I grew up in the Caribbean and we were taught lie down, but I have come to realize most educated speakers of English adhere to the rules. I believe one of the reasons why lay down has become acceptable is, we immitate the speech patterns of people in the entertainment industry who have infiltrated our lives. Case in point, the clips you used for examples.

I'd say "from a qualified teacher", only. There are many natives teaching the language and are not qualified to teach. As well as many no native teachers doing an amazing job.

There's a little detail: When you take an exam or test, you gotta make that difference in English and you've got to choose the correct option, Kevin's right, in spoken English they use both verbs interchangeably but when you take a formal exam or test, you have to choose the grammatically correct answer, that's what Kevin didn't mention in the video but anyway his explanation was very helpful and useful. Or maybe, when you take the exam they might accept you use both forms interchangeably but I don't think so, I think that happens only in spoken English.

Amazing! I've always wondered why I have so much trouble remembering "lie lay lain". I know all the other irregular forms, and I have never tried to learn them, I just know them from watching a lot of content in English. Now I know, I just don't hear them used anywhere

In France, many people make mistakes. For example " il faut savoir qu'est-ce-que" instead of "il faut savoir ce que ". Almost everyone makes this horrible mistake ! But I think that even though others don't speak a right way, I can't feel authorized to speak as they do. I'd like to know whether "lay" is really grammatically correct to mean "lie". As a matter of fact, I recently read in a dictionary : "Note: "Lay" is also the past tense of "lie." It is sometimes used incorrectly in the present tense instead of "lie.""

Grammar textbooks still have a long way to go. The distinction between "Lie" and "Lay" is very strict. The same goes for the past and past participle forms of "Lie" and "Lay." You screw them up and you're gonna flunk the all exercise 😂

So, the profusion and preponderance of ignorance regarding lay and lie has now rendered the RULE inoperable? What I would have expected from an English language teacher is a clear definition and explanation of the rule regarding correct grammar, rather than a concession to an incorrect majority assumption. The message that it's okay to use incorrect grammar if lots of other people are doing it is, I would argue, unhelpful. I respect your efforts to educate on the topic of grammar, but with regard to this particular issue, I wish to register a dissenting opinion. Thank you.
