misconduct and failure are. Whether Alec would have been found guilty or not is impossible to know, but Morrissey made that possibility Impossible.

As for EJ she put on quite an act of the' tough street savvy chick' when she was just a mere submissive little wifey with Tom's foot on her neck controlling her life, including her Bravo checks! Her where was I to go statement was indicative of just how dependent she was on him & reveals just how insecure she was to go rogue...even his affairs didn't run her off! Makes ya wonder how many other housewives are putting on a well orchestrated 'show' about their lives vs their reality. Smdh

But Congress voted to change the Thankguving so the politician could have a longer a holiday season this took place around the middle of the 1900 So they moved Thanksgiving..Canada never changed
