This is great. All my textbooks always focus on what is, but not why. Why would you use a Layer 3 switch? What are its advantages? This video was invaluable for me to sort of conceptualize the sort of thing at a level above memorization.

So in your example… if you wanted each of those 3 vlans to each have WAN access to internet, you wouldn’t need layer 3 switch then… the router/gateway would provide internet to the 3 vlans? Say the server in your example was a printer that you wanted the 3 vlans to be able to print to…. Still ok just with layer 2 switch and router? Or did I miss the lessons?
